  • I know 589/10,00chords in the guitar.

  • This is the same progresstion of sum41 with me, just what I was looking for,, nicer ways to play those chords thank you so much :)

  • Whit this chord you can play "Always" by Bon Jovi :)

  • chords for sister golden hair?

the first example reminded me of that

  • chords for sister golden hair?

  • made a great song from this progression, different strum pattern n accents tho. thanks man.

  • Nice lesson. Good to know about suspending chords.

  • Nice lesson, very informative. Don't know which is harder, playing the chords or getting the strumming pattern right! I can get the squeaky strings when I slide up and down the neck tho' ( or are they optional ! ) Many thanks loved it.

  • o.o

  • Or just play C#m as x46600, A as x02200, E as 022100 (normal) and B as x24400.

Mix them up and it's sounds lovely.

  • If you had fret markers on your guitar it would be easier to keep up with the neck position of your chords

  • I don't really understand exactly what a chord progress or the purpose of it is? I have a basic understanding that it is a series of chords used to establish tonality, however, does that providing I have identified the tonic key I can through together a few chords and that would be a chord progression technically? or is it a preset series of chords that are part of a scale? thanks

  • WOW!!! This was amazing!! I knew all the chords before so it makes it a lot easier. Thank you for this awesome video! :)

  • I really appreciate him too

  • i hate my pinky!!

  • This will teach me "Why wheatly why?".:)

  • KISS. Keep it simple stupid. I like the way Peter breaks it down. Good lesson for those of us who just want some satisfaction playing

  • Uh, has anyone mentioned Journey- Don't Stop Believing? haha

  • boston - peace of mind

  • this dude is godlike and he shows you the laymans, He is the best

  • Agree, the best Guitar instructions and lessons anywhere on line.HE is the BEST guitar teacher.

  • this is bad ass brah, it helped me out a lot!

  • thanks so much, i think once i buy my guitar thats not a cheapy, this would sounds great. Any suggestions on a goo guitar?

  • @RelientKatey i just bought a seagull cedar s6. For less than $400 sounds great. Check out the seagull line or simon and patrick.

  • isnt that H7? i think that B is barred on the 1st fret

  • This isn't a B11 chord. It's a B add 11. I never find this chord sounds right played with the open E 6th string. The only way I've ever played it this way is when using this E as a drone note for all four of these chords, otherwise it's much better to sound the B on the 7th fret.

  • thank you so much ... i love music :) :) peace x

  • This is SO wonderfully helpful. One of my favourite songs, "Follow me back into the sun," by The Rescues is now playable for me. Brilliant. Thank you! brendan

  • this sounds really great! ^_^ ima learn this.

  • great video. Thanks. Mind teaching me how to play man in the mirror? Thanks

  • Kinda sounds a little like the beginning of "Sister Golden Hair" by America. Great lesson, mate! Ta! :D)

  • Thanks man, big help :)

  • oh hey its hero of war! lol

  • nice lesson thanks for taking the time.

  • it sounds so awesome when you put it together.. learning it is so difficult though!!

  • B chord is a Bitch!!!!

  • Hi, I've recently started playing guitar (3 weeks) and the first song I wanted to learn to play and sing is "Rise Against - Hero of War", the Chorus of which has the exact same chord progression as this. Actually the whole song only has those 4 chords plus G#m. I've been having a bit of trouble making the B bar chord so knowing I can substitute these alternate A and B chords is very helpful. Thank you very much for this video. I'll subscribe and keep learning :)

  • thanks dude it help me

  • these are the chords u need to play hey soul sister... thanks a bunches!

  • Thanks a bunch!

  • I think this is a good lesson in explaining useful ideas without extra complexity that can be added later, therefore a great lesson for novices, and reminders for experienced players as well.

  • 0.57- the chords you are gonna use

    2.39 - strum pattern, D Du R R into D r UdUdU R= quarter rest r= eight rest

4.00 - dressing up the chords a little.

    5.52 - all together :)

  • sounds like 21 guns ahah

  • Wow, Peter Vogl is the only person that I've found on the internet who has actually helped me learn how to play. I take the lessons that I've found from him, as well as the books and CD's he has out, play, and then use that knowledge when I'm getting lessons or help from other people.

These are by far the best lessons that I've found on yutube/internet.

