  • Perhaps he should run for office!

  • Tell me his pension will be based on this paycut and I'll be more impressed. Most likely he'll retire with about 150 grand a year pension if not more. Also this education/brain washing that he is paying out of his pocket for these students really doesn't help anyone but the Government!

  • Thank you guys, restoring my faith in humanity... at least for a few minutes.

  • well played larry powell, well played. not only are you improving teaching methods in the classroom, you're also providing a glowing example of how to behave as a responsible, altruistic adult outside the school yard.

  • Larry Powell is a hero. I'm surprised he's not in prison like Bradley Manning.

  • a real American

  • Well maybe if he wasnt being paid 800 000 a year to start they wouldnt be in such dire straights.

  • @Kenneth1238 Did you even care to watch the video or just decided to leave your moronic foot print here ?

He wasn't paid 800,000 per yer. The cuts he is making is over 3 years.

  • @rnahar Must you go to insults? Honestly how far do you expect to get with anyone if you start out by trying to piss them off? I don't expect you have much reason to be personally insulted because I said that this guy made too much money to start with. Now I did watch the rest of this video and I still stand by the point that he was being paid too much to begin with. The fact that he makes enough in three years to accumulate $800 000 is a problem in itself. Now I do acknowledge that.....

  • @Kenneth1238 he did not have to take this pay cut but as well I also see that he still did not do this totaly out of kindness. He said it himself that he has enough money. He had his pay day and now he is ready to move on which I can respect well enough but he is still not the hero this video makes him out to be.

  • Why is a superintendent making as much money a year as the President of the US?

  • Why would any individual need 800k or more. He did it voluntarily but why did the system develop that its standard to have that 250k a year. That is because I don't see really what they do to justify anything near it when I know plenty of teachers that actually work their butts off. I could say if you want to make bank in education become a superintendent. Do it for the money and its 'just a job'. But people who want to cut funds for eduction, there is your target.

  • Yeahhh im a fresno high school student

  • Um that man needs to run the country

  • Glenn Beck will find some way to equate this guy with the Nazis.

  • 12 people must have accidentally clicked the wrong button because there's no way anyone could dislike this guy.

    American hero!!

  • What a fucking fantastic hero this guy is.

The OPPOSITE of any filthy, dirty, tea-qaeda repiglicunt vermin. A decent, caring human being who believes in doing the right thing for his fellow human beings.

  • There is hope

  • 0.0 this guy is a saint, he is my new role model 

  • Good man

  • CNN super Hero

  • GOD I love this man

  • This is the first time I saw a TYT video with a "left" opening political ad; it was against senate bill 5 in Ohio.

  • @ignbtd I'd think it's obviouse but maybe not: if there are people left with nothing (and nothing to lose) forceful redistribution (=mugging, breaking and entering, kidnapping) does become an option to more and more people. Also, I would argue that the bottom 10% in Middle- and Northern European countries have health insurance, paid housing etc. which is a massive redistribution of wealth. Would it be possible to get health insurance in the USA on an income of only $9000 per annum?

  • no worries, the politicians will now cut his districts funding by 700,000$

  • @ignbtd I might be mistaken but in countries with the most inequality I expect to see families with eight or more children as their parents health insurance and retirement plan on the one side and high fences and privat armies on the other side. Maybe it's just me but I'd rather live in a world where I do not have to lock my front door when leaving the house and where a walk in the park at night is not considered suicidal.

  • ok, I missed the part where we are paying a school administrator $831,000 a year IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!! Lets get this right. The men and women who go into our demilitarized zone class rooms and get paid UNDER the average salary is 1/16th of this? Not taking anything away from him, at least he had the heart to do it. But we need to question nearly million dollar salaries for school administrators.

  • Since that chick is making something clear I would like to as well; superintendents don't run each school separately, they make broad decisions and go with it. Soooooo yea he is basically in charge of everything as a whole, not independently.

  • @ignbtd

The United States may provide more foreign aid in absolute terms, but as a percentage of GDP it is actually less than most of the other developed countries. When you consider that the US has over 60x the population of Denmark, it only makes sense that the US would have more money to give. However, in 2006 Denmark used 1.03% of its GDP for Overseas Development Assistance (ODA), whereas the US only gave 0.17% (Source: OECD)

  • @ignbtd A good start would be to massively reduce the influence of big money on politicians and legislation. If minimum wages can support a decent living and health care and pensions are covered, the differences in income would defenitely not matter as much as they do today. The fallout of the increasing imbalance of income is not only the hardship of the poor, but goes much further: overpopulation, violence, ecological destruction of our ecosystem, etc.

  • @ignbtd You're right, we have to solve that problem. I propose we channel that aid money back to the most productive of our society. Our job creating banking CEOs.

