  • I am only in the 8th grade but, I personally would rather listen to this kind of swing/big band music than just about everything else.

  • @maximumjaklive

I honestly agree. Same grade and situation. I don't love any music more than this kind of swing stuff. I also am in a jazz band for my school. Two of them actually. I love playing this kind of music!

  • hey, what's that little red smudge on the side of the like bar?

  • Holy cow, some people really need to learn to think a little before typing things out here. Little brown poop might sound funny in your own head, or with some friends who are used to your humor, but here? This song is great, and you should not be so negative about it.

  • According to the movie Glenn never liked this song but it was a favorite of his wife.

  • @cameronhjh so did I lol

  • i had to learn this on keyboard at school haha:)

  • I love Glenn Miller! I wasn't born til 1953, but Mom and Dad played big band music all the time. I love all of it!

  • Wow that's one helluva trumpet solo.........

  • Einfach klasse - dieser Bigband-Sound !

  • Wow, I didn't know this song could be done any better than the original. I love it

  • @FoldingCrown get out of here and never come back

  • i love glenn miller he makes greAT MUSIC

  • This is the BEST tribute band to Glenn Miller i've ever seen!!!!!!

  • Big Band reminds me of my Gramps. He would only let me listen to mine on the stereo if I listened to his. Some how I hardly ever got to hear mine before my Mom got there.

  • This is much better than Britney Spears

  • What a big , big sound love it.

  • 685,476 views and I've seen this so much I'm sure that 600,000 of them were me! Love this and thanks for posting!

  • Thanks to my dad for turning me on to this music. I'm so lucky to have him around. 90 years old and still going strong. WWII Veteran. I'm gonna play this music at my upcoming 50th bday party and dance with my pops. Love you dad! May you live to 100!

  • @mecruzn that's so beautiful :.) the sweetest thing I have ever read on YouTube! bless you both xxx

  • What kind of Sax does the Man at 1:07 play? I Think It Sounds Amazing!

  • @TheDansihStation The tenor saxophone my friend(:

  • the thing that moves me most about this type of music is that it is what veterans of the second world war were listening to when they were my age; i can't tell you how many memoirs I've read that talk about this kind of music cheering them up at USO shows or just on the radio

  • @wissepsv Get lost and stay there, moron!

  • @wissepsv you queer tit.......

  • @tallpaul521 I'm sorry that the fact that there is a woman in this band makes you uncomfortable, but now a days, positions are not based on gender, they are based on skill.

  • @tallpaul521 I'm sure that she had to audition to get into this GM Orchestra, and I'm sure that their were many, many male bari sax auditioning, but she must have been the best.

  • A gal in the GM Orchestra ??? What the hell! Is the big band biz that hard up?

  • @tallpaul521 No man, she CAN play!

  • Comment removed

  • 素敵!

  • NIGGA SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @FoldingCrown You are NOWHERE man. Get lost and stay there.

  • @FoldingCrown

I thought that was Will Smith

  • Glenn Miller as he really sounded. Nice moderate tempo, not all upbeat and rushed, all origonial arraingment, no added bullshit, GREAT SOUND!

  • 999999999999999999999x better than justin bieber

  • @Vitally14 What the fuck does Justin Bieber have to do with any of this? He is not even close to the quality and sophistication of this music. Justin Bieber is total and complete bullshit!

  • @caveman735 amen brother. its just that i am so exposed to that mainstream shit alllll day long. so its good to get it out

  • @Vitally14 COOL MAN!

  • I must say, I really dislike most of Miller's music, but I am heartened by how much more "punchy" this group sounds (led by Gary Tole) rather than Larry O'Brien. I heard Larry's group many times and the brass were wimpy playing into the stands and holding back as they did. I really hate fu-fu brass!! This group has quite a bit more vigor and overall strength--which is good, and modestly in keeping with the original sound. The arrangement was by Bill Finegan--and was straightforwarad for him.

  • @callmeBe Glenn Miller was the best big band ever! If you don't like his"most of his music" man you're out of tune.

