  • That's a neat little house, but no thanks on the $2K incinerating toilet. A homebuilt Humanure toilet, a portable toilet, or even a regular toilet running into a 55 gallon drum with a single field line and flushing with greywater is a lot cheaper and doesn't rely on fuel, electricity or paper liners.

  • LOL! You've gotta be educated to use the toilet. Is that a 2 or 4 year degree? I've got a bachelors in shitology!

  • Monopoly card Board Walk at 2:26 I wasn't sure it was it until I paused.

  • for anyone who thought that having an education was not worthwhile; you can now add "incinerating toilet operator" to your résumé.

  • HELLS YA. i'd live in that for a starter home.... buy a piece of vacant land cheap...i'd take away the silly toilet, and the trailer, and plop it on a cinder block foundation. house is done!

  • I checked out the website for this company, out of curiosity. These little dwelling spaces are $20,000 - $50,000. You would be better off building your own, or speaking to a contractor about building a small boat-style room on a trailer. Just my opinion.

  • @stiemogo I figured these would be under 20 grand... yeah, that is nuts.

  • hopefully that toilet has a good warranty

  • thay need to change that them music

  • His comment about the cost of a septic tank does seem outrageously high, unless you remember his location. Keep this in mind, things don't cost the same everywhere. In some parts of California, a building permit can cost $30k, and take years to get.

  • remove the fake fireplace install a spiral staircase there to a loft to sleep in. seperate the electric stove from the sink before someone gets killed. dump that $2000 toilet that uses the little paper McDonalds employee hats and put a regular toilet in & just pipe it to an out house so you got 2 if that dont work for ya just put a cement block carport below & have the bowl flush right in the back of your pickup and when you go out just drop the gate. now if that aint green i dont know what is.

  • Very frustrating; interesting topics/subjects but terrible camera work. What a shame. Not watching anymore of these no matter how interesting the subject line looks- too disappointing.

  • I want to take a dump in his space toilet.

  • He said this can go down the freeway, it has a pink slip. So you can travel with this just like a tiny house? Or do you need to pay for a special permit to move it?

  • $50,000 septic tank. Complete septic system including tank and lateral lines is more in the vicinity of $2000. He's quite the salesman.

  • @srvafool Yeah, my friends that live in Northern CA, the bay area of all places, in Boulder Creek... they paid a contractor under 5 grand to set one up. Anyone who pays 50 grand is smoking some good stuff.

  • Seems like the perfect solution to hurricane prone areas! Hurricane on the way? Just hook up your house and take a little vacation WITH your house.

  • this is the right way of living small...doesnt have to be very small :D

  • Where do you sleep?

  • Oh HELL NO!!!

  • Isn't a "little house on a trailer" just another mobile home? What you said at the begining makes no sense.

  • there called shot gun houses here in the south

  • @therebellady04 Or 'shotgun shack' in a more pejorative vernacular.

  • Haha prolly costs as much as a regular full sized single wide. Isn't that counterproductive to the little house movement?

  • I think the technology for the toilet is awesome, but it is aesthetically unpleasing. Does it use water? If so, might I suggest looking into Japanese washlette toilets. I'd also recommend taking your shoes off before entering the house. It keeps the floors much cleaner. This house is much bigger than most Japanese apartment. I'd like to import one over here. Possible?

  • @japanascope The toilet doesn't use water. The idea is that this is an option for people who aren't connected to sewage/septic. Though the house can be connected and then you could use a water toilet. For purchase info you'd have to contact the builder (info in the original story-- link above). Though my guess is it would be too expensive to export one of these to Japan.

  • can these homes be put in a mobil home park?

  • mayybe the mobil home pop out designs would work nicely for adding even more living space

  • some of the tiny houses have nicer features than this house. this is not all that nice, imo. lots of corners are cut on features - toilet and kitchen.

  • This isn't new. Why is it in the new uploads?

  • love it! All the space I would need except finding a place to park it

  • Which model is the white one, classic old house charm one/ 19th Century Rural farm house style? I have a apprx 10 X 18 car port in back our home. I need a place for my Mom when she comes to our place fro Baja, Mexico/Loreto. She rents places there, but I want her here when we have a child.

