A samurai was an honorable warrior. Samurais followed a code of honor known as bushido. They we're often upper-class.

The ninja however, consisted mostly of lower-class people, which performed "dirty work" for samurais, like assassinating, spying and other things that would soil the samurai's honor.

The samurai were his private army, while the ninja he employed were his informants, and thus reported that which the samurai would not. Both had their uses, and both engaged in eachother's activities. Samurai could be used as assassins, or spies, but it was hard because of Bushido. Likewise, a ninja could openly be a samurai.

Both could be the other.

I personally waited for Thousand Swords since 2006, which is quite a long time. But the wait was definetely worth it! After tens by tens by tens listens I still get chills down my spine throughout the whole album, especially at the solo part of Of Honor.

My only problem with this being called samurai metal is that samurai refers more or less to a class of warrior within the society, I'd be inclined to term it japanese folk metal, as it seems a bit specific to say samurai when the musical style is more about the culture of the time, not just the warriors, if you get my meaning.

@TheGtrMaster I have to disagree. "Swashbuckle's" - Cruiseship Terror is pure thrash, and they are considered pirate metal. Viking and Celtic metal falls under folk metal until I find a band that doesn't thrive off epic battle victories (i.e. Ensiferum) and drinking while dancing to an accordion (more ensiferum or finntroll)

Anyway, I was looking at the tracklist of the upcoming album, and they've put this one right in the middle, with much faster & more energetic tracks in the start and at the ending. I think it may be risky, but who knows, maybe it'll work. Besides, the last song on the album ('Blade in the Snow') is still to be heard. We shall see.