  • nice

  • stereo love chords

  • 21 guns, love the way you lie, apologize, bad romance, list goes on and on

  • @LukeRobinson10 with me

  • love it

  • awesome chord progression

  • Thanks for the lesson.. Helped me out alot!

  • hi my name is peter voguel and i have an amazing mullet.

  • @mrstaylorlautner151 hello my name is peter voguel and i approve this mullet hahah

  • slow dancing in a burning room

  • thank you so much! I came here on Youtube today to find a chord progression for a song I want to write to give me enspiratoin and this did! Also, these are just great chords to know!

  • is this me or the begining is familiar with green day? 21 guns..

  • your playing the guitar in a wrong way, your putting your fingers on the metal bars!!!!

  • @jasonkiller001 actually its right cause there aresome chords in which u have to stretch your fingers ,it is not on the metal bars but very close to it

  • i think i just found my new guitar tutor.

  • great tutorial! the step by step portrayal makes it easy to follow. will definitely check out some other lessons of yours!

    thanks again!

  • you make it look so easy......

  • top bender.

  • Great teaching style. Good clear camera work. This upload helped alot. Been playing 9 months and need all the help i can get. Its all about creating choices,Thanks.

  • Wow you're great! How long have you been playing?

  • this sounds like 21 guns from green day, but in other key

  • I want to be a street performer and in doing so I have a couple questions about progressions.(you might of mentioned it in the video but I have no sound)

1: why can I can never find strumming patterns, people told me i'm suppose to make it up but if a 1000 songs use the same progression so 1234 will get boring on all the songs and if people stand there to long they might notice the progressions.

  • thanks! great tutorial!

  • yr assowme! :) thankyou

  • @Nicole4412 There's hundreds of songs that use this type of chord progression, but in a different key.

  • SPARKS FLY BY T SWIFT :D THANKS

  • this was so helpful thank you so much :) x

  • When I first started playing I couldn't come close to bar chords like this, but after a few years I feel I can play every chord out there. Just gotta practice and don't hurt yourself. Also if you can't play this, try leaving out the A string and it should help you out until you can bar all the frets.

  • What guitar does he have?

  • Everyone of you needs to shut the heck up if you're bashing this dude. I'm absolutely grateful to him, cuz now I FINALLY know how to play C#m, as no one was able to show me it, without making things overly complicated. For those of you who think that playing guitar has to systematic... I want you to know that I think you're shallow. Music is supposed to come from the heart... Give it too many limitations and there's no soul. Thank you beefcakejcc. This video helped me.

  • @ZillieZephyr what your saying is absolutely true man i believe that 100 percent man

  • @ZillieZephyr well said! when i compose music i dont do all the how many beats in a bar, chord progression and shit like that, i just play what feels right :) x

  • Theory is there for a reason. People haven't sat down for thousands of years and worked this out to make music boring. One you know it all well, there really are very few limitations. No one ever got anywhere without paying it any attention, don't be naive.

  • @Skepsis0Metal who asked you? and uhhh i know, i took music gcse, and play the cello piano, and guitar, i just meant, if i'm composing, those things arent the things i think about. dont be a dick.

  • If I was being a dick, I would have insulted you. But to say you don't pay attention to things you've learned is naive. GCSE isn't a very high qualification to show off about. I've done my grade 7 theory exam, and I sure as hell don't use all that knowledge, but if your compositions don't follow structure, phrasing and correct key usage...they just aren't going to sound good. That's not dickish, that's fact. A helpful one too.

  • @Skepsis0Metal Well maybe i couldnt be arsed to take music for a level. and i've got grades 8 in piano and cello and 6 in guitar. ok i was being a bit harsh calling you a dick. but nobody calls me naive or insults my music knowledge. EVER. so dont you get all dicky and up your own arse about it. the sun dont revolve around you sunshine. and i've checked your channel out. and that is NOT music.

