  • So Vinterulf, based off your previous comments you would be okay if say, an African or Chinaman started worshiping the Old Gods?

  • Damn I need to expand my library I want to read a lot of those

  • Thanks for the heads up on The Road to Hel in PDF.

Any thoughts on the Eddas being written by a Christian (Snorri)?

  • I really like Simek's "Dictionary", but the edition I have (the same as yours) has such a terrible binding, it's falling apart!

  • First, Asatru is not a white supremist religion. Supremicy is a ridiculous ideology that is not religious in nature. that's the only lip service i'll give it.

Second, Americans did not "hijack it" nor do Icelanders have copyright on a religous pantheon of gods that all of Northern Europe (go figure, where most Americans' heritage is found) worshipped.

Thirdly, when I visited The Felag in Iceland in 2000, no one seemed to have that viewpoint about us American visitors. We even kept in touch.

  • Well, the Skinheads around the city of Pittsburgh who claim Asatru might disagree with you. They argue something quite different. They claim ownership of the tradition, feel it belongs only to whites of their particular political persuasion and ethnic background, feel mud people need not apply, and above all else feel that race traitors (people who believe as you do) should be exterminated and then punished by the Gods.

  • @yanikv

LMAO. And this would the be the first time white supremisit's stole a religion's symbols and ideas? No, I think not. One only needs to remember the swastika(sacred to the east and natives) to know that nazis, neo or not, have always been dirty thieves with no integrity of their own. Asatru existed long before those fucktards even thought of existing. It is NOT a religion of white supremacy in the slightest. Some jackass just decided that would fit their ideals and took whatever wanted.

  • @yanikv Great. Now send that sentiment (that idea) to a wider audience. Do your best to permit its propagation, and you will protect the very best traditions of your faith. Fail, and you will watch that faith become perverted (and owned by those who would harm it indefinitely).

Good luck. You will probably need it because White supremacists are typically angry and active.

  • @yanikv

Angry and active...you are right. Just like like little children fighting in a school yard. Lol. Fits perfect. I really feel sorry for those who take part in hate groups. I wonder what has happened to them that makes them hate an entire race for no reason. It is a sad state of affairs. You reap what you sow, as everyone knows. Be prepared to eat the bitter fruit you have grown. Karma is not a kind mistress and there is much interest on the debt such hateful actions incur.

  • I even remember listening, while at a local bar, to a screed roughly an hour long on how the "jews" actually concocted the myth of jesus to turn the white man away from their real Gods. They were saying that they used this creationist myth to place the jewish people within a cultural framework of supremacy (jesus being a jew), and that it was an effective manner in which to control the ignorant white masses. They argued Asatru was the antidote to this jewish perversion of their spirituality.

  • @Vinterulf "a religous pantheon of gods that all of Northern Europe worshipped"

I feel the need to correct you on that, not all of Northern Europe was Germanic/ Norse. The Finns and Sami (who are not only not Germanic but not even Indo-European) among others had their own pantheons of deities and religion very distinct and unrelated to that of their Germanic neighbors.

  • @kauko15

Nitpicker. His point to that idiot still stands just the same.

  • Heilsa Mike, Would you be able to focus a video on Eddu saga? Im curious to see some other interpretations.

  • For an in depth study on the cultures, customs, and an interesting comparative study, of Eddic & Vedic similarities. The One-eyed God: Odin and the (Indo-) Germanic Männerbünde (Journal of Indo-European Studies Monograph No. 36)(Paperback) by Priscilla K Kershaw ISBN-10: 0941694747 ISBN-13: 9780941694742 Glossary. THE EYE IN THE WELL:, PART I. HERJANN: THE EINHERIAR:, PART II. THE INDO-EUROPEAN MÄNNERBUND: *TEUTÁ AND *KORYOS:, PART III. THE VRÁTYAS: WARRIOR-BRAHMINS:

  • Overall, a good recommendation on books on the indigenous folkways of the peoples of Northern Europe. I would also recommend History of the Danes books I-IX P.Fisher trans., by H.R. Ellis-Davidson. Also, Teutonic Mythology & Investigations into Germanic Mythology Vol. II Pt. 1 & 2, by Viktor Rydberg, are good reads.

  • I ALSO recommend for 'roots' is the Roman Tacitus' "Germania" an outsider look at the people then. Emphasis needs to be made on reading the Edda's (Poetic & Prose Edda)!!

  • Your sound seems to be out of synch with the video.

  • Also, since you brought up de Benoist, I wondered if you have an opinion on Julius Evola. I'm greatly hesitant towards him because of his politics, his racism and his occultism, but I've heard him referenced by a number of Heathens and Rodnovers. I noticed you used 'Revolt Against the Moden World' as one of your references for your article on the metaphysics of ritual. From a strictly spiritual standpoint, do you think his work is of any value to Heathens or is it better avoided altogether?

  • I'm sorry, it appears the first part of my comment didn't post:

Thanks a lot for this Mike, I'm sure this will keep us busy for quite some time.

If you have a minute, I wanted to ask how proficient you are in Old Norse, or other older German languages. I'm learning Icelandic, and I wondered how much greater it offers to read the Lore in the original language

  • It definately helps to study Old Norse to one capacity or another, even if you're "messing around" with a Old Norse dictionary because you can see the words yourself and see how the different translators choose what words, etc. Generally, most don't translate well into English and instead of just one word, the meaning is better defined using a combo of several english words to get the right concept.

  • Actually, contrary to popular thought, Evola wasn't the kind of abashed racist people seem to think him to be. Most people's opionions about him are from one single book a particular author wrote. I have pretty much all of Evola's works. Get the Inner Traditions versions as they go into Evolas real beliefs, etc. He was actually barred from lecturing in Germany after the Nazis realized his references to being "Aryan" were actually in a spiritual aspect rather than a literal physical one.

  • Also, to continue: They even set up a group of people to "counter write" against his writings. He also spent a majority of time under house arrest while in Italy because although he embraced Facism at first, he soon recanted and began writing for Anti-Fascist magazines and newspapers.

On his work, I thinks some of his ideas work well with heathenry, others do not. (i.e. his ideas of strict dualism are not aligned. His idea of spiritual world and material having impact on each other is good)

  • I'm sure a lot of racialist types will be beside themselves when it is realized that Evola thought of the physical makeup of the person was the "least important aspect compared to the spiritual soul". and that his usage of the words "Aryan" and the like was more in tune with his Eastern philosophy leanings in using them in the Hindu aspect of being "noble in soul". His writings "against" Judaism were not intended to be against the literal people but rather the spiritual direction of judaism.

  • A great write up with references in the Inner Traditions "Revolt Against the Modern World" ISBN#0-89281-506-X the section "A Short Introduction to Julius Evola" references Anti-0Fascist magazines and his own papers and writings that were generally only made available during the time period. One has to remember that back then, an author of a book did not expect his stuff to be read by such a large audience as now. Authors would have thought the reader would've known of earlier defining works.

  • Wow! I have a lot of the books you showed in this video. Anything by Hilda Ellis Roderick Davidson is excellent. Nigel Pennick also focusses on the Anglo Saxon runes fairly extensively. What do you think of Gundarsson's work? I had an extra copy of "Teutonic Religion" besides my own, but I gave it to a heathen friend. I know I have a link to an uploaded version of The Road To Hel somewhere.

  • I think your audio is kind off...

  • Ya, it happened in the upload... 2 seconds off...just enough to make it noticeable....sucks.