  • @caveman735 I'm glad you like Miller: it's a good place to start.!! However, if you begin to follow his arrangers and original sidemen, you would find that many of them moved on to far more interesting places (and more musical). If you are truly interested, I have a several posts by musicians who played at some time with Miller and moved on in their growth. Check under my site for Tex Beneke and "Rosita' and "Cyclops" by Ray McKinley. Note: I am NOT trying to spam my site. Many regards!

  • @callmeBe Thanks for the info.

  • @callmeBe Thanks

  • @callmeBe Good place to start? How about Benny Goodman, Woody Herman, Harry James, Tommy or Jimmy Dorsey, Cab Calloway, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Gene Krupa, Louis Bellson, Buddy Rich, Doc Severenson, The list goes on and on. And by the way, Terry Miller, Glenn's brother ,taught music at one of the school's I attended as a child.

  • @callmeBe Oh yea, I forgot to mention, Glenn Miller Played with Benny Goodman and other band's before he formed his own.

  • @callmeBe OH yea, I forgot to mention Glenn Miller did not write most of the music he played.

  • @caveman735 You bet, he started off as an arranger for Ray Noble in the late 1920's. He was a modest arranger at best, and certainly had none of the abilities of the arrangers he was to later hire (George Williams, Jerry Gray, Bill Finegan, etc) when he had his own group. At the moment I have several of the original arrangements that were copywrited for his groups sitting on top of my piano. George Williams became the mainstay writer for Boyd Raeburn, and Finegan for Tommy Dorsey 1950's.

  • @callmeBe Who are you to judge Glenn Miller as a "modest arrainger at best?" Glenn Miller is probabaly the best known big band leader of them all, has sold million's of recording's , had a biographical movie made about him, (starring James Stewert as Glenn Miller, June Allison as his Wife, and was an "A" class movie. Glenn also had a few movie's where he played himself. Have you done any of these? If so I'd like to know. You seem to be a frustrated "know it all" music critic, with no talent.

  • @caveman735 You are confusing arranging with band leading. They are not the same. In fact, they arn't even close. ie: George Williams who wrote some of the more interesting work for Miller (I have one of his original charts in front of me right now) was a highly capable arranger, who tried to break out on his own, but never made it. (He is best know for his writing with Boyd Raeburn--a name you should check out). Check out my site for credentials--critics would not do score study!! I do!!

  • @callmeBe Bottom line: Glenn Miller was the best, both at band leading and arrainging.

  • @callmeBe Oh yea, Glenn Miller was a great Trombone player too!

  • @callmeBe Band leading and arrainging aren't even close? Man, you are on a different planet. Most band leaders do ther own arraingment's, but not always. Band leading and arrainging go hand in hand.

  • @callmeBe What about Quincy Jones? He writes, arrainges, and leads his band,(along with playing with them occaisionally.) Doc Severeronson arrainges many tunes and leads his band. Ray Charles writes, arrainges, leads and preformes in his band. Band leading and arrainging are almost one and the same, but not alway's. Band leader's either play their own tunes,(and arraingments) or their own arraingments of other peoples tunes, or other people's arraingments of other people's tunes.

  • @caveman735 Quincy is beyond fantastic, now you're talking. I didn't know Doc wrote, but I have friends who played for him years ago--and he is incredibly well liked as a leader. Myself, I have written some big band stuff, mostly for Army Bands (I went to the School of Music where Doc went--they kicked him out for playing taps 2 8va higher than written!), and even a little for Rex Allen when he led the Gene Krupa Big Band. But I mostly stick to concert band and orchestra. Yes, Quincy is ++!!

  • @callmeBe Never claimed Doc wrote. I think we are on the same page though. Everybody is entiltled to their opinion and personal preferences. Interesting tid bit about Doc misbehaving. I think Glenn was the best. If you disagree, that's O.K., you are entitled. If everybody agreed about everything, what a boring world this would be. I wish" Big Band" would become mainstream and popular again, it is so under apreaciated. There is nothing like the sound of a great big band playing, NOTHING!

