TELL US SOMETHING WE DON'T KNOW MICHAEL I AM SICK TO THE BACK TEETH OF IT EVERY DAY YOU CAN NOT OPEN A MAGAZINE WITHOUT LOOKING AT LIES BRIBERY CORRUPTION SCANDAL EVERY DAY I've made my mind up i'm going to emigrate and use Ryanair
Ha, what? Why does everything you don't agree with need to be connected with some behind-closed-doors conspiracy? We voted, Lisbon got through, deal with it.
Some of the people who voted 'Yes' to Lisbon are in favour of closer European integration (as opposed to the pursuit of imagined riches). I think that Lisbon represents the high-water mark of the European project for at least the next decade. If the EU ultimately seeks to introduce a US-style of federalism, the U.K.will finally reject the project, and Ireland will hold yet another referendum on an EU Treaty.
I was in Dublin airport last year , I saw a lot of Ryan air workers , not one of them was Irish , Ryan air also profited from the uncontrolled mass immigration into Ireland !
Big business sees no boundries, the lisbon treaty is just another step towards the united states of europe & for companies like ryan air to make large profits for its owners, The irish Middle classes voted for the treaty in a sad attempt to hold on the profits made during the last decade, they dont want to confront the fact that the celtic tiger is dead ..
I don't understand why Michael O'leary is so unpopular in his own country, Ireland. It seems that he's public enemy number one. At least that's my impression.
Yes, he is brash and very outspoken, but he has a great mind and thinks always outside the box.
Look, the govt was never going to accept a No vote. They would've kept on holding referendums each time with a new set of bribes given to the public.
If the majority of the rest of Europe looks unfavourably on us now, that's their problem. Ireland was at least smart enough to have it in our constitution that a referendum was required.
And please stop calling O'Leary a straight talker. He's just a populist. He was critical of the 2nd vote occuring yet then changes his mind and embraces it
I would'nt blame ordinary european hating us after this day, it remains to be seen how ruthless these bastards are, but i think we have an initial idea by the fact that war criminal blair is tipped to be president of a federal europe.

Looks like a treaty required for a more efficient and streamlined EU is about to be approved. No doubt the science fiction stories of the no campaign, fueled by interfering UK euro-phobes and parties like terrorist Sinn Fein will prove to be just that once again. The EU has done wonders for this little country in ways many will never know. The treaty makes sense. United we are strong - the alternative was just crazy.....ciao

Joseph Goebbels: I feel no sympathy. I repeat, I feel no sympathy! The German people chose their fate. That may surprise some people. Don't fool yourself. We didn't force the German people. They gave us a mandate, and now their little throats are being cut!
As O'Leary explains, everybody (of all social classes) can afford to fly thanks to de-regulation the airline business at an EU level.
Do you not understand that Jolly Roger. With you 'bogey man' comments about Tony Blair as EU President. Blair will not make it as President unless there is a consensus in regard to his appointment (if, indeed, he is even a contender).
No. He just wants to get hold of Air Lingus. Besides that was done without the Lisbon treaty so is not a a valid argument to vote for it. The EU has thousands of regulations that would put small businesses out of business if enforced.
Not really, just a few clear examples will do. Anyway, we're all going to find out a lot more when the treaty is ratified. I predict a 62% majority in favour.
The NO campaign reminds me of the WB Yeats poem we all studied at school:
Ireland will seize to exist if you vote yes. Tony Blair could become president of the EU. This would be your last vote of any significance as the EU is not democratic.
Needless to say Blair should be in prison rather than ruling over Europe. We would be the laughing stock of the world and face real danger with this psycopath in charge.
Just on a point of information, Eire without an accent on the 'e' means 'burden'. And we will all end up as beasts of burden if we vote 'No' today.
Inaccurate to categorise Tony Blair (even if chosen as EU President) as President of Ireland. The reality is that Brian Cohen (our Prime Minister) and his Givernment will continue to call the shots, expecially in relation to the all important area of corporate taxation policy (a crucial pivot in attracting inward investment into Ireland).
