You don't need to use a striping kit if you mow the same direction every week. However, you will rut up the lawn by cutting the same direction every week - especially in the spring and after rain storms.

@jenanderz I don't use a kit. I only mowed in the same direction for a bit more intense stripes for the video. I always switch up the direction. Thanks for watching my clip.

Thanks for posting. I've always wanted to know how to do that. My lawn has crap grass. Lots of weeds and stuff. Can I still stripe it? Or does the grass have to be quality cooch?

@jamesbrunhilde Yes you can! I have found that if you raise your deck a bit the grass chokes out most of the weeds and stripes nicer. See my "Striping 4" video. It's a bit jerky, but I have done this lawn at 3 3/4" for the season. No weed control used, but I think the stripes are just as good.

Yeah, but in a direction that compliments the first cut or your stripes will look sloppy. I like 45º diamond pattern or 90º checker-board.
