If we stop people from seeing them there will be no more income for the breeding programmes. There should be fewer people in the enclosure at a time, and more distance between them and the animals.

This is so cruel. A silverback should have at the very least a large natural park to hang on. Keeping it in a cell like that is cruel beyond description. And gorillas have the upper body strengh of over 20 Humans. It wouldn't surprise me if that gorilla ripped the stell bars from that cell and escaped. Even glass that can resist shots from a .357 magnum wouldn't be able to hold a pissed off silverback for more than a few minutes. They are that strong!