  • @caveman735 I started off trying to get a hold of every Glenn Miller score I could (easier said than done) to study up on the rudiments of big band writing. Then I slowly morphed into Barnett and Kenton as my skills developed. But, it all goes back to the basics--and I would certainly include Miller's groups in that (not to take away from the early black bands like Henderson and Lunceford). Yes, I very much wish tin pan alley was back, kids played horns vs guitars, and thebig bands were back

  • @callmeBe Oh yea, if he was a "modest arrainger at best", why are millions of people still listening to his music 70 year's after his death? Because he was one of the best arrainger's, that's why. He was the best.

  • @caveman735 I'm glad you feel so strongly about his music, I guess. However, you should spend some time with some biographies about him--then you would understand more. You would learn that he was more a "front man" than a player, arranger, whatever. He hired incredibly skilled personnel to work magic for him, and with luck (it was actually a clarinet player who could not play tenor sax who came up with the clarinet lead sound) and timing, and playing for the dancers, he came out on top.

  • i love the trumpetsolo and i love this band.....SUPER...

  • I Was Born 60 Years too Late

  • @Chito3509

    yep!

  • i have to sing this song for chorus and it gets stuck in my head all the time

  • yes :-( i too

  • Great post! I love Glenn's music.

  • I love this trombone solo! I played the written solo for my senior year high school jazz band showcase. Wonderful music, wonderful artists. Don't see it around much these days, but it's there.

  • JAZZ SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Das ist das lieblingslied Nelson von den Simpsons

  • As we know, Glenn volunteered to fight with the SUPER GENERATION in 1941 WW2. That's world War two for the younger folks. He died in an unexplained plane crash over the English Channell in heavy fog. His supurb music will live on forever. I highly suggest younger folks watch "The Glenn Miller Story" as it deals with family, war, peace, music and just plain old common sense and patriotism.

  • he died writing it

  • WHAT A SONG !!!!

  • @MrAxSAP I agree, she is a cutie girl, and she plays well. Apparently the instrument she plays is a baritone sax, not a bass as I inadvertently described it a few weeks ago ... oops. she is still a killer blonde tho' ...

  • for those that call it REAL music, all things involving instruments/vocals is music and (it kills me to say so) but that includes (ugh...) justin bieber, lil' wayne, and of course this.

  • @ACupcakekitty ungrateful nazi jew bitch shut your mouth

  • @superterrifichappy those that use such terms are in denial of such truths stated in content

  • @ACupcakekitty ashkenazi trolls are bottom-dwelling fucking garbage

  • @superterrifichappy And you are the lowest of the low, tell me can you form a sentence without cursing once? have you tried? is it even possible for your emaciated brain to comprehend language skills? just TRY to form a positive comment to others opinions, state it kindly without vilifying the person. (i guarantee you looked up emaciated, didn't you?) live up to your name, be super, terrific, and happy.

  • @ACupcakekitty Trolling is disgusting and deserves nothing but contempt and disrespect. I fucking hate you, grow up.

  • @superterrifichappy Troll won. :)

  • @robin17171 wow .. did you see the part about growing up ? please child

  • @superterrifichappy Pull the child card? Adults are just as immature as children. And it is I that acts as a child? If so at least I can control my tongue and not use crude, harsh language.

  • @robin17171 my god, you stick up for someone who trolls the internet with a cute little 'troll won smiley face' and act like you've got class .. GROW THE FUCK UP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you faggots are the cancer of the world and deserve to be shat on .. cursing you shameless people is the least i could do .. derrrrrrrrr justin beiber derrrrrrrrrrrrr im a fucking troll derrrrrrrrrrrr fucking derrrrrrrrrrrr

  • @superterrifichappy I'm not trolling, it annoys the crap out of me. I also despise Justin Beiber. By you posting this comment it shows the whole world how much you need to grow up. I did nothing that is immature or anything similar. Sorry if the truth hurts.

  • @superterrifichappy I also did not stick up for anybody. You attacked me, I defended myself.

