My brother (the crazy one) put on his wet suit and a hood to protect your face from biting insects went to the lot next door cut the limb holding a nest of YJs and introduced the YellowJackets to a nest of Bald Faced Hornets..all hell broke loose, I laughed my ass off, they were now on the same limb and it was one big swarm from hell.
I know they are around LittleRock Arkansas, lots of them..I hate the Yellow Jackets but I love the Bald Faced Hornets for the bugs they eat..In all my years I have only been stung once it was my fault for throwing rocks at a nest and they grab up the Yellowjackets too. I have found that if they know your sent and know you are no danger to them they will hold there sting. I have had them dive onto my arm to catch a Horse flies.
Actually when you see hornet nest, you better called the 911 for help, as i am a bee sample collector, a Bald-faced hornet have a special Sting, the stings is in zig-zag manner so it can cut a hole in a thick plastic, clothes even a jacket. And its ass have a muscles that can shoot out venom and immobilize a ants or insect or rats. But human will not get immobilize ofcuz but the venom can damage your Liver, Lung, Heart and Kidney Failure if the victim did not get antidote within 4 hours.
haha reminds me of my friend shane we seen one of those nests at our high school in a tree about the same size lil smaller and he stuck his finger in the hole where they come out haha fucking hilarious never got stung either but after there must of been 5-600 of them sworming around there nest.
your are right about the teritorial part... i killed hit a nest about that siaze and one chased me for about a mile when he finally got off of me i was out of breath from running so hard....they hurt
oh contrar bigjarded. while up north camping last year my sister in law was walking in front of a bald face hornet nest and she was stung 3 times.. she was at least 20 ft away from it.. The black and white hornets are the most aggressive here in upstate NY
they both are non aggressive, the correct term is territorial, they will both leave you alone if you dont bother their nests and they both wont bother you even if your standing right next to it, as long as you dont show aggression towards them
You couldn't be more wrong. Apparently you haven't encountered the baldfaced hornet. They don't care if you are a bug or a human. You may not even see their nest, as it can be hidden in shrubs, etc., but they will see you as a treat to their nest.
Ive never had a problem with yellow jackets but bald face hornets are mean little bastards, I was 10 feet from a nest once and about got swarmed ( wasnt messing with them either)
This is some interesting lighting it looks like a cross between night and day. Was the nest built in an area of thick woods?
I plan on dealing with this species a lot this summer with my seasonal side job. Going to finally live one of my daredevil dreams of vacuuming out nests. Take a look at some of my vids I posted of wasps last 2008 season. More to come!!

Or in a scenario where 4 to 5 Bald Faced Hornet flown to your house, immediately shut off all windows and switch on your Air-conditional
Why?
1) as to prevent if nearby Hornets fly into the air conditional and build nest.
2) If There is an outbreak of hornet attacking pedestrian on the street your are protected
And when there is really hornet inside the house, use a Insecticide, make sure no hornet is gonna survived, if they survived its your doom day

@XxFederalprisonerxX Sorry but you sound Oriental, and its hilarious!
"make sure no hornet gonna survive, if they survive its your doomsday."
My Thai roommate is terrified of insects of any kind and sounds just
like you. One hornet can be slapped down no problem, and please
let us know when you see hornets attacking pedestrains! Make VIDEO!

Hornets are very non-aggressive unlike yellow jackets.
Hornet=predator (of other bugs)
Yellow jacket=scavenger. Thus the difference in behavior. If you leave their nest alone hornets will never bother you.
