  • Love love love love LOVELOVELOVELOVELOVELOVELOVE HUGO!!!!!

    Btw, you pronounced Asa wrong...

  • i think it was much better than what you both say it to be. i loved it.

  • "...And the Academy Award for Best Picture of 2011 is... HUGO!!!!!!!!!!!" Just practicing. I love this movie! I actually saw this movie thanks to your review!

  • @RateTheMovie It'll most likely be the gimmicky "The Artist" film that wins Best Picture, sadly.

  • @mattjames2111 Hopefully the 2010 Oscars will repeat itself. Everyone thought Avatar will win, and it didn't. Now everyone thinks The Artist will win, but, Hugo might win

  • I loved this movie. But i'm interested in how movies started and stuff.

  • I'm a kid and I loved this movie. Then again, my favorite movie of all time is Shawshank Redemption

  • i love this movie.

  • I loved it. Saw it today :)

The 3D effect as said is really worth it. A lot stronger than I've seen on a lot of films which made it look so much better!

  • It is her Godfather not Grandfather

  • Awesome movie

  • This should get nominated for awards for sure. I didn't see it in 3D but, when it comes out on Blu-Ray I'll pick it up in 3D

  • I personally loved Hugo. Not a kids movie by any means but its a great one for film lovers like the Schmoes said:D

  • i wanted to see this moie alot and arthur christmas too i saw the muppets and really liked it!

Im just mad that Twighlight made more money than all of those combined

    whats WRONG with people

  • Not a kids movie, at all. I think 95% of kids will get bored; heck even my family got bored. I thought it did several things well like art direction, acting, etc., but there are some problems in the plot. I liked the tie to old, silent movies but I really didn't care what happened in the end. I didn't care about the characters. Still a good movie though, and each day I think about it, I respect it more. 7/10.

  • The most boring and most shittiest movie I have ever seen in my life.

  • Save your lives and avoid this movie at even the highest cost, strongly consider even being in debt up to $170million in a desperate attempt to escape seeing this utterly NONEXISTENT, PAINFUL, AWFUL and frankly UNNECESSARY HUGO!

  • I thought this was a great movie, but bringing my family along wasn't such a good idea. They were unhappy with the buildup and they didn't really care for the message of the film.

  • @RachelRocker4Ever Ikr? it's not supposed to be "I found this old movie and now I can unlock the secrets of the world" or: "this automaton holds great power".

  • Hooray for 20k subscribers!!

  • i read the book for this the book was really good

  • Amazing! Director Martin Scorsese is an artist, extraordinaire. And the cinematography by Robert Richardson is breathtaking!

  • lol Tim Duncan sucks ass

  • Wait... did Christian just imply that Austin Powers is a bad movie? disappointing

  • I saw this movie a few hours ago and I gotta say it was really good. Beautifully shot and well acted. Asa Butterfield really blew me away with his performance. He's so talented to be so young. Not to mention, it was good to see Ben Kingsley in a decent movie for once. He's an awesome actor and deserves more roles like this.

This was a beautiful love letter to movies and their origins. I see your 4 - 4.1 Schmoes and I raise you a Schmoe!

  • Shit, I loved this movie so much. Its my favourite movie of the year. I was surprised to that it wasn't animated or magical. I thought the movie would be fantastical. I had no idea it would weave history in there. 5/5 Schmoes.

  • I definitely agree with what you guys said about it not REALLY being a kids movie. As a film buff, I thoroughly enjoyed "Hugo," but with Muppets being out at the same time I definitely think it should not be the first movie parents decide to take their kids to if they want to keep their children happy!

  • Read the book! It is a novel full of pictures. Don't be discouraged by the size. The pictures make it a quick read. Brilliant and award winning! So excited for the movie! I'll definitely take your advice in the 3D.

  • the film was awsome great to look at :)

  • I wasn't very impressed by the 3D but the movie just inspired me!! It made the desire to watch, act and make good movies reign in my head.