  • @robin17171 how..fucking..pathetic..you..people..are..makemesick DERRRRRRRR I FUCKING TROLL DERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR IM AN ashkeNAZI JEW AND I TROLL DERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR BECAUSE MY SUPER ANCESTORS WERE SLAVES I GET TO ACT LIKE A FAGGOT DERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR I CARE ONLY FOR MY KIND DERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR FUCKING DERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

  • @superterrifichappy You look like a Troll to me. Guess it takes one to know one.

  • @superterrifichappy Man, go see a shrink!

  • outstanding song, its sad that kids these days dont apprieciate true music, its always "Rap" or "hip hop" they dont understand what "Real" music is. and thats coming from a 15 year old boy

  • i am 14 and i love this music! i grew up with it now im going to carry it on when i have kids! :)

  • You hear people say "Those were the days" or "Those were the good times" but we often think that what we play today is far better than the "ancient" music that "old" people listened to. IT'S NOT TRUE! I'm 14 and play the French horn and this music is most likely the sweetest music I may ever hear. Long live jazz, good times, and whatever beat makes you want to get on your feet...

  • and justin beiber

  • fact is today u have more access to great music than anytime in history

  • He could write music like no one else! You have to see the movie to appreciate Glen. "The Glenn Miller Story" with Jimmy Stewart.

  • I think this is also the song in the movie WEDDING CRASHERS where heremy is dancing with gloria at the reception..

  • I have to sing this song for choir...

  • Can anyone point me to some other old, good swing music?

  • Love the switch to black and white every now and then.

  • All i have to say is... thumbs up if your soul was born in the 30s.

  • @javie199 ..l..

  • @javie199 this one was from the 40's but i'll thumb you up anyway.

  • @javie199

    nope

    sixties

  • It's time people realize again what real music is about. You can't listen to the music of today and let it totally control your emotions, mind and body, you just hear some computer-edited shit. I HATE IT, WHY ARE PEOPLE SO FRIVOLOUS NOWADAYS?! While typing this, I hear Selena Gomez nagging on the radio. It's definitely making me ill.

  • @jemoeduhrrrr , it is my opinion that people shouldn't be so righteous about the music they like. I am a Jazz/big band fan. The brass moves me in a way no other music can. But, music itself is an expression that hits people in different forms. Some like country, disco,r&b, Ska, Newfie, etc. I don't think there is a genre that can be labeled "real music." Be moved by what moves you, let others do the same eh? Just saying...cheers!

  • @vivalareason Sorry, you are right, I just had to let it all out of myself for a second ;) I just think music is not ment to be a money maker. And definitely, it's not only swing that's 'the real and only good music', I also love bebop. Haha no just joking, there are very much genres that are great too. I have to apologize for what I said, it was too sharp. But, aside, wouldn't it be great if this music revives? How about a new, fantastic, gigantic, spectacular swing revival?:D

  • @MrMalibublues I wouldn't mind that at all!

  • No way

Is this really the glenn miller orchestra in one piece?

  • The saxophone girl is cute

  • i wish Youtube would set these videos up where you could pick and choose to download for a DVD with a small fee per clip or a fee for say 12 clips. That would offset the cost of this website and make some very good music available that is difficult to find these days!

  • Nice trombone solo!!

  • I have a, 34 year old son who thinks this music is cool when he comes over he always says lets dance mom. He can't believe how good this music was even back then. Pretty cool, huh? LadyProwler

  • Mardi Gras, here I come!

  • 22 people apparently don't have ears.

  • Me and my Grandma Nan used to dance to all the big band music

  • Muito boa a musica D+

very good music to D +

  • i went to go see a glenn miller orchestra last night the conductor at the start of this vid was the one at the concert tommy

  • thumbs up if you're a bassist and listen to this for the intro.

  • IM 14 i used to play the trumpet and i regret quiting im into all music except pop and i hate this decade of music the 21st century music is crap.