The odds of a 'No' vote are 8/1 with Paddy Power today. These odds have been more or less the same for the past week. None of the 'smart money' is being wagered on a 'No' vote. All the money has been bet on a 'Yes' vote, which is why the odds on 'Yes' are currently 1/25.
So, by all means, Jolly Roger, have a bet of Euro 100 on the 'No' outcome. If you're right, you will get Euro 900 back from Paddy Power tomorrow evening. But, then again, you will probably be wasting your money.
NO vote = we are still in the EU, like we are now, and the EU must be more accountable to the people of Europe. It stops the runaway power of the EU parliament and its gravy train expenses.
YES vote = no way back, we can't undo mistakes made in the treaty or the EU, our say in EU is halved. Some countries say is doubled.
The mature thing is to stand up and tell EU to correct the problems, not to give in to the accusing tut-tutting of EU politicians trying to tell us we should be embarrassed.
Not a great friend of M O Leary but certainly most things he says about Irish Politics & the benefits of the EU for this little island village are correct.
O'Leary is a 'smug fucker'...he'd sell his granny a seat on ryanair...Any short man that wears cuban heels, jeans with a suit jacket an open shirt is tryin to make up for somethin'...This little napoleon needs to be stepped on..modelling himself on Sarkosy no doubt...always bannin' on about creatin' jobs but was willin to sacrifice same jobs last year if he didnt get his way...O'leary's only master is money...I think the word im lookin for to describe this little mercenary is a 'CUNT'...
Here in Germany we are protected from large bits of the Lisbon Treaty/Constitution....you are not !
Voting YES will not bring you any gain and voting NO will bring you no loss.
"Germany's Constitutional Court forced the government to approve new laws to repair the damage the Treaty did to national democracy. Since the Irish have not taken similar measures, the Irish people should vote NO to the Treaty on democratic grounds" (Prof.Murswiek,University of Freiburg).
"Look my campaign for a Yes vote...aah..one of the reasons that I am campaigning for a Yes vote is that our government is incompetent, yet I need to persude them to sell me Aer Lingus" - Michael O'Leary 28-09-09
Why is Ryanair trying to convince people that europe is the EU? You can say yes to Europe without saying yes to the EU which is an undemocratic political organisation rather than a continent. This is shoking propaganda.
I won't be flying Ryanair again. Most of their flights are from London so they are more of a British company. The Lisbon treaty would legalise the DEATH penalty in Ireland. See Jim Corr - The Lisbon Treaty: v=fCPicGUQv4M
The game is almost over... Paddy Power are offering odds of 8/1 on a 'No' victory. So, all you 'No' voters out there, pit your money where your mouth is and bet on a 'No' victory at 8/1.
I, personally, prefer the 1/25 (slender odds I know) offered in respect of a 'Yes' victory. In other words I will have to bet Euro 25 to make a profit of Euro 1 on a 'Yes' victory. That's how certain PAddy Power are that the 'Yes' side of the spectrum will win.
Jolly Roger - your comments are inaccurate. The EU has donated billions and continues to - the ECB is currently funding our bail out - we'd be like Iceland without euro membership. Clearly a no vote would be very damaging
Also, Its a condition of EU membership to abolish capital punishment. Ireland abolished it in 1990 and is party to a number of international agreements forbidding it - including Protocol 13 to the European Convention on Human Rights which forbids it even during time of war
ganley, an irish american with deep links to the USA military suddenly returns to Ireland to out spend the major political parties in his support for a no vote. open your eyes, he is being funded by the US government to keep europe weak and divided
Bullshit ! the euro's worthless , adopting it has taken away irelands ability to devalue our own currency and remain competitive , trading in euros with the uk our biggest single export market has screwed us !
o leary loves to play the man of the people , i was in dublin airport a while back , and not 1 single ryanair employee was an irish person ! all migrants !
@onlygoodhunsadeadun1 You do realise if we wernt part of europe we would not have half the roads,schools... if we still had the Shitty Irish pound tourists from Europe would not travel here as much
In it for yourselves with all the foregin workers ye empley, to exploit them , Wel done. Vote no your making ppl really see what lisbon really is. They need to try fool the Irish people. Its not working mick.
