  • Smooth!

  • nice

  • i have the same roll technique, and it works finee even on concrete..greetings from Romania Speedy

  • Nice roll ! I tried to do it like this recently but kept hitting my spine..... I had to adapt my technique to my morphology I guess. The trajectory of my rolls starts closer to my arm pit and ends higher on the hip :)

  • This is an excellent roll in an extreme, unanticipated situation.

  • I lol'd

  • can you meke a tutorial of this?

  • Perhaps it ought to be a termed a "speed roll."

  • LOL

  • I agree, adaptation to the terrain is what Parkour is all about. This roll appears to be faster that a usual roll, but it doesn't seem plausible after a medium to large drop, or on anything hard. Grass is ok, but it does look like you could smash your shoulder or back doing this from a height onto something hard.

  • hey thy for this vid now i understand how to do the roll, now i just have to do it good ^^

  • now dats wat i call a good roll!

  • I like this roll, something diffrent for a change instead of the usual.

  • I think it is also what you prefer, with this roll, i feel my back on hard ground, my roulade, is much more sidewards, but i am ending almost the same, and i also can run straight away, and a roll is to break your fall.

So I wondering, of this roll is different in breaking the fall, beacause i think it is the same,

ps nice style from him ;)

  • Well, Parkour is about adaptation. So, you don't have to always roll on exactly the same way. Adapt. Roll one way on concrete, and another one on grass.

    ;)

  • Hmmmm, I don't know guys, this roll looks a lot like a front roll to me, he is ending too much in the front. I would like to see how that roll works in a hard ground instead of grass.

  • All you have to do is watch other videos of Dim Monk.

    That's how he always rolls...

    ;)

  • It doesnt matter how the roll looks aslong as its painless and doesnt injure the practicioner it doesnt matter.

  • I agree

  • omg... i cant afford it

always roll over my shoulder and it fucking hurts

  • It happened to everyone in the beginning.

    Just keep practicing!

    :)

  • hmmmmmm

looking over it again i see that youre right, there isnt a differnce, its just a very smooth roll

whats with the title of the move though? it made me think that there must be something different about it, to have its own name..... unless thats what all rolls are called?

  • Oh... right.

    Yeah, that's the original term.

    "Roulade" means "roll" in French!

    ;)

  • ah

    lol :D

  • I see the difference from normal rolls, but does it make them better? Are they best used in only some situations? I'd like to know

  • Hmm... I'm not sure I see much of a difference... True, he has his own style, but I don't think the technique itself is different. What exactly are you referring to?

  • I notice these are not the rolls where one hand has its side pressed to the ground (the hand that leads to the shoulder over which the person will roll), while the other hand is pressed flat against the ground. I'm wondering if that is the difference that you are talking about, or if you are comparing these rolls with gymnastics rolls, or if there is something that I have not yet caught onto. Thanks.

  • no, i guess i wasnt alone. you noticed the slight difference i noticed. but, its pretty much the same...

its like instead of rolling straight onto his shoulder (well, not straight on) he rolls along the curve of his arm, shoulder and back. it seems more fluid, but its probably because hes so strong and hes not doing some fat drop.

    interesting

  • Thanks for pointing that out. Come to think of it, that reminds me of how Judo rolls are described in some online tutorials. I tried using my arms as a rail, for rolls, but I find it easier (less likelihood of hurting myself) to do away with that. I am now guessing that the person in the video may have been into martial arts at some point; but that is just a guess.

  • hes incredibly powerful. i remember seeing in a PAWA video some strong parkourist doing side rolls from standing. he used his one arm as a rail

    *shudders*

yea, lets not try that, lol. more strength and practice is needed

  • Actually, if you do it correctly, it's not bad at all. Of course, if you stop practice before it becomes second nature, then it could take a while to figure out how to do a martial arts roll, without a sensei (my aching shoulders and lower back are a testimony to this).
