On his performance of this record, he was actually late to the concert, its why the intro is a little longer than usual. he ran straight on stage and began to sing. it was spectacular!
BD originally had this in the middle of his act, but it always got a standing ovation and he was worried that it disturbed the flow of the act, so he moved it to the beginning. Reviewers said they had never seen a performer in Las Vegas get a standing ovation for the first number and the last. Wow.
Bobby Darin received the GRAMMY LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD TONIGHT! His son Dodd Darin gave a beautiful speech on his behalf. Bobby was a versatile, multitalented genius!
Barbra sang this Jule Styne gem first of all in the Broadway musical "Funny Girl" in 1964 and again in the movie version in 1968. Bobby Darin recorded this for his 1966 album "In A Broadway Bag" and performed it live here in 1967. It was also part of his live repetoire when he performed in London this same year, and can be found on the album "Something Special" in this production.
@DjAfterburner Its also his own interpretation of the song, so it might be just fast enough. But, yes, I think it is a bit faster than the original version of the song.
Good version of this song...........I actually love this guy when he attempted quietish songs like "Was there a call for me".........I know you 22 Billion people out there will disagree as they've attempted his version of "Mack the knife" once the karaoke machine gets switched on......but he puts a lot of emotion and soul into the quiet stuff !!!!!
Hey joeyflor, Here I Am! You can find the original version of PARADE on Darin's album "In A Broadway Bag" and other compilation CDs released on the Atlantic label. Not hard to find on Amazon either. Good luck