I don't trust our corrupt political class or our big businessmen/bankers etc. who are the same ones who have helped put Ireland in the sh*t it is today. All they want is a Yes vote for their own self interest. As if Michael O'Leary actually cares about his people? I'm definitely voting No
Funny - a no campaign headed by Sinn Fein (terrorists who opposed every EU treaty), Ganley (idiot), Coir (catholic lunatics) and interfering UK nationalist groups (like the comments from "UK freedom fighter" clearly an open minded individual - was England promoting "freedom" when subjecting people all over the world by force of boots and the gun?).
Who cares if we vote twice - we did the same on Nice. I wont listen to lunatic fringes - the Treaty's needed and the EU is good - I'm voting Yes
hey, I wasn't alive then so it has nothing to do with me. I am for freedom and bringing corupt politicians to justice, they lied about WMDs, so why do people trust anything they say? I mean we just had the expenses scandal!
but of course wealthy career politicians have the publics best interests at heart......dont they?
They wouldn't lie about the real purpose of the EU would they? just wait 'till they are anouncing a global gov't. they are anouncing a 'New World Order' in the media.
Lisbon will give more power to big businesses to move Irish jobs to Poland and German jobs to Rumania !
The EU cannot leave ireland in the lurch because this would damage the Eurozone !
Germany's leading Lisbon treaty expert (Prof. Schachtschneider) recently said the following to the Irish Times : « With a NO vote, the Irish have the opportunity to save human dignity in Europe."
rubbish, did you not listen to what Michael O'Leary said? I want to keep our EU Commissioner and a veto over direct taxation. Big businesses are free to move to Poland tomorrow if they want, it has nothing to do with Lisbon Treaty.
I gues I wont take this airline again. Europhile and meddling with the peoples wishes. Lisbon has been turned down already. No to corporate personhood!
Ask yourself this: what's so great about Ireland that government from Brussels wouldn't be preferable? Our government is demonstrably corrupt and incompetent. We have allowed our children to be repeatedly raped for the better part of a century; our elderly are left to rot in homes rife with institutional abuse; our consititution is little more than a poorly worded prayer. It's time to let go of our petty nationalism.
Whats great about the Irish government? NOTHING! Why? Because they are the EU!
Ask yourself this! What is great about the Irish people? They will stand up for their national interests which is more than any other nationality will do for Ireland. In my country (Britain) London gets almost everything they want were as other parts have to grovel for almost anything. If we extend the hole nation to the EU that scenario will become Lisbon, Brussels and Strasbourg rather than London.
This comment appeals to the most self-centered and nationalistic of interests. This referendum has nothing to do with Britain: we are voting to ammend our constitution.
Declan said he would not be back, but he has. In the first vote he was campaining on the possible lack of a Commissioner and no more veto on direct taxation. Ireland secured these rights for the 2nd vote, but Declan is still whinging. No to meddling British failed politicians such as Declan and UKIP in our country, they have already f*cked up the North for too many years.
NUTS IS MISSING OFF YOUR PROFILE NAME, the last time these assholes or plonkers as o leary called them, must not have promised him a brown envelope the usual way politicians work or are you really that dumb NUMBNUTS15
If we vote no the the remainder of the EU will continue towards greater integration without us.
I suppose it would suit Britain to have it's largest trading partner thus isolated; this is really the only reason I can think of for the otherwise inexplicable British interest in this matter.
But France and Holland clearly do not want more integration. Neither do a lot of nations who have not had the vote. Many of our nations fought over any generations for independence and freedom. Now you want to give your independence and freedom up?
Surely those who died fighting for our freedom must be turning in their graves.
France and Holland have already ratified the treaty. And who are these people who died for "our" freedom? Irish freedom was won from the British at great cost. The purpose of the European project is to prevent such conflicts happening again.
The important thing to remember is that EU membership is entirely voluntary. Any state can leave at any time. If Ireland votes no the rest of the EU will no doubt cary on towards greater integration without us.