  • Not naive? Musical knowledge? Up my own arse? And then to call something "not music"? I almost started to take you seriously for a second there. The second you abuse your right to have an opinion, you lose all credibility. I could also look at your channel, but I won't. I'd be willing to bet I'd find something on there that classifies as "electronic music", which technically isn't music, but seeing as it uses musical knowledge; I'd respect it. That's where mature and naive differ. Sorry to say

  • @Skepsis0Metal Ok 1) cba to argue on youtube

    2) I dont like shit like lady gaga (i only like her acoustic performances)

    3) I listen to music like within temptation, you me at six, red jumpsuit apparatus, my chemical romance, flyleaf and evanescence - so dont judge

    4) sorry about "dissing" your music taste, i hate it when people do it to me

    5) Dont you dare call me fucking naive

    6) you can NEVER abuse your right to have an opinion. its God given, and u should always be allwd 2 show it

  • @Coolcat233 After reading #2, you're already awesome lol I'm trying to learn to play guitar so that I can play "Your Guardian Angel" for my ex on Valentine's Day because me and him both love that song. RJA forever!!!!! :))))

  • @peanutd22 AWESOME! I cant work out your gender from your name but if a guy sang that song to me i think i would cry :') x

  • @peanutd22 MY BAD! just read your message properly. You're a gal xx

  • @ZillieZephyr Sir,

You are right and you are wrong. You are right to be angry at anyone who gives you attitude about your choices. Some of these people may be motivated many any number of destructive motives.

You may be criticizing others who can enhance your own experiences & objectives.

It is not merely about "heart vs systems." It's about collaboration, & or learning form others. If you can't explain what you are doing & why, you can't teach it to others nor can you learn more from others.

  • @ZillieZephyr Therefore defend what you know has value to you, but open your mind to any ideas, no matter what their sources or intentions. Bad intentions can only hurt you when you allow it. Those "bad" people may nonetheless be revealing something new to you. You can accept this new information without compromising your dignity. So don't tolerate crap from people, but try to understand that communication requires explanations, & diverse understanding of the same apparent themes & will pay off.

  • i found this uesless and hard to understand soz xx

  • Thanks a lot for the amazing lesson! You make it so easy!

  • nice nice

  • U are so good..... too late to find out this good video!

  • Woohoo it's like a tutorial of 21 guns I already got it!

  • I came up with the other day. Pretty common chord progression but I was surprised to find this video.

  • I love your substitue chord videos. Chris

  • I Blink way more than that

  • @rebecka217 try to put your pointing finger on the lightest string then go up the ladder and strengthen your finger by pinning down 2 strings at a time, then 3 then 4, until you can do 6 strings.

at the end of the week you'll develop stronger fingers, just remember playing the guitar is not as fast as you can make instant coffee ;)

  • 21 Guns - Green Day

  • nice mullet

  • strumming for Aadd9 and B11 is D DU UDU and not D UDUDU,,,,,did i got it r8?plz respond.

  • @sharik8999 exactly what i thought

  • C#m is fucking impossible. Gosh, I hate guitar!!

  • @rebecka217 Keep at it and it'll get a lot easier. Don't give up.

  • @rebecka217 yes it is so hard..but dont give up im not we will get it right

  • Idol!!! :)

  • "but today tonight tomorrow it makes me laugh"

    LMAO CLOSED CAPTIONING FTW

  • that was a classical guitar you cheapscape! you'd never be able to hit a b or c#m that easily, shame making people everywhere wonder why they can't play like you!

  • Everyone sure has an opinion about how to learn guitar. First off, you are watching this so you can learn. Peter is the teacher for a reason. He never says this is the beginning place.

  • This sounds like Apologize one republic...thanks for the video..:)

  • thx alot my friend... u rso good... thx so much and keep it up...

  • i have been playing for about 3 months, and i love that colbie caillate song i should have told you and i have been trying to learn it and i stumble up on this video its a easy way to play it with these cords thx

  • Same chords as lord of the rings :P

  • sounds similar to "1, 5, 6, 4"

but arranged differently maybe "6, 4, 1, 5" but set in the Key of E.

you can also do it in C as: Am - F - C - G and so on I guess.

  • @dan0258520 Yes that is correct, its the variant that changes slightly

  • sounds like "21 guns"

  • Awesome!

  • What song is this chord progression in?

  • @TheOldRockband A lot of songs

  • kids by mgmt. identical rhythm to

  • "the green day progression"

  • Thank you for making this video, that is a great chord progression to learn, and good alternate chord choices...keep 'em comming.

  • very pretty progression. Thank you for this.

  • Sounds like this dude is trying to teach a version of America's "Sister Golden Hair"

  • They are barre chords. There are lessons on youtube about them.

  • what exactly do you mean?