  • my ad was the one with the creepy green elf

  • I think love of Scorsese and love of cinema may be making you biased. I found this movie very dull. I would say if there is one word to describe this film it would be monotonous. It was beautifully shot. 3D was good but I would not recommend it. The story was underwhelming. I'm very surprised you guys rated it this high. By the way, congratulations on the 20,000. I'm sure it's just the beginning of much more to come.

  • Most boring movie ever. I wanted to sleep.

  • The purplish star effect thingy you guys do is very Gay Tony esc, I like it.

  • Ditto to EVERYTHING you guys said, including my thinking it was an animated film when I walked in - knew nothing about it, besides the high Rotten Tomatoes rating and Scorcese. Wish he'd cut out about 20 minutes of drag and that last voice-over-explained history by Kingsley's character, and I think it would expand the audience for this movie by a hundred-fold

  • I read the book and it was kind like you know eh but that might've also been because I had just finished reading deathly hallows for the 1st time to but I think I may see it because of this review because I'm a huge film buff and the visuals look awesome. At first I thought it was supposed to be animated but like live action at the same time like a christmas carol but once I figured out it was live action i was amazed. Plus mordred from Merlin is in it how awesome is that :D

  • Congrats on the subscribers *salute*.

  • 20,000 subs and 5,000 views on this vid, youtube can be a sad place

  • Actually theres not 20,000 eyes watching theres 40,000 eyes watching because everyone has two eyes that make you any more nervous?

  • I think 'Hugo' was a masterpiece. I've only seen 80 movies from 2011 so far, but Hugo was one of the 3 movies I've given a 10/10 this year. The others were 'Drive' and 'Poetry'.

  • I wasn't bored at all during this film (: I guess it really depends on your interests.

  • In the immortal words of Ali G: Scorsese directing a 3D film? “Nuff said”.

  • Thought this film was absolutely FANTASTIC! Everything about it was so dazzling and 3D was just one of the best I've ever seen. Martin did an amazing job directing it by having these just beautiful shots that really makes the 3D even more worth it. Acting was fantastic and it's right up there with "Super 8" for best movie of the year. Oh, and it was also very loyal to the book. I don't think they changed anything from the book, actually. I was upset there wasn't a big audience at the theater.

  • Fucking loved this movie.

But I don't think it's perfect by any stretch of the imagination (trust me I know about stretching the imagination), nor is there any real reason for it to be shown in film class. People said that about Rise of the Apes too. I'm correct in saying Film School doesn't last for 20 years, right?

  • I am seeing Hugo tomorrow but I still really wanna see The Muppets and Arthur Christmas but Hugo is the top of my list.

  • great movie i actually really want to see this, keep it up guys

    your boy, Will

  • 20,000 chasing jeremy jhans

  • Took my little sister, she's 14, she was kind of bored. Definitely not a kids movie. And I found it kind of boring myself. Although the visuals were spectacular.

  • Looks like a brilliant hommage to Melies (some shots are inspired in the trailer). :)

  • why cant they make 3D glasses that dont ruin the color of the films???

  • @SpiderFan3 Give it a few years. Eventually we'll have 3D that has no down sides.

Of course because it works so well right now it may take a bit to be updated.

  • SCHMOE-VILLE!! \m/

  • Kids movie? This doesn't look like a kids movie, i can see even adults being terrible bored of this lol.

  • seems a bit like a late harry potter spin off

  • @DJGOLFVR6 Johnny Depp produced the move. I heard he was in like a second of the movie but I didn't catch him :/

  • I have to wait until fucking April until I can see it here in Iceland, which sucks.

  • @BlazeTheMovieFan people live in iceland????

  • I didnt really get the whole side story with the dog and Harry Potters uncle Everytime they came on the screen i forgot about them. I was like "oh yeah them!" They were not needed until the last 25 minutes.

  • I am so pumped to see this... when it comes out in Australia...when i'm in Japan..

  • how was johnny depp?