Not when you consider the fact that Holland and France both voted no too. In Britain the poles show that given if given the referendum we would vote no too.
So what will be left of the EU if so many member states vote no to this? That is what the Euro-sheep fear!
God knows why because its not as if we are being asked "Do you want to be in the EU?" We'r being asked "Will you sign this without reading the small print?"
We are being asked to amend our consitution to allow the Lisbon treaty to come into force. The full text of the treaty is freely available online for all to read. Which part of it do you object to?
People of Ireland are actually very intelligent even though many people joke about them being stupid. It's nothing but a racist myth.
When the referendum comes the people of Ireland will prove their intelligence with a big fat NO vote!
This day will be remembered for years to come!
In 10/20 years time the everyday folk around the hole of Europe will remember this day as the day that the republic of Ireland stud up for democracy throughout the hole of Europe!
Vote Yes for god sake. And if I had my way, I'd lift nuclear prohibition, un-neutrilize the country (NOT Consription) and would have had abortion instigated. We already have a buch of brainless fuckers for a government who have been kept afloat by the ECB and the EU for the past 12 months. The rest of the world is showing some sort of economic recovery while we sink deeper into dept. Taxation and Workers rights cannot be changed by this treaty as they are a matter of local law. I'm only 16 yo
Just shows there are thick people in the world. The Irish government seems to be thick, their Media seems to portray UKIP as interfering but ignoring the other foreign people actually doing damage to Ireland.
Funnily enough the Conservatives, who are going to be the next UK government, said if Ireland votes no it will give the UK a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty. Whatever Ireland says has a massive impact on whether we are allowed to vote or not.
I don't know if you're aware of it or not but the Libertas "no" campaign was in fact the largest and best funded media campaign in the history of the Irish state.
Ha, Ireland receives billions for decades and then disagrees with a treaty making the EU more efficient, asking what's in it for them - celtic greed. Lisbon makes the Charter of Fundamental Rights binding in our legal system - benefits include:
• right of workers to information/ consultation at work
received billions for decades? are you on drugs? The EU hasnt even been around for decades. its just manifested itself from what was just a market agreement.
The people are asked do you agree with this treaty which is in fact a constitution and yet they have never been asked "Should your nation be in the EU?"
NOT ONE NATION HAS BEEN ASKED THAT!!!!! WHY? Because they know that the no votes in France, Holland and Ireland were in fact no votes to the EU as a hole.
Ireland will have less and less power over its future, and more importantly the people will have less and less say over their future.
Laws for "fairness" such as increasing the coperation tax to bring it into line with the rest of the EU wont be decided on by the Irish but rather bueaucrats who have nothing to do with Ireland will decide from a foriegn land.
Laws about how long people are allowed to work are already decided.
This takes away Irelands competitive edge, & civil liberties
To say that member states should vote yes just because of money they receive is nothing more than political bribery. But hey... The EU does a lot of that anyway! Just look at what the MEP's earn and their pention schemes not to mention all the perks of the job and the expenses scams they can pull! I wonder who pays for all that? I doubt you do! Oh no hang on its Britain! Paying £40 million a day into the EU! At that price we should own the EU!
the Irish people are no greedier than any other European people. The main concerns in this debate from the irish point of view are moral and military issues.
Great stuff Mick - doesn't hide the fact Ryanair have benefited, and will benefit further from the EU
I read the Treaty and wasn't the least bit surprised to find no hidden surprises - a boring but necessary document allowing the EU to move into the future as a much more efficient entity. No mention of taxes or minimum wage
This tiny nation of 4m is acting like a spoilt child! Its time to be a team member - ignore Sinn Fein and the other idiots.
Norway and Switzerland are outside the EU yet they have full trading rights with them. Cause theyre not member states they have to pay a small fee for the benifits but thats nothing like the taxes the rest of the countries have to pay.
Also im tired of our countries being called states. Were not states were countries.
Bureaucrats who arent involved with the people shouldnt decide their future. And decisions reguarding those people should at least be voted on!!!
