Everyone completely misses the point, especially Deathwish026. This is *suborbital*. The energies involved with this compared to an orbital launch vehicle are similar to that of an RC car compared to a fighter jet.

This vehicle never even enters space-- it only reaches 42% of the way there (using the Kármán line definition).

This is not to detract from what Armadillo Aerospace has done, as this would make a fantastic research and scientific platform, but it isn't a technological breakthrough.