Sidenote: Isn't ironic how the country that provides the most foreign aid also chooses to cut aid money to FEMA for their own people in the wake of hurricanes devestating the northeast? There must be a reason. Tell me if you find it.

  • Someone living in America that doesn't worship money. Does not compute.

  • @ignbtd Fuck off you dimwit.

  • @BenjiREC Unlike you he was capable. You think Ron Paul makes sense, because you're a tard.

  • @ignbtd You're a dunce, like all the other emotionally crippled Ayn rand degenerates. Those books are a test and you have failed it.

  • So much for Bill Gates' $55,000,000,000

  • Wow amazing

  • What the conservatives fail to realize is that this is not charity. It is a person who realized that personal wealth is meaningless if it comes at the expense of the society you live in. He chose, not to give his money away, but to decline a much more handsome salary so he could increase the quality of life of his family. And I'm almost certain he looks at each student as if they were his family.

  • @ignbtd Hey dumbass

    Real Americans have Empathy

    Real Americans help others

    Real Americans work together

It’s all through our History, that’s America, and that’s what made us a great nation

Not the corrupt psycho racist Tea Bagger “fuck everyone (especially non-white people) I am the center of the universe” BS.

The number of Tea Baggers is plummeting as people realize what the anti-American astro-turf psycho movement really is about. And those people are pissed.

  • @Sarge714 LOL for a while there i thought u were talking about canadains

  • @ignbtd Let's hope not . One fundamentalist idiot from texas was way more than enough .

  • @ignbtd Yeah right , and Larry Craig isn't GAY .

  • in America? IS THIS REAL LIFE..

  • Hey Dumbass stupid fuck loser Republican Tea Baggers, this is called Empathy.

You ignorant Tea Bagger Republicans, this is what made American great.

Berlin Airlift, we just bombed the fuck out of them, we rebuild them.

Japan, nuked them, and then helped rebuild them.

Anytime a disaster in the world occurred, America was there first with aid. This made the US great.

You can take your anti-American arrogant self-centered Ayn Rand bullshit and go fuck your Anti-American Tea Bagging asses.

  • A very good person. Thank you

  • One things for DAMN sure. Since this guy's a Christian he's definitely not a Republicunt.

  • The greatest man in the world is Dr. Norman Borlaug. But this guy, he is definitely the second greatest person in the US at least.

  • Get the facts straight. He's not giving up anything. He's retiring and thanks to the incredibly generous California pension, he'll probably making just as much but it will be from the already strapped pension fund - which now will be 800k lighter over these three years - instead of from the school district. Great for his school district I guess - bad for all the other tax payers who will have to bail out the pension fund.

  • @TwinCitian07 No you're a fool. You should learn more.

  • Best guys in the country

1 Guy that saved little girl

    2 This guy

    3 Cenk

    4 Me

5 Most fire fighters and EMS workers a FEW cops

  • Wow there are still good people in this world. It is a very good thing to see. He is a great example.

  • This man is a real hero.

  • why are they paying a super atn. that much no wonder there are no books or computers in school

  • Thank god some people understand what life is all about

  • He's clearly not a Republican.

  • Good job Super Nintendo Powell.

  • This dude should run for president. I feel like a rake with a pumpkin on top of it has a pretty good chance to win the election. There's so many losers running, that can't be the best this country can come up with.

  • Now if only presidents of universities in this country would make similar sacrifices...but seriously, this guy is a hero.

  • That's fantastic for him--but damn, why the hell was he making over 800k for this job in the first place, in this economy?

  • That's awesome, but why the fuck is a superintendent making that much to begin with.

  • American Hero.

  • How the hell can any1 dislike this. This man is an angel idk anyone who would do that. I sure as hell wouldn't! 800k? Damn

  • OK, this guy makes up for Michelle Bachmann.

  • Wow superintendents make bank.

  • my question is why the fuck was he getting paid so much in the first place?

  • This man is a real American I salute him

  • HERO

  • this guy is a fucking saint. we need more people like him!

  • watch, this guy is gonna try to run for office

  • @ibanezmike25

I'm so glad I'm not you.

  • so do you just go on youtube and make comments on other peoples posts because ur so much better?

  • @ibanezmike25

While that does for the most part sum me up, I said it because I really am so glad that despite any problems I might have or anything I may be lacking, at least I can enjoy what's good in this world. At least cynicism doesn't have its stranglehold on me to the point that I can't see anything right in this world without deciding that it must be something bad in disguise.

Seriously, there are people living in shit with a more positive outlook on the world than you have. It's sad.

  • Witness true altruism, not the phoney brand that leftists enforce at the end of a gun. That's called slavery.

    Class dismissed.

  • @FreedomsReigning

I don't like the division you're bringing, but I think it's very unlikely that this guy is conservative as opposed to liberal.

