Andy was definitely one of the most skilled guitar players of the shoegaze bands. Not just strumming chords through pedals, but ripping out lead stuff...
i liked coldplay for a brief moment when i thought they were an off shoot of ride then i found out they are a rip off of RIDE. those sneaky bastards almost got away with it if it was'nt for that meddling internet. i will stare at my shoes until ride reunite and then, well, i guess i will continue to stare at my shoes but i'll be staring at my shoes at a ride concert.
I'm starting to think coldplay are just a mediocre covers band, I don't care what anyone says the whole tempo and structure of this song is identical to 'in my place' just watered down.
Familiar with Ride, less so w Coldplay, but did go listen to "in my place" to see what the fuss was about. Only the opening of the Coldplay song reminds me of "Dreams Burn Down". The opening, granted, sounds borderline identical. But the rest of the song sounds very different to me.
I like Coldplay too but personally I prefer the hazy swirly shoegazey goodness of Ride. This song (and Ride's entire "Today Forever" EP) are among my favorite shoegaze songs ever.
well you're pretty much insane. Ferment and Chrome are two landmark albums and two of the best of the genre. Catherine Wheel might not have been darlings in the press but they had more depth than Ride IMO. and Rob Dickinson was a better vocalist.
true that, best Ride song ever. thanks to who ever uploaded this, brings back lots of memories. fuck would have loved to have been at this gig damn it
I dont know, Im kindof glad that grunge went mainstream instead, everything the mainstream media touches turns to shit anyway...not much of a loss for grunge. ALthough conversely, I wish that these guys were still together, and of course Love Spirals Downward.
Exactly, the fact that this song came out in 1990 sort of gives it away :) Chris Martin is a thief and he's owned up to nicking this one. He can't write songs without borrowing from superior bands!
what about paralysed.me and my mate used to get stoned as a lord and whack that on . wow!our other mates weren't too happy, they would screem out for fucking carl cox!!!each to their own.
I was at this show - I think Levitation, a House of Love side project, opened, if I'm correct (also saw sugarcubes that month and MBV with Jesus&Mary chain)
Just received a new copy of Going Blank Again this morning... forgot just how could this band were! Saw them in Poole in 1992 and prob just the best gig I have ever been too! Just wish they had got more recognition at the time!
Ride have been my favourite band since 1990. They still are I had this video (live @ Brixton 92) stolen from me in 94 and haven't been able to find it since, so thank you so much for posting the vids up. This is the first time I've seen them in years!!

Have to agree to disagree, none of those bands are as good as ride except for mbv, early verve. Wouldn't rate Catherine Wheel at all

Same thing my brother-in-law said when I was playing this in my car a while back. Only "Fall" was released in 1990.
At least Chris Martin has taste-- he could be ripping off Roxette.