  • @DJGOLFVR6 Not in this movie

  • @schmoesknow WHAT? I remember there was a news and still prod pic of it a while back that he was in it! did they cut it?

  • @schmoesknow Actually, guys, Johnny Depp played M. Rouleau. He also produced the movie.

  • @schmoesknow Yes he was. He was in the band. He was one of the musicians.

  • @schmoesknow I think he made a cameo in it, cause I could of swore one of the musicians playing looked like johnny depp.

  • @DJGOLFVR6 Johnny Depp Produced it

  • @DJGOLFVR6 he produced it ,

  • @DJGOLFVR6 He produced it.

  • @DJGOLFVR6 hes a producer

  • Just got back from seeing it and it's not a masterpiece. Reminded me of Big Fish. The story is really slow, so don't go in looking for action. I don't know why it's getting such high ratings. I was looking for more magicalness and it just wasn't there.

  • This movie was sooooo boring!!!! Other then the visuals I can't imagine anyone liking this film.

  • Congratulations on 20,000 but MORE IMPORTANTLY, the baby! whoa! I had read the book (check it out, everyone - it's fantastic, such a visual experience) but the trailer looked like it was going to a mere kids movie. so glad it didn't disappoint. Wow. Scorsese used 3-D for what it was made for and it was such a beautiful movie. Got a bit of everything: mystery, heart, magic, love, etc. It showed the wonder of film-making and I think it's one of the best 3-D movies I've seen.

  • Awesome review guys and contratz on your 20 thousand subscribers! I was worried about this film when I watched the first trailer but the second was when iI released that Martin Scorsese has done it again and Kristian you're going to be a great Dad, congratulations again guys!

  • I didn't think it was slow at all, it just wasn't like an epic adventure family film, like narnia. But I think there's more to it than love for film making, there is a lot about questioning one's place in the world, and that really appeals to everyone with heart. Maybe not for small kids, but I think everyone 10 and above should give it a try.

  • 20000? I don't even think you had 1000 when i subbed. Congratulations guys! Keep up the great work.

  • Who else thought: "Good moaning." when Sascha Baron Cohen popped up?

  • Congratulations guys, you've earned it.

  • after your review, this movie is my number 2 must see kids movie. number 1 is arthur christmas. it seems more entertaining to me. and congrats on 20k subscribers and to kristian on the expecting baby. keep up the good work

  • 20K! Proud of you guys, it looks like the opposite of The Room.

  • It was exactly like I thought it would be, standard kids movie. I mean it was good, well made and all that, but nothing significant. Well, glad Scorsese got it out of his system, now he can get back to those adults films we all love so much. 3 / 5 schmoes. Oh, and you sooo do not need to see this in 3D. This will be the last film I ever see in 3D. It adds nothing to the experience, the glasses just dim the color. Go see it in 2D!

  • @grindhouse141 We disagree once again Grindhouse! You are our arch nemesis that we love!

  • @grindhouse141 I agree.

  • @grindhouse141 It was NOT your standard kids movie.

  • @greenflame157 It was definitely way better than most, but still.

  • Congrats to the 20K subs, of which I'm one (of course). Entertaining AND good reviews. For free! Keep up the good work. I certainly want to see this film, slow or not!

  • 20,000 subs. Congratulations fellas. Love you two & what ya do here. You can expect a thumbs up on every video from this guy.

  • Oh please, Christopher Lee was Sarumon and Dracula long before Count Dookie.

  • Im really interested in seeing this. Great review!

  • Schmoeville Population 20,000. Congratz guys! Great review as well!

  • Hugo doesnt look that good to me so i will stick with Muppets and Arthur Christmas

  • I may see this sometime and the ending was cute.

  • Congrats on hitting that 20K mark! I got a chance to see this one too - hadn't read the book or really knew it was somewhat based on a real person so I was honestly surprised by the direction the movie went. How do you figure out what can be discussed in your reviews without going too "Spoiler-y"?