  • @djkenny Do you mean the house that I focus on in this video. That one is what he uses as his office. If you want to see more his website is littlehouseonthetrailer . com

  • @kirstendirksen Hi Kirsten. Yes, I was wondering which model that one is?

  • @djkenny I just checked out his website and I believe he calls this one the Pierce Point Cottage. 240 sq ft combination home office/ guest house (compact kitchen, full size shower bath, incinerating toilet).

  • @kirstendirksen Oh. thanks. Yes, that is the one. I could not find plans or the model made to order on the site.?

  • @kirstendirksen I could not find the plans for the Pierce Point, or the costs for one built to order. I was also interested in knowing what the heating system is in the room...Cadet, or maybe a small electric of some type? Is the place insulated to a certain level above, below and in the walls? Thanks!

  • @djkenny An adult living in a doll house.plain stupidity! Claustrophobia any one?

Shack whacky in one day.! Don't expect guests or a guest unless you want and elbow in the belly or things swept off the wall with each graceful turn.!

No more roam than a coffin. Yech!! keep the dollhouse and burning feces, At least when you die they can put handles on the side and you save money on a coffin.

  • $100> per square foot or better? Really? Um kay. thx.

  • Sinks...so is he hooked up to water? and where does the water that does down the sink go? Just into the ground? Is that all legal?

  • that's gotta be a stinky damn toilet

  • Id rather build my own home from scratch and pay 50k to get the septic tank. I donno how to use that toliet. Reminds me of the 3 sea shells from demilision man. :D

  • Where does he sleep?

  • @ngot74 He uses this as an office so he didn't put in a bed, but you could either loft one in the living room or use a couch/bed option.

  • "$50,000 for a septic tank"? Why and where?

  • I want to be your boy friend. Oh wait I am old enough to be your father, UH grand father, UH! OH! maybe Great Grandfather!!!

You seem to be on a right track. You say the land is to expensive where your are so your mobile concept is good.

Evin is you are a Gypsy, a home base is good.

    Keep thinking young lady!!

    GROG

    holladay at ymail dot com

  • this would be great for an aging parent

  • @MrsReverendDr Good point. Stephen actually sells one of his designs as a "caregiver cottage" for people who move in to the backyard of someone who needs live-in care. But the opposite could work as well.. i.e. your parent could move behind your home in one of these for some extra help.

  • I am really interested in living in that type of house. I'm only 18 lol

  • @Cool07Star keep those aspirations alive before you collect too much stuff for it ever to be possible. don't make my mistake

  • i like this but i also dislike it

  • ♥ I like that it's 12ft wide ...

    ~Debbie:)

  • I like the size and that it moves easily. Cost of trailer?, tires of the trailer . don't they have to be moved, or is the trailer off the ground? Toilette better option = clean self composting. Add solar (DIY) for the roof, or on the ground, *septic does NOT cost $50k. I paid $1,500 for system for 640 sq ft small house I built in 1998 . More windows - even higher on the wall., if you need wall space - for airflow. Q.:Water heater. AC? Sleep where? Boat stuff too clunky

  • Most codes I know of say you have to hook up to city sewer or septic for you gray water use too. The smoking toilet isn't going to get you by that.

  • Who ever said you can't have a sink and electric stove together was taking all the fun out of getting electrocuted! Bad idea as far as I'm concerned and I can't imagine how that meets code? I hope it has a GFCI!

  • 16x16 to me is the perfect sized room connect 2 of them and it is almost a grand hall. That was my sisters home made of cypress it had a room that size and it was the place to go very spacious. I would go buy another mobile home but we suffered damage post Katrina had to redo the siding and roof so we have $10K into a trailer worth nothing on the market so we are going to stay here until it falls apart. We have made repairs and it keeps serving us. RENT DEBT FREE is the way to go if you can.

  • im gay and this house would be a great getaway for me and my lover Frank to just relax and be nude without having to worry about the neighbors seeing us having sex. thank you for posting.

  • @mopardodge00 too much info dude... nobody wants to hear about people buying a house to have sex in.

  • @sacraficialangel7 why not, thats what its for?

  • @mopardodge00 lol. fair enough. most people just aren't quite as straightforward as you, and it takes people by surprise.

Personally, I'd build one of these myself to live in full time. Also, why don't you wander around nude anyway? Anyone who complains about you being nude in your own place has to have been looking in the first place to see.