  • ur index is used for the bar... u just push it down on all strings (the fret depends on which chord ur playing). if ur not used to bar chords, itll seem like you are pushing really hard but as you get better with them, itll be easier and more comfortable

  • Because your index finger has to make the root note of the B chord (which obviously is B), otherwise it'd be an inversion, and that note is on the second fret of the 5th string. He'll either be muting the 6th string or not hitting it at all.

  • you're an awesome teacher. thanks so much ^^

  • fourth chord a B11 ? ... mhhh not so shure

    lest's look at the note of that chord : F# B D# B E

He said different name for that chord but it is defenetively not a B11 because if B is the root you would have the major 3rd and the 11th at the same time ( D# and E ) ... not good !!! very not good !

It is more a F#13sus4 ( the 9 not being played ) ... wich is close to B11 i have to say !

    So the new chord progression would be 1 - 6 - 3 - 4 ( instead of the original 1 - 6 - 3 - 7 )

  • nice !!!

  • bravo

  • gr8

  • is that the same set of chords as in We should always be together bny Billy Goodrum?

  • hey pete, simple lesson but bloody excellent stuff, your a great teacher

    - keep up the good work

    chur!

  • the a add 9 is a really nice chord. i didn't know that actually. Is the song in the Key of E?

  • Well, it's in C# minor, which is actually the same as E major.

  • im trying to learn chord progression theory. but it kind of makes sense. so the progression in C# minor would be 1 6 7 3 progression? i understand how the major scales work with chord progressions. the 1 4 5 are major chords and 2 3 6 are the minor chords. how would chord progressions work in a minor scale though? would it be the opposite? id appreciate the help

  • i remember this guy when i was a kid and he had a website where i frequently went on. Although at the time i hated him cus i could not do barr chords.lol

  • Wow, nice. I've been playing for some years now. and this progression sounds so good. Gotta go look some more up.

  • to help those beginners out there, you'd think at the beginning of the video he would say "this is a chord progression in the key of E."

  • perfection...thank u!

  • nice sound and all but you dont have to treat the viewers who are beginers like there babys, you took three out of five minuites just explaining everything

  • wow he blinks alot x-x

  • kool observation

  • sounds like 21 guns lol

  • It's the same chord progression for 21 Guns, up by a key or two.

  • I thought u would tell us WHY u use those chords. ppl trust me. iv been playing for 2 years. all i did was play chords from tabs but i never understood why u would use those particular chords in a song. THE BEST WAY TO START GUITAR IS BY LEARNING SCALES, FOLLOWED BY CHORD SCALES.

  • I'm not sure he ever said it was for starting guitarists,

and, I think he's showing people chords so that they can

    strengthen their fingers.

  • i cant agree with u more man. i started with chords, once i learned scales i improved dramatically.

  • @sooshyiskool totally i started playing my own melodies, then started learning what chords to place with them

  • @sooshyiskool

Yes, that is true, learning scales is handy. Like, if you want to make a song that follows a certain scale, like maybe A-harmonic minor, all the chords you can use are found at the scale. :)

  • @sooshyiskool No it isn't. When you start learning guitar you don't want to jump directly to scales. It will take away the fun out of guitar and many more will quit.

  • @TheArt1Q It is actually easier for beginners to play just notes rather than mashing your fingers in to a chord because remember you are also building the skills to use your fingers independantly and the ability to move them the way you neeed to.

If you do what my teacher did and play songs with scales (Black Dog sticks out in my mind for a pentatonic scale) it is alot of fun.

  • @sooshyiskool I would agree, I have been playing for 5 or 6 years in case you're wondering, and that is how I learned scales then I practiced it with songs that my teacher picked that had the scales I was playing (this just made it more fun and more of a challenge to play it with different notes and put it with songs), then I started adding in open chords then bar chords.

  • @sooshyiskool I disagree, for one if you have been playing for 3 years you shouldnt be stating the best way to learn. I found that learning scales too much gives you too many boxes.

  • @sooshyiskool Well I've been playing for 19 years and I found the best way was to learn the basic open chords such as D, G, A, E, Am, C, F etc. Then learn the chord progressions that you'd use for the various keys as well as learn some basic bar chords such as Bm, F#m etc.

This guy has placed a very good tutorial on here, private tution wouldn't be as free as this.

  • nice lesson, thanks. is there a rule for the sort of chords like the B '11' (I'm an intermediate player, I do know the other chords)? nice accent btw.

  • if u slow down the strumming u will get the song zombie by the cranberrys
