If she is or was jailed, it was the Catholic authorities who jailed her; the Catholics hate the Protestants, but they hate Protestant evangelicals even more and throughout history the Catholics have killed and burned and imprisoned hundreds of thousands of non-Catholic Christians who did not believe in the Pope's edicts but believed only in the Word of God.

Mehret like many jailed folks, is a Pentecoste..Pentecoastals are not favored in Eritrea b/c they supposely interfere with the orthodox, sunni, catholics, and protestants..they also dont support eritrean independence..dis is wat many ppl ab eritrea tell me

She spent most of her detention in inhuman and degrading conditions inside a metal shipping container which was used as a prison cell. The authorities reportedly tortured her many times to make her recant her faith.

Eritrea is not a Muslim state and the authorities who arrested her were more than likely not Muslim. by the way, she has been released for some time now. her jailing was not religiously motivated, but more politically