  • my first house was a tumbleweed

  • Overpriced... $2000.00 for a toilet for a shruken house is dumb... For what you want for one, a person could build there own for way less...

  • Next time edit the scenes of the Videographer. Its not professional to have a person with camera in the mirror. Otherwise I love the 12ft wide space.

  • Once i saw no bathtub i lost ALL interest!!! Im reasonable but how can people live without some baths every month!

  • @oceansoflovewi dude you can always build your own with a bathtub fitted.

  • really awesome way to live.. but theres no way in hell im crapping in something that doesent use water and a pipe to take my crap far far away.. not vented into my garden.

  • It looks a lot bigger on the inside!

  • @Inb4ko about 1,000 or maby 800

  • @Inb4ko I put the prices in an earlier comment above.

  • Wow in the south a septic would cost you about $3500 with a good perc. Before buying a lot make sure you have a good perc test and enough usable land. And for you lake folks stay 50 feet from surface water with your system.

  • those incinolets smell terrible when they are burning the shit tho

  • What happens the water from the shower and sink anybody???

  • @Kontaktt They likely have to go get and store their own water. It's not as complicated as it sounds, and they sell tanks of various sizes. Most easily capable of fitting on the back of a truck. After that, it's all about filling the home's internal tank(s). So once or twice a week you'd have to go get water, but there are pumps everywhere for this purpose. Getting rid of used water is the easiest part. It's probably as simple as a small pipe or hose delivering the used water away from the home.

  • @Fredrock1982 Thanks you!

  • @Kontaktt - wondered to - guess it depends on the location. camping places let you pump it out LOL

  • @Kontaktt surely it just drains into the earth below?

  • Where's the bedroom?

  • @Taaurrus Stephen has it set up as his office right now. If it were to be used as a home, the bedroom would be the main room. It would be a studio.

  • @kirstendirksen - oh okay. Thanks.

  • @kirstendirksen I could see creating a kind of loft above the kitchen/bathroom, too, to keep the living space/office intact, it'd involve reworking the roof, but with such a small space, it likely would be pretty feasible :)

  • I could see a us parks dept putting one of these on a mountain top~! cool

  • Cute or what

  • cool!!!

  • But if you let me design and plan your home, I believe that I can do a better job than your house

  • nice house

  • I'm not educated enough to use the toilet.

  • @HeyYashamaru You press a button and it burns your shit, what do you not understand about that?

  • @HeyYashamaru neither am I lol

  • Thalia, here are the prices sent to me by Stephen from the Little House on a Trailer:

    10 x 12 $12,000

    Cedar House $17,500

    Caregiver $25,000

    Art Space $40,000

    Office $50,000

  • @kirstendirksen Little house on a trailer! LOL!

  • BUT AT HOW MUTCH ARE YOU SELLING THEM? I DONT SEE PRICES ANYWHERE

  • lol at @0:32, i c the camerawoman

  • where u sleep

  • @raider54DJ He has it set up as an office so there's no bed. You'd have to do it differently if it were to be your home. Perhaps a bed that doubles as a couch, or a lofted bed. Obviously I'm not an interior designer, but people have done much more with less space.

  • Give me a flat screen, xbox, pc, food and sumtin to drink and im good to go

  • I think a small house like this would actually be more comforting to people than some big "normal" sized house. Small spaces can make a person feel safe and snug, like living in a warm cocoon. I could see this type of housing for many people, especially those who have been homeless and have felt vulnerable in big, unprotected spaces.

  • I could buy a three thousand dollar truck, a thousand dollor truck camper, and put on two solar pannels to charge two batteries, then put in a on demand water heater, then put in a propane incinerating toilet, and add a sand filter and carbon filter for grey water run off, and live cheeper than most will tell you.

  • it's a Obama house,

(for the people, not him), lol.

  • I thought the same thing on the shower and lav as pedery2k. Septic systems in Ohio start at $12k. Not $3500 or $50k. I paid $36k for a 1700 sq. Ft. House that's already hooked to sewage. WTF.

