  • Woah! I always watched this as a kid! I never knew Ringo used to be Mr. Conductor! :D

  • I only heard Of Alec as Mister Conductor :O I know Ringo narrated the early stories but i never knew HE was Mister Conductor TOO :D!!

  • used to watch this all the time! now showing my kids:)

  • Avex Entertainment muted part 2

  • What year was this from?

  • The station had been reopened in this episode? That's quite an appropriate theme! Many old railroad stations have been restored similarly throughout the 90's, and many are continuing to be restored!

  • HAY ALL! CHECK OUT MY SONG MR. CONDUCTOR AND POAST YOUR COMENTS PLEASE!

  • Do you have Promises promises?

  • Ringo looks like Ahmadinejad

  • Where's part 2 of this episode?

  • It's so strange to have not watched this or even thought about this show in 20 years but seeing this now brings back a rush of memories. I remember those murals on the wall and that red suit. Wow, life goes fast.

  • This is amazing. This must be when Ringo Starr first took up acting after he quit being the drummer for the Beatles. Am I right?

  • Wow, take me back down memory lane why dont you lol! I have not seen this show in 20 years, the Jukebox puppets were my favorite, thanks so much for posting this!

  • so is this the first episode???

  • i sorta like carlin in this show than ringo

  • I wish there was a classic PBS Sprout channel so shows like this and many others we grew up watching could be aired again.

  • my first sighting of the station was in da moveh

  • Man, this brings back the memories like no other, this show and the Thomas the Tank Engine series. Funny thing is, as a little kid, I knew Ringo Starr as 'The Conductor' before I knew him as the drummer for The Beatles.

  • I never watched this as a child, my family got rid of the TV when I was born, and the show was already off PBS for a bit (as far as I know.)

Discovering it now, with a bit of reminiscing from my older siblings, and...

I love it. It's my greatest sadness that I can't buy these on DVD...(

(If any one knows of a place I can get them on DVD, even if it's really low quality, please let me know.)

  • Why did they cut out the ending outro jingle at the end of the Thomas gets tricked ep? They leave it in when the george carlin mr. Conductor tell this story again in Stacy forgets her name.

  • This is a great version of "I've been working on the railroad."

  • Shining Time Station was my second home as a child.

Back when television was still good.

  • my son watchs movie all the time loves it just loves it the movie is meant for kids anyway not adults give it a chanes it a cute movie for them i watched a few shows when i was young. yeah its a shame now adays about all these new ones just rueing it all its sad but good at same time times change nothing we can do about it

  • Stacey Jones is Didi Conn from Grease The Movie!

  • i been seen this i was little.

  • my friends is a fanaticabout trains

  • i remember when i was 4 they would air this on nick jr in 2000

  • @Thomasnumber1fan101 I remember that too, man.

  • @finnishminnow those were good times

  • How can they not?

  • @finnishminnow How can they not? What do you mean?

  • @RTPye117 Silly goose you. I was just trying to make you laugh by saying how could the times of STS airing on Nick Jr. not be good even though they were good times.

  • @finnishminnow Lolz :P

  • I was also at The Walk of Fame and saw Ringo getting his star there. I waved to him and i think he pointed back to me my dad thinks so too. It was one of the greatest nights of my life. I love you Ringo Starr and your lovely wife Barbara Bach too. Peace & Love. :)

  • I think i met Didi Conn once when i was about 2 or 3 and my dad was with me.

I think she use to live i my neighborhood in the Pacific Palisades where i live.

I think my dad told me i met her and he was with me.

Anyway I love Didi Conn, Ringo Starr Britt Allcroft Thomas the Tank Engine & Shining Time Station. I use to watch this show all the time when it was on PBS and i was a really little boy.

  • Aunt Stacey is so cute with Matt.

  • @Morty2264 She is cute.

  • @Morty2264 and @TheAllcroft

    You are so right!

  • @finnishminnow Thanks

  • Hey, you're welcome.

  • Boy, this brings back memories. I loved and still do love this show. I've tried watching the new Thomas and Friends but it just isn't the same.

  • @RTPye117 Why is that?

  • @finnishminnow I don't know, Thomas and Friends just doesn't have the same feel as Shining Time Station does. For one, they got rid of the Conductor and for two, it doesn't teach morals and values the way Shining Time Station did.

  • I LOVE THIS SHOW AS A KID A I STILL DO

  • i have a place unlike any other but is in black AND WHITE

  • @schemer1991 Why would thay make the tape B / W? It's culler on PBS, and here.

  • @RIPJohnandGeorge i have a shining time station episodes in color one in black and white

  • @schemer1991 Thats neet. Wich vershon do you prefer.

  • no, its not.

  • not yet shining time station is not on dvd yet maybe soon

  • omg..seriously almost makes me cry to see this...brings back so many childhood memories

  • i was a strange kid. when this came on i would comment on their outfits.

  • that's awesome.

  • Wow, watching that nickel roll down into the jukebox sure brings back memories. I remember that as a kid I always wanted my hair to look like the puppet drummer, DiDi. I almost forgot about that until today! Thanks so much for uploading this! To this day, Ringo is still my favorite Beatle!

  • I know this episode. It has been so long I almost forget my youth. I don't want that to happen.

  • That waiting bench was taken out in Seasons 2 and 3.

