Its suprising to see that people, even if they are naked and being herded like cattle to certain death, did not do anything at all to try and fight back. I'd think I'd rather die resisting than complying to Nazi thugs.
to those cocksuckers that said this never happenned, ther still digging bone,ya basterds should have been there cuz my hungarian grandparents were, german sacks of vile
I never understood why the Jews going to their certain deaths (such as depicted here - not in the trains en route to the death camps) did'nt put up a fight? At least some would maybe escape and take a few of these einsatzgruppen scum with them.
Why does not the condemned man fight back when he is led to his execution via electric chair, hanging, firing squad etc etc? Even when it is lawful and "right"?
Sometimes you simply have to accept death as it comes.
@FredDude27 The condemmed man was sentenced to die for committing a crime. The Jews were condemmed to die just because they were Jews. Why should innocent people accept death just because someone hated them enough to want them dead? The fighters of the Warsaw Ghetto did fight back even though they were hopelessly outnumbered, as did the Jews in the Sobibor death camp.
The truth of this is that makes me a little outrage about the death of the Jews (men, women and children who came into the world recently). All are killed just for being Jews. They are forced to remove their clothes to be shot completely naked. I feel completely sad ...
Blobel and sonderkommando 1005 only exhumed and burned a small percentage of exection sites in the former USSR. Thousands of mass graves remain with their human contents intact. A Roman Catholic priest wrote on the subject after years of dedicated research, investigation and interviews. Amazing work. Take that in the butt deniers.
This is well worth the time to look up all parts of the movie series, even Stephen Spielberg said Dan Curtis did the best to realistically portray the horrors of the Holocaust. It was a miracle from the Most High that it ever came to network TV.
I watched this mini series when I was about 12, with my family. To this day, scenes like this stay with me...Nearly a decade later. I will probably never watch the series again, because it horrifies me how monstrous humans are capable of being, as well as how defenseless. I am glad, however, that my parents thought it important to show my siblings and I this film and its predecessor... Perhaps I will muster the courage share it with my children one day.
The most notorious and the best documented of these massacres took place on September 29–30, 1941, wherein 33,771 Jews were killed in a single operation.
This movie does not mention that well over 100,000 victims were murdered at Babi Yar --a fraction of which were Jews. Nazi Germans also killed Ukrainians patriots, many Red Army prisoners, many of which were Ukrainians, Gypsies and others there. The Red Army (in which Ukrainians were very well represented) evacuated many Jews ahead of the Nazi German advance.
There is a duty to honestly portray history --not just an edited version.
@jpnarino Unfortunately you're right. The final solution practically repeated itself in Bosnia 50 yrs later and Cambodia 30 yrs later. Such a damn shame.
OH geesh - are you complaining that this movie should have sympathized with Ukrainians during WW2? The reality is that Ukrainians were among the Nazis' biggest recruits of murderers. While many innocent Ukrainians were killed, many saw the Germany invasion as away to kill off the Russians and get revenge. The Ukrainians were the Croatians of the USSR doing this time.
Many Ukrainians, including those who were Red Army soldiers taken prisoner by the German Nazis, were murdered by the German Nazis at Babi Yar.
Before the German Nazis came, Babi Yar was used as a killing field by Russia's genocidal Bolsheviks. Many Ukrainians were murdered there by Russia's Bolsheviks, for two decades before WWII broke out.
@Bosirant clip omits to mention this historical fact.
Russia's genocidal Bolsheviks. Two decades before WWII yes it does. This mini series was about WWII and the events of WWII and the holocaust. It beings with Pearl Harbor not the historical facts of two decades before WWII nor what happened at Babi Yar before this massacre
@susie101fm No. Ukrainians, many of whom were Red Army soldiers taken prisoners, as well as Ukrainian patriots, and opponents to Nazi German occupation, were murdered at Babi Yar by Nazi Germans, after they occupied Kiev.

@Bosirant That dosent make this disaster any smaller--------if the reds used the same grounds or not dosent matter..... In ww2 the Germans was not victims, the rest of the world was...They where not liberaters, but occupiers, not saveoirs from genoicide but the masterminds behind it...The N.S was a sick disaster, the most destructive idea this world has ever seen-------ask any German, they fell ashamed about the crimes of their Opas, and I understand that..Germans hate Hitler more then we do..
This incredible mini-series pulled no punches. Amazing that a network broadcast could be so courageous without falling into maudlin soap opera as Hollywood so often does depicting the Holocaust.
Take the sequence on Babi Yar, in just a few minutes it depicts graphically and straightforwardly the shattering horror of what happened. It shows large crowds of people, it shows the Ukrainian collaborators helping the Nazis. Kudos to Dan Curtis for having the courage to produce this series!