  • @ThePolarisdog In California new septic tank regulations went into effect in 2010 that now make installation more expensive. I've read that costs range from 10K to 40K for installation. The higher figure is if your soils testing is terrible. Otherwise, the lower figure is an estimated minimum for all required testing, engineering, design fees, permit and inspection fees, and the cost of hiring a licensed contractor.

  • @kirstendirksen California sucks

  • @000Winter000 Grey water is the waste water from sink drains. In most communitiies, it is unlawful to dump it in/on the ground for disposal. I guess toothpaste is now considered a bio hazard. Adding grey water to the incinerating toilet is inefficient use of the energy required to operate it.

  • 20x12=240 (240 square feet)

  • love that house

when my kids are grown il be buyng one

  • peace from mississippi.

  • really love it!

  • I have plans to build a small home and am considering it to be 12 feet (inside) This house looks narrower than that to me. Just looking at the guy standing against the wall at 2:25. I am guessing he's maybe 6 ft. Doesn't seem you could lay him down and have six feet left to other wall. His head would be hitting the chair. Is this really 12 ft wide and my perspective is that way off? If it is, I am building mine at least 14ft wide!

  • @bellalush It's 12 feet wide and 20 feet deep (240 square feet), Perhaps he measured from the exterior walls so inside the measurements could be a bit smaller.

  • @bellalush lol, Yeah they measure these things from the outside but you really dont have that much living space. I seen a cabin for sale and they said it was a 30 ft long,..the built the pourch on to the house adding fen feet. Like a mobile home, the tounge is included in the footage for some reason I really dont get it.

  • One unanswered question remains - with electric toilet and no sewer connection, how is the grey water disposed? Does one route it into the toilet for incineration?

  • @pedery2k I probably phrased that poorly. You don't need any septic/sewage hookup for the incinerating toilet, but for any other greywater (kitchen, bathroom sink) you would need to either hookup to sewage or find a way to use the greywater in a garden.

  • A whole lot of misleading and wrong info need permit for 12 wide load, septic systems installed run about $3500.00 not $50,000.00, need large truck, escorts, permits, and permit to set up tiny home, no mention of that. A travel trailer with 5 slideouts will run about the same price= move with a HD pickup, about 14' wide set up, financing, resale able, alot nicer, has holding tanks, more advantages by a long shot. RV co will set up & move rv, port o let co will serve your sewage dumping problem

  • the toliet is just wrong. a tank does not cost $50,000.00 to dig and build.

  • where he sleep? :S

  • he had me right up to "incinerating toilet."

  • that bathroom is really nice, and it is important to have pride in a nice bathroom. :)

  • i would love one but at least 500sq ft with everything though like a room livingroom bathroom and i wouldnt mind this is too small

  • As an experienced Tiny Home resident, I agree with everything in this video. Right now I'm in 8x26 Ft, and a 12 foot width would allow me to place furniture in ways that accomodate 2 people (right now it works best for just me). I'm definitely bookmarking this one for future reference!

  • this is defenatly more to liking then the tiny house what seem like they are like large closets the price on these needs to become much less considering you can buy a small trailer home for 20k that would be larger then this

  • this is defenatly more to liking then the tiny house what seem like they are like large closets the price on these needs to become much less considering you can buy a small trailer home for 20k that would be larged then this

  • omg!! 50k for this one?? thats really expensive...i mean whats the advantage of buying one of these verses buying a mobile home for that price.. i thought it would be around 10k-15k but not that much..

  • What particular design is this house that you are showing in this video? Or in other words, how can anyone order it or get information about it, other than referencing this video?

  • @Jharen1231 Stephen Marshall is the designer (the one I interviewed in the video) and he sells custom-made little houses from his company in Petaluma, CA-- Little House on the Trailer (you can google it for his info). I also have a couple other videos profiling him, the Tiny House Movement and his other designs.

  • how much?

  • @nathuwjohn This one is $50,000, but it's his most expensive. He also sells one that is just 10 by 12 (or 120 sq ft) for $12,000.

I just asked Stephen for more info. Here are the prices he just sent me:

    10 x 12 $12,000

    Cedar House $17,500

    Caregiver $25,000

    Art Space $40,000

    Office $50,000

  • @kirstendirksen Thanks Kirsten!

  • where's the bedroom??

  • @watkins35146 This one is built as an office. Since they're custom-made I believe they could build one with a loft for the bed.

  • i want one.
