I don't think I've heard more power in note selection than when this guy solos, and I've heard em all, Larry Carlton, Pat Martino, Robben Ford, Satch, Gambale, Malmsteen, nobody bests this guy, not that it's a contest, but nobody's playing makes me want to practice and play more. Also one of the best guitar tones ever? what a combo.
what great tone just goes to show you kiddies if you work real hard and listen to your parents... seems as though i remember that he had a hard time geting the sound that he wanted for this album took him for ever to release it well gota love that sound kudos to leo fender and eric johnson what a team
the vox is not by mr. johnson! its by a great indian hindstani singer mr amit chatterjee..... i mean the intro of course! great song! thanx god for true musicians like mr johnson and amit ji !!!!!
.. Eric Johnson is one of the only three guitarist that has the title Best Overall Guitarist along with Steve Morse and Steve Howe.. Because of Eric's music, I appreciated clean tones and chord voicing more than ever.. He is indeed The Tone God from Texas.. His music always triggers creative juices in me..

-Pretty close. EJ meditates a couple of hours most days. (Check out "From My Heart" off of Bllom. ITs about meditation.
This song ( and the whole V.I. CD) are dedicated to EJ's fiance, who was murdered in NY right after AVM went platinum.
Venus Isle has always elicited cosmic visions in me. Thanks for putting these visions together with the galactic sounds of Eric's masterpiece Venus Isle. Spectacular!
sounds like eric likes foreign music as much as i do...some of that stuff over seas is just a wonder from god...thanks for posting this.....saves me money on cd's.....:D
Vai and Satch can shred, but Eric can shred beautifully, and sing at the same time. to me they're all good but I always pick Eric as my listening choice when I'm relaxing
also I saw a vid of eric playing the piano,,, that's amazing he sings, plays the piano, the guitar, and he's a great composser... he's such a great musician!!
Yes, a great album. My only complaint is that it lacks a little of the raw power of Ah Via Musicom. That is why when I hear a song from Venus Isle live it sounds so much better.
Yes this is in the second instructional video! ..he starts it with pinch harmonics live like the album..and he has done this Live! if ya go to his web site there is a bunch of his song lists posted! So Awesome! ..i believe he also has a snip of "All About You" on the dvd as well..like fifteen seconds lol..
Sucks to here about his wife. Why does something like that have to happen to such a cool guy. Though, if it hadn't, then this beautiful song wouldn't exist...
Simply beautiful, lyrically and, of course, guitar-wise.

He and his first wife did divorce, but no this was from fiance who he was with after that.
Yeah, I know the world thinks of EJ and immediately thinks of "Cliffs of Dover" and Guitar hero. I know most will disagree, but to me, Venue Isle is his best album of musicality and an artistic work. It was the last time the violin tone appeared on record too. I hope he brings it back.

Yes, I think the piece is bit EJ's catharsis for the loss.
There are so many references to it throughout the song,
-"she's just here to stay with us a while..";
-"She said 'Now its time to go, this is not my home', and she said her goodbyes and blasted off to the stars";
-"I'll be seing you" (as in re-incarnation or the afterlife)
I have also always seen "Battle We have Won", as being about letting go of losing her, and figuring out a way to move on without her. I've been there.
