Judy Kuhn is a fantastic example of why musical theater singers should learn good vocal production as well as dance/acting.... I can't stand musical theater these days....
The singing from both these women is lovely. When did singing a duet become all about one-up-manship. I was moved by the BOTH of their singing and their emotion.
I just think that these two in a duet sing so perfectly together. How beautifuly presented! Niether one was above the other, I would love for them to get back together again to wow me again!!!!!
Has there ever been a singer like Kuhn - with the best (and) the high soprano......if only someone would find her something to do, she's so vastly underused in the theater and the recording studio.....
I don't think Sissel was overshadowed in this performance. She's too good to be overshadowed imho lol! There are moments when you can hear Sissel's powerful voice floating to the surface. It's just that more emphasis is given to the character of Florence (Judy Kuhn) instead of Svetlana (Sissel). Honestly, I prefer this type of performance as compared to duets where singers try to outdo each other by belting or worse, shouting.
@KateBushDepot what i meant was that I've never seen her in a secondary role--only in solo or in duets with singers like Espen Lind or male opera singers. I just discovered her about a year ago and haven't seen much from her early period. She is my favorite female singer of all time at this point--her tone, her range and most of all her interpretation of the song-phrasing,nuance,control--she is the ultimate artist..
@KateBushDepot At this stage of her career, Judy may have had better vocal skills than Sissel, but Sissel's voice is already more beautiful. In any event, it's a very beautiful duet.
Simply Beautiful! The two complement one another so well. Thank you for posting this song, duet, I love it so well. If you have any more of this concert, I am so interested!!!!!
Judy's voice is so clear, you can hear every word she sings...I hate it when you can't understand what singer is saying

@NotABoyScoutNYC Actually, there has been another singer like Judy ... her name is Sissel.
Both of them get far less recognition than they deserve.

probably one of the last times sissel was overshadowed in any degree by another singer--she has developed into such a spectacular performer.

Elaine Paige is a fine singer, but I've never really "gotten" her. She doesn't give me goosebumps like Judy.