  • Great review, i was interested for this when i saw the trailer in front of Harry Potter. Even more exited because of these rave reviews. And Congrats on the Baby Kristian!!!!

  • Until I saw the first review I thought this was animated too

  • i think this movie's audiance are adults who are kids at heart or in touch with their inner child. i wanna see it :3

  • Tim Duncan!!!!!

  • We wont get it in Norway until 20th of January. But I'll definitely watch it then!

  • i am a schmoevilian -_-

  • OK picture the ten thousand orks marching on helms deep.....now DOUBLE it, thats how many people watch this channel

  • its been nine months already? nice! baby girl or baby boy?

  • @schmoesknow So the kid that is in this movie was just picked to be Ender for the long awaited Enders Game movie. For as much trouble as Orson has gone to make the movie as close to the book as possible with all his delays in production, i hope it turns out well.

  • Schmoe ville will get bigger! That's what she said?

  • This is also based off of a book so fans of the book will probably see it, too.

  • this trailer looks so boring/terrible. i hope you guys are right about this.

  • I thought it was animated too, must be the name 'hugo'?

  • Congrats on 20.000 subs, that's unbelievable, and so deserved! And congratz Kristian! Great review,do you think this movie can be nominated for best picture?

  • hey if that guy is not going to do reviews soon, than you should have a guest youtube host - Chris, Jeremy or some hot chick that likes movies

  • I'm so excited for this movie. Scorsese is my favorite director. Congrats and on the subs and the little Schmoe!

  • mazal tov on 20,000 subscribers i always enjoy ur videos:)

  • congrats on 20,000

  • Cant wait now! 4/5 Pretty Good Congrats on the baby........

  • Is the 3D better then avatar? Great review

  • u know a movie has got to be good when it has gandhi in it

  • I am seeing Hugo for sure, and probably before Arthur Christmas

  • I remmeber reading the book and loving it and being hyped when i heard it was becoming a movie,. then i saw the trailer and wasdisappointed. Now after your review along with chris stuckman I can go in and be thrilled! Oh and CONGRATS ON 20000!

  • This sounds so good. But I don't have any interest in seeing this. Idk why?

  • Hm, two revolutionary films taking place in France, Hugo and Beauty and the Beast... Is there a connection?

  • Interesting review. From the trailer, I thought it was a total kids movie. If its not, it should have been portrayed in a different way in the trailers then...

  • I wanted to see this more than the muppets and arthur chirstmas......but my theater opted out of getting this one for some reason. I really wanted to see it in 3D. I am a huge movie buff. Do you think it is worth a 45 minute drive to the next theater that has it in 3D?

  • Slow ha....? Well...I think i can do slow. I did watch Synechdoche, New York and managed to stay awake And to keep my brain cells intact so i guess i can watch Hugo without the fear of getting bored. So... My list for movies to watch is 1) Arthur Christmas 2) Hugo 3) Muppet Show....

  • congrats and good luck with the baby mr.harloff...this was a great film! i was lucky enough to catch a screening last night..but im really lookign forward to seeing arthur christmas

  • Congratulations on both the baby and the 20,000. As for "children's movies," it's between this one and "The Adventures of Tin Tin," far as I'm concerned. A Scorsese film and two Spielbergs? Now, THAT'S Christmas!

  • Great review, congrats on 20,000 subs guys and the baby Kristian. I'm seeing this one later in the week and Arthur Christmas and The Muppets tommorow it isn't really by choice but the more i hear about Hugo the more I want to see it.

  • This looks amazing. Scorsese is amazing.

  • Score-says-e*

  • Yeah reviews before babies, thats my moto. Great review. Congrats on the 20,000 subs. HAHA and a baby? :)

  • @schmoesknow I personally thought The Departed was very overrated.

    What about you guys?