Their non membership of the EU has nothing to do with their wealth. Lots of wealthy nations are not EU members, so are many poor ones. This is an irrelevant point.
Actually it has a lot to do with the EU. They are not member states but they get a lot of the benefits of member states without having to pay a penny. They have free trade agreements and receive money from the EU for projects. It's basically just a way of the EU bribing them to join.
All nations have treaties and cross border cooperation on various projects irrespective of their various affiliations. This is completely irrelevant in the current debate.
He calls the Irish government a quango(government body independant of government)
Yet its the European bureaucrats who are not voted for, that are the true quango. They get to make decisions over our lives and we dont even get to vote on their decisions.
Shouldnt it be the local people to decide over their future? Shouldnt the local people get a vote?
We pay europe millions yet have no say in how were governed.
There is one sole reason why this guy, possibly the most hated man in Ireland because of his arrogance and pricing problems, one reason he is pushing for a Yes vote - so the EU will approve his takeover attempts of Aer Lingus.
I am totally pro european, but this is the Lisbon Treaty, this has nothing to do with ending a business relationship with the EU.
I won't call you names davbyrne I'll leave that method of argument to you guys on the Yes side its really all you can do , because I've never heard one of you state even one benefit of the Lisbon treaty for the avarage Irish person. Can you ?
Go on call me another name, but dont answer the question whatever you do.
What did he say but avertise his business and say everybody else in the country's an ejit. IRELAND IS NOT GOING TO LEAVE THE EU. THE LISBON TREATY IS NOT ABOUT US LEAVING THE EU. We need to be part of the economic union with europe but we do not need a POLITCAL UNION with the EU. Stop letting arsehole's like O'Leary mislead you
I have been made unemployed due to the economic downturn. I guess I am one of the unemployable fckin headbangers. Mr.O'Leary, maybe you could give me a job as the grinning monkey for your right hand side. I will laugh at your hilarious comedy routine.
"The EU" are not forcing us to vote again. Our government has decided to hold a second referendum having obtained written guarantees adressing the major concerns of people who voted no in the last refendum.
What kind of a people do they think we are? Is it possible they do not realise that we shall never cease to persevere against them until they have been taught a lesson which they and the world will never forget.
Under the Nice Treaty, there should be less Commissioners than member states. So at least one member state would lose its Commissioner next year. No marks for guessing which one!!
So the majority here dislike Michael O'Leary! As for the Lisbon Treaty, the voters concerns have been acknowledged; how undemocratic is that? We can now focus on the real issue. A 'No' to Lisbon is a 'No' to improvements in the workings of the EU, as already agreed by the vast majority of its citizens. Focus on the issues with less of the personal invective. if you were the only family member blocking the improvement of your home, what kind of home life do you think you would have? Get real.
Has anybody else noticed that, not once did O'Leary mention anything about the Lisbon Treaty? Has he even read it? Does he know anything about it? The referendum isn't asking us to vote Yes or No to EUROPE, you ignorant, loudmouth, publicity-hungry, attention-seeking cretin. Even if we vote No, we'll still be part of Europe. Contrary to the scaremongering dishonest bullshit from the Yes campaigners, a No vote will merely result in maintaining the present status quo (i.e. the Nice Treaty)
Michael O'Leary is a Hypocrite. Here's what he said after last years referendum.
It seems that only in the European Union, Ireland and Zimbabwe you are forced to vote twice, The vote should be respected. It is the only democratic thing to do. Michael O'Leary, after last years referendum.
why did ya change your mind mick, did you get a guantee that you would be allowed to takeover Aer Lingus
Great advert for Ryanair and your 'gurls'. Also well done to your PR man there for holding a straight face at the 'effing headbangers' remark. But fair dues, you will do more for the 'yes' vote than many others so thank you! VOTE YES TO LISBON!
There is a worrying trend among people saying that Lisbon is undemocratic - in fact Lisbon gives the people of Europe more power to control what happens in the Parliament. Fair play to O'Leary - there are lots of other companies who know how vital Europe is to Ireland for jobs who are running YES campaigns!
