  • hi chaps dont know if any 1 can help me here had a celica t sport for a week got it into lift for the first time last night started it up this morning and can here a clicking sound coming from engine not a loud constant click more like a quiet intermittent click but only on idle and not when reved took it out for a spin and performance is no different could it be a faulty hydraulic lifter?

  • 3 SG-e Beams 300 hp? Yes if it tune..the WTCC spec is only 285 HP..

  • Comment removed

  • Hondas are just popular so its all you see at the track. sr20ve motors shit on k20s and 4age blacktops shit on b16s and stay with gsr swapped civics. Stock for stock and chassis for chassis of course.

  • Wow these honda fans lacks intellect! 3sg-e BEAMS engine naturally aspirated engine produce well over 300hp plus! That's from 2.0 litre engine! Toyota rocks

  • The VVTL-i + Swiss Bemani treatment (supercharger...) can do 300+ hp with reliability and longevity, which is wonderful for a car like Corolla, Celica, Matrix etc. I can only recommend this Yamaha-designed engine. Max RPM 7,900-8,600 - power at 7,800 - torque at 6,800 (I actually saw a completely stock 2ZZ-GE produce peak torque at just over 7,000 RPM). It is the first all-aluminum 4CYL by Toyota - light and powerful = GREAT! It is a really good alternative to the WONDERFUL Honda engines.

  • genuine toyota motor oil is made by whom? and is it synthetic?

  • ummm... my grandmas corolla has this engine XD

  • @rweiii1~ no it doesnt!

Your grandmas corolla has the 1ZZ. This is the CELICA, with the 2ZZ!

  • @marek0086 I was wrong, but so are you. it has VVI-T

  • @rweiii1~ you mean VVT-i.

    What was I wrong about?!

  • @marek0086 Yes, i mean the VVT-I.... you said my grandmas car had the 1ZZ

  • @rweiii1~ your grandmas Corolla DOES have the 1ZZ!!

  • @disco466 the nissan vct is not the same as vvtl-i, vct there is no valve lift or duration involved. thats like comparing apples to oranges.

  • wooow wgat's the point i got nissan vct

  • @lifestorm17 the trans from a 1zz-fe and a 2zz-ge both are interchangeable...BUT the gearing is much different the gears are taller in the 2zz-ge transmission to take advantage of that engines top end performance, the 1zz-fe transmission is geared for low end torque. the the corolla S 1zz-fe and the celica gt 1zz-fe are not the same....the injectors are larger in the celicas 1zz-fe as well as the valve lobes...also the ECU is more aggressive.

  • these comments are full of fail. the 2zz-ge is a 1.8L engine NOT 2.0 the tranny from a 1zz-fe bolts right up to a 2zz-ge. this engine was NOT based on any honda motor. It was designed and built by Yamaha....know what your talking about before you post.

  • @joshottotv Do they seriously just bolt together? I mean, I know they are somewhat similar, but I would have thought that they would be somewhat different. I have an 04' Corolla S with a 1zz-fe motor that has 150K on it, and I have been wondering if the Celica motors would work. I knew the XRS's had the 2zz-ge's, but I thought they had the transmission from the Celica as well.

I'm just getting into Toyotas, used to be a Focus SVT / N. Am. Spec Focus ST guy

  • Why's everyone just comparing power?

If the Celica really had a 2.0 vvtli it'll whoop CTRs and ITRs ass hands down.

Why? Cos it's about 100kg lighter than both cars man, at 1170.

It's not just power, it's power to weight.

The K20A1 ++ and above (not the k20 plain version, that one's a normal 4cyl 2.0 engine) has 10 percent more cc yes, but the celica is also about 10 percent lighter.

Power to weight's about the same. Thereafter it depends on how aggresively the car's modded.

  • Just bought one in Dublin. VVTL-i. Ya man had no clue what car he was selling me and picked it up for less than 6k. Its a 2001 tiptronic with less than 55000 mile on the clock. BARGIN!!!!! It goes like fuck!!!!!!

  • b18c......1.8 liter 200 horsepower......or better yet f20c 2.0 liter 237 horespower

  • You can get a vvtl-i motor from ebay in a really good price! Good luck! ;)

  • anyone know where i can get a vvtl-i motor? i'm looking to put a swap from 1zzfe 98 corolla to vvtl-i. i've always been amazed by the motor and love my corolla, so i figure i'll just get a motor swap, even if it is expensive.