  • @Potatoerapper regret quitting? Start again, it's never too late! I started playing bass as a freshie and i'm probably going to major in it.. (ima junior nao.)

  • This was Mary Miller's favorite song, so Glenn tweaked it to fit his style.

  • 22 people suck dead donkey dicks thru rotten socks.

  • @spahjrp That was so stupid, but OMG LMAO!!!

  • this makes me happy :)

  • 22 people broke the little brown jug

  • the turmbone solo sucked becuase it's not the original

  • Great to see his legacy lives on even today!! I grew up listening to his music while flying with my Dad in the 60s and still remember the smell of his cherry pipe tabbacco and these tunes !!

  • Am learning the guitar chords for this :)

  • 22 people don't know what music is

  • The best part about this kind of music is that there isn't any electronic pitch bending like there is with today's pop music. The closest thing you'll get to pitch bending here, are the mutes in the trombones, and the closest thing you'll get to electronic is the occasional electric guitar, like what showed up in Air Mail Special.

  • Very good performance, but Glenn Miller hits me best with the sound of the crackling of a record player. :-)

  • If you wish to hear this kind of music today...two places in CA are the finest. Of all places Disneyland every saturday night rotates 5 different bands. Top notch. In Burbank, right next to the equestrian Center there is a mexican Rest. and once a week most of the year they play there. The female Sax on right is in that band.

  • GLENN MILLER DESERVES VEVO TOO ! <3

  • <<<<<<<<<<<<23 yrs old and chillin. thanks

  • this is fantastic...glenn would be happy to hear this :D

  • Holy God, they're about to have a concert here in Ceske Budejovice, CZ, in January 2011. I've already bought a ticket. I can't wait to see it and hear it on my own eyes / ears!

  • @davidviktora

See you there David! First we have a long trip to go from Holland...

  • @hlokken Just be careful while driving, the conditions on the roads here are not good; they're icy and somewhere even under thick layer of snow. Nevertheless, one must suffer a bit for a good music :-).

  • with this clarity you can see why this music stod out

  • According to the movie Glenn never cared for this song but it was his wifes favorite

  • A woman in the Glenn Miller Band?! YAY FOR GIRL POWER! :D

  • Excellent. It's nice to see them playing it so close to the original version.

  • What's the drummer's name?

  • Glenn Miller was the pioneer of the wonderful sound which is big band, thank you this is such joy. He continues to live on and always will he was brilliant.

  • Fabulous. I was born way too late.

  • @1ndabag I feel the same way, but would we have been drinking at the Brown Derby with Bogie or dieing on Iwo?

  • @1ndabag as was I- but we realize greatness.

  • @1ndabag No you weren't - you've got the best of both worlds! Enjoy every day! :-)

  • @1ndabag Yes, me too- Glenn Miller wrote some great stuff.

  • @1ndabag me too way way to late.

  • @1ndabag I like Bethoven but I don' wish I was born 400 years ago

  • @1ndabag know you were not you havve you tube and Winton Marsalis:)

  • @1ndabag @1ndabag Hi, I was not born too late, I experienced it all live as a boy, when GI's came to free us (I'm 79 now). But I miss this music. At least one radio station should keep the tradition of the greatest era of American music .Pity, nobody cares. Everyone wants to make fast, every day less worth dollars by rapping, of course not only so. I prognosticate: everyone will be rapping and wiping his ass with the overflooded US dollars. I hope our dear president will rap wih us.

  • I was just asking my teacher for the song's name today. now i'm glad to know :D

  • I remember my Dad playing this music throughout my childhood. Glen Miller and Benny Goodman were my fav. We use to kid my Dad it was Cartoon Music at the time since most of the classic cartoons were made during this time. Love all kinds of music. This type of music brings back fond memories. Thanks guys.

  • OMG!!! a bieber comment on Glen Miller music video!!!! WTF is wrong with you people?

  • @Rusvi1 no i think it was a glenn miller moment for beiber

  • Why would people dislike this? You have no love in music or Glenn Miller if you don't...

  • kann ich spielen auf tenorhorn
