  • Stewart won at the Nurburgring in 68', 71' and 73 and won in fog & rain in 68', so he must have been trying at some point! It is a shame about these great circuits though, todays F1 sucks in comparison!

  • This is grand prix racing as it should be. The Nurburgring with its bumbs and hedges was magnificinet. Ickx outclassed stewart here in 69. Ickx would also have outclassed Stewart in 73 if Ickx had had the right tires on his McLaren. Stewarts diatribes against animal circuits like Spa, Nurbrugring and Mosport are totally mentally retarded. As Max Mosley says Stewart is a certified simpelton. Stewart was too calculating too ever really try on the Nurburgring. Stewart destroyed Grand Prix.

  • look at the safety Barriors.

  • THIS is Grand Prix racing. I know there is a series that holds races in different countries and calls those "Grand Prix" races for "Formula One" these days, but really, it's not at all the same. Wish I had been around when the real thing was current...

  • Très beau video et belles prises de vue de la TV allemande! ickx etait imbattable ce jour-là!

  • 1:52 why are these guy standing so close to the track??

  • I think great drivers are great drivers across disciplines, only most of the great tracks are gone. Pity. Fantastic video tho!

  • Ow what a wonderful video! Amazing, uncomparable age, i'm glad to see it!

  • Thanks a MILLION for sharing this wonderful GEM of a film. BRAVO !!!!!!

NASCAR drivers are girly men sissy compared to these REAL HERO DRIVERS.... It's not even close .....Watching this incredible action is the BEST ....

The person who shared this by taking the time to post ... Has GREAT taste in video....

you will receive good karma for sharing with the rest of us... Well DONE ... BRAVO !

  • @tejastiger61

Take a seat and rest, "American".

Let's enjoy this lovable F1 classic WITHOUT STEREOTYPING NASCAR. SHEESH!

  • OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMG!!! sudshleife + nordshleife??????

  • One wrong move here and you're probably dead! Those drivers were incredibly brave.

  • Amazing. F1 has really lost it soul now. Its all about advertising. Pity a track like this cant be made safe. I am sure Sir Jackie could do it.

  • I wonder if any F1 track today has bumps like the one at 3:47. No, probably not.

  • amazing video!

  • bbc broadcasted races live in the 70's?

  • Is their anything that sounds as good as Ford DFV Cosworth running wide open in a grand prix car roaring by in top gear? For example, the drive by at Schwedenkreuz at 1:22 to about1:36. Beautiful. The DFV just sang like no other racing engine I've ever heard.

  • @piobairesicago I agree, the DFV is just unforgettable

  • Great footage, Nordschleife rules!

  • what a glorious era

  • @piobairesicago Well said!

  • @piobairesicago

    well we will never know

But still today there are great racers on the Green Hell, driving with courage and talent, like Marcel Tiemann, Timo Bernhard, Dirk Adorf, Uwe Alzen, Dirk and Jörg Müller, Emanuelle Collard, Tom Coronell...and the great Hans Joachim Stuck, who maybe possibly could still run a 69 F1 car at under 8 minute at the 69 track. He was running a 7:16 in 1974 F1 and he still does under 9 minutes at the longer 24 hour version of today in an Audi R8 LMS GT3 car.

  • These guys were like fighter pilots

  • Who crashed at the Karussell?? - PS - great footage.

  • not shure but I think it`s Piers Courage

  • @koolstup Piers Courage

  • derapage carnage!

  • there isn't any armco barriers on this track either

  • from 8:52 to 9:12 (left to right) jackie stewart (2nd place) jacky ickx (winner) and bruce mclaren (3rd place)

  • I was at the Ring last month. Racing today isn't nearly the same ass it was back then. Almost suicidal conditons...just imagine an tyre failure!

Teh only thing you can do, to get same feeling as the drivers had, is if you take your Kart, put in a Hayabusa Engine und accelerate down a narrow path near a field of weed.

  • Amazing!!!!

  • I wasn't even born yet! All that momentum, man-handling... Five stars my friend!

  • Thanks for posting this. I've only recently become interested in F1 and the history is incredible! Especially Nurburgring!

  • Absolutly Rare! Great!!

  • simply fantastic

  • compared to todays 20 cars running around in the boring micky mouse circuits, i am glad to have seen this race live. still enjoy my own movie (coloured.), i made from practice and race , today. so i was quite surprised to watch such fine pictures here at yputube. thanks

  • Any chance of getting it posted? I'm sure all of us watching this great video would love to see it.

  • @marcosfastback Have you got a chance to post your own movie on utube? Would be great! Perhaps as a video response to this one?

  • @marcosfastback how old are u sir ?

  • Those guys are really shifting! Fearless! Damn you had to be, not just good back then, but brilliant! These guys were that & more! Great post!! Nice one!

  • v.good quality vid. thax for posting!

  • Good ol'days. I would like to see them live, really.

  • In the ditch there's Courage with his BT26

  • Great job from german tv for this live 1969 coverage . The circuit was 22 km long, so it was a true challenge to film it for television.

  • Colour TV started in Europe in 1967. However it took until the mid 1970s for all TV breaidcasts to be in colour.

  • The guy with the car in the ditch -- Rodriguez? Siffert? Courage?

  • Most people were still using black and white T.V. up till the mid 1970s, and rental because they were notoriously unreliable. Colour was a luxury.

  • There where occasionally 'in colour' broadcasts, but it was early days!

  • shame there's no colour, the scenery is terrific. I drove around there earlier this year and found the track an incredible challenge, it would be so easy to crash if you go off! I can only compare it to driving on public roads because it's unlike any other track I've visited!

  • Sir.JYS has a funny moment at the end

  • Terrifying footage! you can see why its nicknamed the green hell or the widow factory.

  • Amazing to see, thanks for putting it on. Brave racers, seeing those crashes is really alarming.

  • Wonderful footage !!

Where on earth did you find it ?!?!