  • look around for a wrecked xrs (corolla or matrix), use it as a donor car.

the 2zz-ge is useless when mated with the original tranny from 1zz (even if it's 5spd manual). the 2zz's power band is too narrow. the 6spd tranny is needed

it requires quite a bit modification, so it's not something a home mechanic can do

  • 666 KiLLA!!

  • I love the gauges and everything about vvtl-i. I also love toyota for their reliability, fuel economy and overall value. But let's face it: toyotas are becoming increasingly ugly. If I was to buy a new car tomorow i would definetely buy a mitsubishi mivec or honda i-vtec over the toyota vvtl-i, not because the two first are better, but only because toyota cars are so unspirited. I drove the camry v6 with tiptronic and it just does'nt feel as good as the altima or the accord.

  • The point is that,in my opinion the vvtl-i engine is a more improved engine than the v-tec and so it's better, since it was based on a v-tec motor... Despite it produces more hp for its displacement(1.800cc --->192hp) than the Honda Civic type-r which produces 201hp(now) from 2.000cc...I can tell you than in every speed and every dituation my car can outrun a Civic Type-r.Of course I am always talking for OEM cars.Mine now has an Apexi ECU,so it's much faster! ;)

  • @In666Vein

Yes...also Ur Corolla used OEM Supercharge/Compressor..so it not really match compare to Type-r which is NA....But Ur engine compare to K20A is nothing...The Fact is K20A is powerfull and winning many races..

  • @In666Vein You're forgetting about the B18c5 Type R engine. 1.8l, 197 HP.

  • VVTL-i > i-VTEC

  • I-VTEC>VTEC>VVTL-I.Honda has had 200hp 1.8ltrs way before Toyota. And is gonna stay on top. They copied us.

  • Us? Do you work for Honda's design team?

  • You kno what I meant.

  • Don't get me wrong, I respect Honda for the fact that they made a hell of an NA motor. But it only dominates the circuit. Toyota builds their motors for all-around tuning, and 3 of the most memorable examples are the A, M, and JZ series.

  • You are a dumb idi*t fanboi. 2ZZ-GE is far more advanced than the old VTEC. It was the first engine to put both intake/exhaust valve lift together VVT-i. Old VTEC only had intake/exhaust cam lift and no VVT-i.

The 2ZZ-GE was developed outperform all the old VTEC engines. People have been extracting 240 - 250 HP N/A from 1.8 Liter 2ZZ. Look it up!

In 2001, Honda followed Toyota and developed K20 engine that put VVT-i together with exhaust/intake cam lift called i-VTEC.

  • Yeah I -VTEC was also made to outperform the old VTEC.I VTEC is VTEC an vvt-i.

  • Yes Honda followed Toyota when Toyota already implemented 'LIFT" in Yamaha 2ZZ-GE engine since 2ZZ (2000) came out 1 year before K20 was developed (2001).

2ZZ-GE VVTL-i (variable valve timing with lift intelligence).

    Which means,

Variable lift on both intake/exhaust cams + variable valve timing on intake valves only.

  • @SpeedKlz ..Honda Implement first "Lift" back to 1986 when 1st B series Implement VTEC which is the "children of Honda-F-1 engine back in 80's..Toyota copied that in 2ZZGE, but not for long because now they dont use that L again but use Dual VVT-i

  • @widnug VVTL-i isn't the same technology as Dual VVT-i.... dual VVT-i is a VVT system on both intake and exhaust camshafts, VVTL-i is increasing lift of the intake valves, wich also affects timing (ie opening sooner and closing later) VVTL-i was used to let the valves open longer than on VVT-i engines, cause' VVT-i was a bit of a compromise in high revs. the newest system is valvematic, this system uses VVT's on both camshafts but also has a variable lift so it's good in all conditions. grtz

  • @widnug i know all this because i'm a toyota technician and i took some classes in the Toyota academy, so i have the technical training documents and all that... :-p i'm not allowed to publish those tough :-(

  • actually i have a 2zz celi and 200hp at the wheels is a really hard thing to acomplish. the k20 is a real beast, and i admit it since the newer ones make 210hp at the crank stock. toyota got owned when they tried to challenge honda, the 2zz was made to compete with honda and honda developed the k20 and slaped toyota in the face and put the celi out of production:[

  • one of the fastest engines the VVTL-I like the corolla xrs