  • As a small child this was my absolue favorite tv show. It has so many memories in it that i want to cry and cuddle up in the living room at home and feel the warmth of my mom's hug. Those were the good days.

  • @Kleman09 I agree with you completely... The "Man With His Head On Backwards" episode and the Christmas ones were big highlights for me. My brother and I loved this show... my uncle taped a lot of them for us, which brings back great memories, too.

  • @Kleman09 I know what you mean i miss this show too.

  • So this is "Shining Time Station"?

I read about this in Wikipedia. This is the American take on Thomas the Tank engine that subsequently led to the Thomas and the magic railroad?

...s'allright, but as a brit, I like our original better.

  • We have the original Thomas too, though. I liked both.

  • Comment removed

  • me too.. i used to watch this show as a kid. how i miss those good ol days. and I really really liked this show.

  • Didi Conn (Stacey Jones) is known to play Frenchie in Grease the movie.

  • Tears of nostalgia...

  • Before I knew Ringo Starr as a Beatle, I knew him as Mr. Conductor.

  • Me, too!

  • wow, this brings back a lot of memories..i was a little guy back then and this was my favorite show.

  • Ringo Starr has said he will start trashing fan mail, ain't that weird?

  • And Sadly that day is today

  • yes and a lil band was inside the jukebox

  • didnt they put money in a jootbox and then some thing would happen tell me if im off base here

  • what is the episoide with the guy who painted the mural? The kids & Mr C go back in time....

  • How the Station got its name

  • this is when Ringo Starr was Mr. Conductor! i loved him in this!

  • ringo starr played the part? I thought it was george carlin that did the role of mr conductor.

  • yeah. Ringo Starr was Mr. Conductor for a bit. the Halloween episode is, i think, the first one George Carlin is in. i could be wrong, though. But Starr was Mr. Conductor in the beginning

  • Ringo Starr was the better Mr. Conductor not that George Carlin(R.I.P) didn't do a good job himself.

  • I agree that Ringo Starr made a better Mr. Conductor.

  • When did Joe Raposo die?

  • 1989. God rest his soul!

  • same here

  • Is this the very first episode?

  • Yes this was the pilot/first episode of Shining Time Station. It also hold the distinction of being the final episode of television that childrens composer Joe Raposo (of Sesame Street fame) worked on before he died.

  • When did Joe Raposo die?

  • Joe Raposo died in 1989.

  • Do you know what caused his death?

  • He died of cancer.

  • I'm sure that his longtime friend, Jim Henson, was devastated by his death.

  • Died Of Lymphoma.

  • I didn't know you were such an expert on Shining Time Station, as well, David.

  • Expert on game shows and childrens TV.

  • We really ought to find some good copies of this programme.

Still, this is better than nothing.

  • Ringo... omg XD I had forgotten about him. This whole show reeks of pure awesome!!!

  • I miss this show XD

  • My favorite show from my childhood.

I'd assumed it had long been buried and forgotten. Thanks for posting it.

  • my favorite too. I'm 24 and I'm glad I found STS here. I miss it.

  • Aw omg i miss this show so much =')

  • So this is the very first episode of "Shining Time" Right?

  • yep

  • Swear to god, this is the best show I've ever seen in my childhood life! I hope the first season will come out on DVD pretty soon that I could watch it almost everyday. ;)

  • Yes; it would be such a shame if younger generations never got to see this great stuff.

  • is ringo starr's hair in a ponytail? pause the video at 41 seconds.

  • i remember this show now. its a classic!

  • Holy shit I remember that coin going into the jukebox. I loved it heh, wow haven't seen this show in like 15 years

  • OMG!!! This was one of my favorite shows!!! Aaahh!! I almost forgot about this part of my childhood o_O

  • The episode that started it all. Shining Time Station was pretty much what my childhood was about.

  • Ahh..this brings back the memories!

  • Let's see, I love the theme song. I LOVE both conductors, but would rather hear Mr. Ringo sing, than Mr. Carlin tell an off-color joke. Didi has a perfect character voice. She's a doll!

  • are you implying that Mr. Carlin is a losuy comedian?

  • No, just a filthy one.

  • I loved this show growing up! I watched it every day! Ringo made a better conductor than George Carlin. :D

  • "Then I'll tell you a story, about my friend Thomas."

    That's a line I'll aways remember.

  • is that ringo cos i never watched this first time

  • He was the first Thomas The Tank Engine narrator in 1984 to 1986 in the UK and 1989 in the US.

  • He's da drummer of the Beatles and he's left-handed.

  • wow!!!!!!!i used to watch this and right after carmen sandiago

  • I remember that show. I watched it all the time.

  • Comment removed

  • Hmm... I didn't know that "Shining Time Station" came on after "Carmen Sandiego". However, I heard that shows other than that came on after "Carmen Sandiego" during the verble ads during the end credits were mentioned of which I heard on Dailymotion and YouTube so far. Like "Sesame Street" for instance after one of the Season 2 episodes of "Carmen Sandiego".

Did you recall of other shows besides "Shining Time Station" coming on after "Carmen Sandiego", even during the verble ad on the end?

  • gasp! It's Frenchie?!?!FTW!!?

  • Yep. Didi Conn (who played Frenchie in Grease (best musical-turned-movie ever!)) plays Stacy Jones in STS. I love STS and Grease. Don't you?