It's not necessarily a bad thing, I'm liberal minded but not as generous as he is, but your point is silly.

  • @FreedomsReigning You have nothing to teach dimwit. Your childish oversimplifications are laughable and show you to be both ignorant and a right fucking prick. Good luck in your life, you're going to need it.

  • @nilbud Trash like you can't afford to tell the difference between charity and slavery.

Why, because you're a looter, and you know it.

  • YOU guys are such TOOLS!!.. you actually believe this story.. let me tell you the truth..and thumbs up the truth.. See this guy obviously did this because he was being black mailed. And so he comes off looking like a HERO.. but really maybe he is a pedophile and maybe he was getting fired, and he wants to be around the kids so he cut this deal and now he is an American Hero!!..get real..

  • @ricky1oh1 What is this? I don't even...

How is a superintendent around the kids? Superintendents are stuck in offices and school boards, not classrooms. By the way do you have any evidence, whatsoever, that he is a pedophile? Or that he was getting fired? I dare you to disclose your real name so that someone could sue your ass for libel.

  • @ricky1oh1 Blackmailed by who? And "obviously did this"? To me, it's obvious that he has absolutely no reason to give up any money at all. He could still take the money and claim to do his best.

  • that's what i dont like about progrssives. they think the whole world is evil.

there is good in this world

  • @Szekler11

Stop generalising. In fact, stop plain making stuff up.

  • @Szekler11 Thanks for the Derp.

  • I'm declaring it!! Cenk one of the top three dumbest guys in the country!! MSNBC would agree

  • @joshros reason why?

  • @joshros Where did that come from? I'm mildly confused.

  • @HollyTheFireNinja

I'm guessing because we're all just idiots and Cenk's the biggest tool of them all? Why? Well because we've all bought into this hook, line, and sinker. We honestly believe that there are good people in this world! What IDIOTS we are? When are we going to wake up and revel in the 'fact' that everybody in this world is as obnoxious and self obsessed as I am and see through these wonderful things as the dastardly scams they are?

Or some kind of variation of that theme.

  • @ViolentRiC I see. Well, if you only report depressing news three hours a day everyday, it's bound to do something to you, I guess.

  • @HollyTheFireNinja

People just need to remember that if they become jaded to the point that they can't see good where it exists and have to come up with theories as to why anybody would do a good thing, they've lost. I mean, they've lost in life. Don't let the world rob you of the beauty that exists.

  • uhh.. a local super intendent makes more than 800.000 dollars? Why?

  • @shittyfagg Roughly 300,000 dollars if you do the maths. And someone in charge of hundreds of thousands of kids education should be well paid: Partially as an incentive to do a good job, partly as a reward for the responisbility but also as a preventive measure against bribery and corruption.

  • @shittyfagg Over three years.

  • Do you think he's a.... Republican ?

  • Fuckin good cunt

  • @FumingPoliticalPunk Go drink yourself to death already. Fuming political punk, my ass.

  • Wow, like 10% of the commenters misunderstood the story and thought he made 800,000 per yr while others seem not to have understood that the money isn't going to be distributed to each student. I assume most people here are American...so those who couldn't follow the story please go read books and get smarter or else you'll just be polluting our nations gene pool.

  • Superintendents make more than doctors?

  • this is good lesson about how much money dose a person need

  • I love this story <3

  • Hail comrade.

  • I take it back, Honor really does still exist.

  • Financial hero

  • This guy should be on The Alyona show's "The Glimmer of hope" segment.

  • He's sharing his money with people who need it instead of giving it to the church? OMYGAAAWD! Pay attention tea party fuckers. This man is closer to god than you pricks will ever be.

  • I'm from Fresno and from the school district this guy is in charge of. It's definitely an amazing gesture (setting an example and so forth) but Fresno is still FUCKED massively, as is the rest of California.

  • too little, too late. admirable, but the american experiment has failed. enough wealth has been captured by those that feel no compulsion to help a citizenry that he views as lazy and undeserving, and in turn have used that wealth to capture the policymakers that can ensure this view is forever perpetuated. as the sun sets on us, let us remember that we found it easier to delay acts like this, smaller or bigger, and to find the meaning of community and country than to gloat about individualism

  • Fox News: "HE'S A COMMUNIST!!!"

  • @sleazybtd Lmao .. Couldn't have said it Better myself .. Fuckin America .lol.. home of the free cough cough i mean of the enslaved

  • @roomstogo yea I'd rather be a slave to the EU than to my government.

  • Complete contrast to the public school administrators in my area. They give themselves nothing but pay raises while the schools are shit, then demand higher property taxes for it.

  • YES WE LOVE HIM "

  • This man should be a saint

  • Comment removed

  • I'm sorry but superintendents should NOT be making $288k a year. That being said, this guy is a fantastic educator who obviously wants what is best for the students in his district.