Thanks Mick for the low fares and the straight talking. As someone who needs to travel back to Ireland regularly to be with family and friends, Ryanair sure as hell beats having to puke up on the ferry or cough up a fortune to fly, as they have already forced other airlines to compete. We have already shot ourselves in the foot in the last Referendum vote so lets not do it again, even if the Shinners are happily providing the bullets.
Ryanair wants to take over Aer Lingus - something blocked by the EU Commission before. What better way to takeover Aer Lingus than by sweet-talking the Commission by supporting the anti-democratic Lisbon Treaty. Also, the European Court of First Instance overturned a Commission ban on concessions to Ryanair to get them to use Charleroi airport in Belgium. Methinks there's more here than meets the eye....
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Oleary you cunt.Screwing everyone that travels with ryanair over.I want to pay to use your toilet ya prick.Voting NO to lisbon and so is Ireland so get used to it.
I am not going to fly with Ryanair ever again, for thinking we all are fools that need to be told what to vote. Why should a company tell me what to vote? He is clearly doing it because he sees profit there. The vote on Lisbon should be based on the welfare of ALL Irish, mainly it's workers, not on some rich man's interests.
Socialists and SF are there when worker's right are threatened, where is Ryanair then? Not fiving two fucks about them, and still making money.

1957Rotu 2 years ago
Lots of money to be made by betting on a no and getting your friends to vote no. NO is certain to be the verdict.
JollyRoger31 2 years ago
Jolly Roger - your comments are inaccurate. The EU has donated billions and continues to - the ECB is currently funding our bail out - we'd be like Iceland without euro membership. Clearly a no vote would be very damaging
Also, Its a condition of EU membership to abolish capital punishment. Ireland abolished it in 1990 and is party to a number of international agreements forbidding it - including Protocol 13 to the European Convention on Human Rights which forbids it even during time of war

If we extend the hole nation to the EU that scenario will become Lisbon, Brussels and Strasbourg rather than London.

If we vote no the the remainder of the EU will continue towards greater integration without us.
I suppose it would suit Britain to have it's largest trading partner thus isolated; this is really the only reason I can think of for the otherwise inexplicable British interest in this matter.
Hatetherapy 2 years ago
But France and Holland clearly do not want more integration. Neither do a lot of nations who have not had the vote. Many of our nations fought over any generations for independence and freedom. Now you want to give your independence and freedom up?
Surely those who died fighting for our freedom must be turning in their graves.
STOPTHEEU 2 years ago
France and Holland have already ratified the treaty. And who are these people who died for "our" freedom? Irish freedom was won from the British at great cost. The purpose of the European project is to prevent such conflicts happening again.
Hatetherapy 2 years ago
The important thing to remember is that EU membership is entirely voluntary. Any state can leave at any time. If Ireland votes no the rest of the EU will no doubt cary on towards greater integration without us.
Hatetherapy 2 years ago
Not when you consider the fact that Holland and France both voted no too. In Britain the poles show that given if given the referendum we would vote no too.
So what will be left of the EU if so many member states vote no to this? That is what the Euro-sheep fear!
God knows why because its not as if we are being asked "Do you want to be in the EU?" We'r being asked "Will you sign this without reading the small print?"
Surely only idiots will agree to that!
STOPTHEEU 2 years ago
We are being asked to amend our consitution to allow the Lisbon treaty to come into force. The full text of the treaty is freely available online for all to read. Which part of it do you object to?

People of Ireland are actually very intelligent even though many people joke about them being stupid. It's nothing but a racist myth.
When the referendum comes the people of Ireland will prove their intelligence with a big fat NO vote!

Ha, Ireland receives billions for decades and then disagrees with a treaty making the EU more efficient, asking what's in it for them - celtic greed. Lisbon makes the Charter of Fundamental Rights binding in our legal system - benefits include:
• right of workers to information/ consultation at work
• right to collective bargaining and action
• protection against unfair dismissal
• right to fair and just working conditions
• prohibits exploitation of younger workers.

Laws about how long people are allowed to work are already decided.

Get real.