  • Woah. A non-animated 3D movie that actually has good 3D? This movie is a must see then, you don't get too many of those lol. But I've been waiting for this review cause I've been torn over seeing this movie cause it does look a little slow from the trailer. But if it's a movie buff's movie then it must be worth seeing :)

  • i think ill see hugo first just to make sure i catch it before it leaves the theatre but ill definitely be seein muppets and arthur christmas as well. This week is such a good week for family films! and congrats on the 20k subs. you guys deserve every one!

  • Congrats on 20,000 subscribers! You guys do a great job! You always have new content! Very entertaining! I think Hugo, and Arthur Christmas are my 2 picks for this weekend!

  • I'm REALLY into it now n frm ur review n I'm Hoping its a great movie...I am a cinema lover soo I'll most likely will Really be into it...

  • I really wanted to see this movie and was debating on either going to the movies or waiting for rental. But I'll go to the movies just for the 3-D thanks.

  • @schmoesknow imma watch arthur christmas first im intrigued by your review...imma watch this next...CONGRATULATIONS ON HITTING 2K DUDES! AND CONGRATULATIONS WITH THE BABY KRISTIAN! one more thing, damn kristian you are so damn lucky to be in one room with 2 hot women sackhoff and reitman.

  • I was planning on Muppets, but you guys have convinced me on seeing Arthur Christmas AND now Hugo as well. Good thing this is a four day weekend, cause I've got some good movies to enjoy.

  • @IamSnoogans It is a GREAT weekend for movies!

  • Actually he's name is: A-Sa. Say it with me. A-Sa. Not Ah-Sa. Besides that, great review. I'll check it out this thanksgiving.

  • @hyola We screw up names royally, kind of our thing

  • @christianfilmer1500 I really enjoyed tron it was a fun film,I haven't seen Hugo yet, avatar was only eye candy, and Alice was just horrible,I don't care how cool it was,I hated it

  • Best Films in 3D:

    Avatar

    Tron Legacy

    Hugo

    and maybe Alice in Wonderland

  • @christianfilmer1500 There are a lot of 3D animation that is cool but if you mean Live Action then yes I agree and even though it was farts on a platter, Transformers 3 had good 3D if anything

  • @schmoesknow yeah,I was speaking to Live action films:)

ahh yes TF3....haven't seen it yet but I do remember it was suppose to have GREAT 3D!

any film that is filmed in 3D is most likely going to be better than ANYTHING converted:)

  • I can remember a time when you guys had less than 2,000. It's been a great couple years. (It's been a couple years, right?)

  • @thebeeboy It's been 3 man, flies by. Thanks for being with us for so long!

  • congrat's on 20,000.congrat's on the baby.

    enjoyed the video as always.

  • @BoooRatt I get it

  • @schmoesknow Thank you.

  • 20,000? Should be 200,000 before you know it!

  • @ozzstriker101 I like the way you think!

  • You guys only have 20k subs? I'm not watching you guys anymore... unless you post another review.

  • @noelnthaly Ha, well it is a slow week. Box Office Sunday, a Podcast and then the next review will be Tailor Tinker Soldier Spy next Thursday

  • Congrats on 20,000 subscribers, guys! You deserve a hundred times more. I love your reviews!

  • Really Want To see this over the holidays

  • @mpianozak96 Let us know if you dig it!

  • Seems like all the good family movies get crammed in close to the christmas season.

Cool review, grats on the 20k subs, and the procreation thing!

  • @mrebyers Ha thanks!

  • I do not care for kids movies...... but it is Martin Scorsese! I feel I have to watch this even though I'm not particularly interested in the story.

    D.A. of Schmoeville

  • @grindhouse141 Yeah I don't know if I would call this a "kids" movie to be completely honest, more of a filmmaker's movie, I feel you are going to love it grindhouse

  • Arthur Christmas, 94%, Hugo, 94%, The Muppets, 100% GOD THIS IS A GREAT WEEK! Going to the Muppets tomorrow! :D

  • @jkolness1994 Please let us know on each of the reviews what you thought of each!

  • congrats!