  • @2011blueman Why shouldn't they? This guy is managing the education of 195,000 kids. Bankers, who destroyed the economy, are making millions and contributing nothing to society.

  • @2011blueman Agreed- that is an exorbitant salary for that position . .In many states , the administrators eat up most of the budget . This guy really sounds like an exceptional human being ! Kudos to him - he deserves recognition and the world would be a better place if there were more like him.

  • (bowing to the greatness of this manly sacrifice...)

  • There must be some type of kitchen to the left

  • this guy was making 288K a year before he started making 31K.

Im just wondering why he was making 288K to begin with

  • @MochaDrinks Because he's got an education and he's doing a professional job for 30 years, he didn't start on $288K

  • he puts a lot of people to shame

  • Stop marking comments as span because you don't agree. It's annoying.

  • Incredilbe man. The story actually made me kind of tear up. It's that amazing!

  • just sent him a message on facebook telling him he rocks xD

  • Comment removed

  • Give this guy a Nobel Peace Prize.

  • Good luck seeing Michelle Bachmann or any other christian do something like this. Christian means WAR. Christian means GREED. Christian means passing judgment on others while they themselves remaining incognizant of their own faults.

  • @cpufightclub you dont know much about christianity then.. just check the message upwards, bachmann & so many other christians (& other ppl from other faiths) are a shame to their religion.. but why bother explaining

  • wow.. i really want a perfect world now.. fuck you big bang.

  • Give that man a god-damned medal. He's done more for our kids than politicians have in a lifetime.

  • So, this guy makes about $300,000 a year? As a school superintendent? Now that's fucked up.

  • Woo, go Fresno.

    -From a resident

  • Comment removed

  • Christians, pay attention:

"If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

    - Jesus, Matthew 19:21

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal."

    -Jesus, Matthew 6:19-20

    Class dismissed.

  • @manonthemount You. are. awesome.!

  • @manonthemount um there is no god you retard

  • @manonthemount I agree with you, but let's also emphasize this is VOLUNTARY. Coerced sharing is still coercion. True voluntary charity is one of the most beautiful things in the world, let's keep it that way.

  • @JumpinJesuits Fuck off you noxious dimwit.

  • @manonthemount it is truly ironic that those who profess the strongest belief in Jesus tend to pay the least attention to WHAT HE SAID!!!!!!!

  • do the math:

    $800,000 over 195,000 students =

    *drum roll*

$4.10 per student (one time, not even per year)

I'm sorry to burst your 'feel good' bubble but it was a worthless gesture. This is what wealth redistribution looks like, $1 million divided among 1 million people = $1 each. The CEO's you want to take pay cuts, the workers would get a trivial amount, but less people would compete to be CEO's, a job that if done badly ends with the all the workers out of work.

  • @jordan56789 If you are old enough to have learned anything from 2008, it should be that compensation and performance are not linked. A little research could've yielded you a number of studies showing an inverse relationship between pay and performance of CEOs, but facts aren't your thing, are they? You could've looked into economics, disposable vs. discretionary income, or marginal utility of $1, but why bother? All that reality gets in the way of your argument.

  • @jordan567890 you do realize thats its for the different departments in the school, right? say, the band needs $25,000 for new outfits. the art department needs $10,000 for canvases, clay, ect. the health department needs $15,000 for medical equiptment. the education department needs $50,000 for a better pay raise for the teachers. better pay usually leads to better teaching. this can go on. and on.

  • @jordan567890 they're not giving money directly to the kids, it will probably be used for textbooks and equipment.

  • @jordan567890 ROFL, man the tiny tiny mind you have, it's fucking hilarious.

  • I want to shake this man's hand

    seriously

  • damn there's a lot of ppl in the top 3

  • real american I salute you sir!!!!!

  • The whole country is full of unethical bastards. Thank god there are ppl like this to set the example.

  • damn

  • Amazing. That man is awesome. Bravo, Larry Powell.

  • This man....

    Is a great American.

  • So cooool!!!

  • this whole story is good, people volunteer to help others. that's not socialism. socialism is a centrally planned economic philosophy.

  • 100% Right on this one Cenk!

  • best story ive heard all year, we definitely dont hear enough good news

  • Can someone link me to the recent video when Cenk was talking about things "trickling down" to the middle-class?

  • Suddenly Fresno became not quite as shitty...

  • Comment removed

  • 800 THOUSAND FUCKING DOLLARS A YEAR? WE PAY THEM THAT MUCH!!!???

  • @chronDiggity Actually within 3 years. So 800k divided by 3, whatever that is.

  • Try finding a rich guy who would give $8 much less $800,000

  • @bagsmohess So true.. And so fucking sad..
