Zep song soup!!! Custard pie and Wantong song are clear. Sick again too if you play guitar or have good ear. Nice seed-song for future Physical Graffiti tracks.
@LORDGOAT1976 I have a feeling that this song, merged with other elements (possibly from another Zeppelin song that wasn't released) came together as "The Wanton Song". The Beatles used this method of creating songs in their later years.
Jesus...their outtakes kick more ass than the latest "it" alternative rock band that the stations pump. Just imagine the boys going back to the studio, cleaning this one up, finishing it, playing it live with Jason on drums. These Nickelback lovers would shit their collective pants once they heard the power of the Almighty Zeppelin.

id say so they would of had more hits but the buying public and peoples sense abilities got in the way of hearig some great music from led zeppelin and you know one thing that got in the way of 45s not selling it was peoples thoughts on is the music worth me paying that much1.50 to buy a single or do i use that money for something else more important priorites and choices is why somethings didnt sell much.
i'm a 100% convinced that if these song wouldn't be "Ignored" it would be one hit of led zeppelin!... no doubt.... these song is just amazing... page with his unique riffs... john paul johns with his bass that can make a song look like a fine piece of art... Bonzo (R.I.P) with his drums playing with crazy and unique sense of beats... and robert plant... with that voice he had those days... i would love that these song had the quality of No quarter... Ten Years Gone... The Rover... between others
i thought when they put out coda they put out all there songs they never put on any albums....bowlshit i bet anyone theres like 100 songs that Zep never put out
ur right i heard in 1973 led zeppelin was going to do a 50's cover album and it was gonna contain your so aquare by elvis presley and all the 50's classics done led zeppelin style
omg ahhahahahhahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahah i commented on my own comment not knowing it was me and i told my self that zep were gonna do a classic album
it's unfinished outtakes with marginal sound quality that hasn't been mixed down (too late, now). That's why he doesn't release these tunes. I don't think he's being greedy at all. After he put out that 5+hr DVD in 2005,with a small price tag I might add, I'd say he was very generous. Talk about a love letter to the fans. Besides-you get to hear it on YouTube for free and he's not doing what other artists do, like have all their music pulled for copyright infringement, is he?
I think this is a recorded example of the guys jamming around several musical riffing ideas. No doubt Custard Pie soon gelled from many jam sessions such as this one, as well as Celebration Day. I also hear Hots On For Nowhere in there. This is undoubtedly Page jumping from one free-form riff experiment to another, and Plant just doing some vocal howling before any lyrics were born, in their studio. This is what it would have sounded like to hear them "creating."
idk why everyone thinks this sounds like custard pie. Custard pie is just a standard blues progression. This is a totally different song and is not bluesy at all. Not to mention one of the best zeppelin songs ive ever heard, but definately not related to custard pie.
Sounds a little like a cross between the Wanton Song and Trampled Underfoot. Even with the poor recording quality the Zeppelin brilliance shines through. It's still hard to believe that much talent ended up in a single band. The unbeatable Plant/Page combination backed up by the greatest rhythm section in rock history: John Paul Jones/John Bonham. Add that unique chemistry between the four of them and you have the finest rock band that ever stepped on a stage, the mighty Led Zeppelin.
I've had this for a while, and every time I hear it I think the same thing....what a rhythm section JPJ and Bonzo were. Even a lousy tape recorder still captures their phenomenol chemistry.
i think 2009 will bring more of these old vintage songs, 'cause then i will be done with my final project for my school ,its gonna be old time licks with a touch of new (good) music
with this videos we can understand that led zeppelin was one of the most hard working bands that ever existed..each album had lots of tracks ignored...but amazing tracks too!
Is this from Tangible Vandalism? I got a double album bootleg by that name back in high school in like 87'. All the artwork and what not with killer outtakes form Graffitti. It's probably worth something being vinyl.Love it!
This out-take has elements of Custard Pie, the Wanton Song and Trampled Underfoot, but yet it has it's own identity...I like it, might have been a really good song with polishing.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
For those so oblivious, this is custard pie. I have tons of outtakes from many years, and know for a fact this is an early version of Custard Pie, not a completly different song.
You can't say it's not a completely different song. It certainly has elements that are like Custard Pie, it may have even been developed and changed into Custard Pie.
But if that were the case, it's been changed enough to where it's a different song. The main riff is not the same. The solo is not the same. The guitar tone is way different, while Custard Pie is heavily distorted, this one is pretty clean. The lyrics didn't sound like the same lyrics. Its an entirely different song.
This has a few riffs from the Celebration song, but this one should have been mastered into a complete song cause it's good, see boys & girls if Zep made 1 more album like I think they should, this would be a great remake.
I think im gonna take a shit, take a shower, make a sandwich...then i think i might take a nap...then im going to play guitar and go to bed. thats what im going to do...what are you going to do?
i had a bootleg cd back in 93' that had about 13 or 14 outtakes that zeppelin did. that could have been released around houses of the holy, physical era, this was one of those songs. another i can remember was a number called midwestern mamma, jenning farm blues, sunshine woman, and a different version of kashmir actually called "driving through kashmir" sadly the disc was stolen from my car. all that i remember it was call "making of a dinosaur" by blue kangaroo label any one see it around??
I think because of the slight similarities in Custard Pie and the Wanton song they didn't release it on Physical Graffiti. That's why the song Houses Of The Holy was not released on the album Houses Of The Holy because of the slight similarities between that song and Dancing Days. However, they should have released it on another album for sure.
