  • Frank Oz is a genius. Lots of this must be improvised.

  • You have absolutely filled me with glee by posting this.

  • this used to make me laugh soooooooooooo hard when i was little... mustave been atleast 15 years

  • 4 people lost their numeros

  • LOL "I got a difficult customer here!" @ 5:24

  • Oh dear... um... sir... I am afraid that your numero quatro has ended up all over the... flooro.

  • Who knows? Probably that figure of number 1 is made of big sweet mint candy. Then, that is worth eating.. No??

  • I had this on video tape once. The episode I had started with "How I Miss My X," to this segment, to "Sign Your Synonyms," to "Sesame Street Special News Report with Robert MacNeil," and to "Jellyman Kelly sung by James Taylor." There was another segment after the one segment with James Taylor. But I can't remember what that one was called. It had farm animals singing music. Like cats, pigs, chickens, dogs, and other farm animals.

  • Ah, yes, Sesame Street. When it had clever writing and was educational. In other words, before Elmo. I don't even let my niece watch the crap they put on this show nowadays, I just pop in my old VHS tapes.

  • I'm surprised that Grover managed to smash the Numero Dos, even after he SET IT DOWN!

  • Even the guitar player has the sense to not eat there.....

  • This was BRILLIANTLY executed. 8D

  • Well I am not sure about Charlie being the Swedish Chef because in one episode of the Muppet show, he is referred to as "Tom".

The blue guy seems to like 9s more than 1s because he faints at the prospect of a number 1 being on his plate, but doesn't when he sees the number 9 in "Number 9 Special of the Day".

  • This was my favorite Grover sketch when I was little. :) Thanks for posting this!

  • 3 people danced all over your "dos".

  • "Well why'd ya wax the floor? Ya knew I was gonna dance!"

  • I saw this in a bit of behind the scenes. Pretty amazing how they catch the numero dos, tres, and quatro when Grover drops it.

  • I often wonder what would happen if Kermit was the customer.

  • @muppetfan33 Kermit would be VERY ANGRY if any of this nonsense happened. I would NEVER eat in a restraunt with all this spanish.

  • @AFGSANFORD2 I HATE Mexican food.

  • @muppetfan33 I like tacos but I understand you hate mexican food; I WOULD NOT EAT IN A MEXICAN RESTRAUNT OR A CHINESE RESTRAUNT CAUSE YOU MIGHT GET SICK FROM THE FOOD OR THE WATER. I don't want food poisoning.

  • @AFGSANFORD2 You don't like Chinese? I think it's yummy. I like tacos, I just don't like fajitas or tamales or anything.

  • @muppetfan33 Actually, I do like chinese I would be very careful in a chinese or mexican restraunt and make sure the health department has throughly inspected it,

  • OLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLEOLE!

  • Does anyone have the sketch when Mr. Johnson keeps changing his mind about how many eggs and strips of bacon he wants for breakfast?

  • @Pocockable lol...I've been looking for that one for years...that's the one where Grover went nuts in the kitchen.

  • He says he'll bring his lunch in a bag from now on, but he always say that, and yet he keeps going back to all these reatraunts where Grover and Charlie work. I think Mr. Johnson actually likes the spice Grover puts in his day, and the cold, pesimistic mood he puts on is just a facade to make Grover try harder.

  • Where there is life there is hope. XD

  • i love grover, gota love him no matter how old u r hehe

  • GraanAAAAAADAAAA!!!!

  • this is funny

  • LOL 4:18 I'm afraid I got so carried away I danced all over DOS *pardon my bad spanish spelling*

  • do you have the end credits for 'put down the duckie' the vhs?

i've been looking for it everywhere! i've lost my copy and that was my favorite part.

if you could upload it, that would be amazing.

  • Why does the guy always get a song and dance before the meal?

  • where there is life, there is hope. lmao

  • What was he fainting for at the end?

He got a number 1 AND fries!

He could appreciate the number 1, and enjoy the fries.

    He's just too picky.

  • @DressUpAndKillTheTV

It looks like all he got was a pile of potatoes.

  • @DressUpAndKillTheTV 2:32 Guess It's singing and dancing time again.

    Mr. Johnson: But....

    2:35 GRANAAAADA.

  • You forgive Grover his colossal ineptitude because, well, he's so lovable. And he really does try, bless his furry little heart. :^)

  • & i wonedr how e doesnt get himself killde

  • @steventean Like everyone else, God loves Grover. I'm pretty sure that's how he survives.

  • You always get that waiter because Grover can't get a full time job that pays enough!

  • I love grover being waiter :)

  • 1:27- I thought he said "Grandfather is coming to kill ya."

  • Manolo is SO doing this on purpose, LOL. He knows good ol' rule-obeying Grover is dumb enough to just start singing and dancing whenever the music starts, no matter what else is going on. This is how he gets his kicks all day. XD

  • "Where there is life, there is hope" should be up there in the top-10 of memorable Sesame Street quotes, along with "I know WHO a square is!" and "Cookie Monster isn't a letter of the alphabet."

  • Manolo: Oyey, Grover!

    Grover: YO!

Manolo: Hey, I'm goin' down to the corner for a hamburger and some fries. Okay?

Grover: Okay, Manolo. Stay cool. (to F. Blue) See? No more music!

    LOL

  • @TVLubber Manolo sounds like Pepe the King Prawn!

  • If you look carefully at 2:45, it looks like grover dropped that dish on the floor on purpose.

  • "Where there is life, there is hope." I'm assuming Frank was in Yoda mode when doing this skit.

  • Where there is life there is hope!

  • one of my favorite skits!! Classic!

  • Haha I lost it when he said "floor-o." I remember one where they're out of glasses and the guy is mad he has to drink out of a bucket or something.

  • If you can believe it, in the very early sketches Grover was the victim

  • Do you have any of those sketches posted?

  • There are some on here. Like the one with the picture menu: by the time Grover gets the order right, Fat Blue says he doesn't have time to eat it and leaves, with Grover feeling very frustrated.

  • the cook is still Charlie

  • When I saw this skit, I thaught it was enchaladas or something.

  • I love the earnest comment from Grover - "where there is life, there is hope." LOL

  • @LanakilaIesu : cracked me up too.

  • @LanakilaIesu hahahahahahaha

  • I have a sneaking suspicion that Charlie is really just the Swedish Chef.

  • @gamingrat no, the Swedish Chef''s name is "Tom" (inside joke).

  • @gamingrat I would agree with that. I wonder why he keeps Grover?

  • @gamingrat

    That would explain alot.

  • @gamingrat LMAO. OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!

  • No, I mean that M. Johnson puppet is different than the other puppets of him. It looks like a real human.

  • "OLE-OLE-OLE-Don't worry, I won't drop it-OLE..." drops it anyway and mournfully looks down. "Oh dear...."

  • lol milk and cookies

  • JAJAJAJAJAJA!!!!

Granada, Cadiz, Sevilla, where butter is called mantequilla!!

    JAJAJAJAJJAAAJ!!

Cuando lo doblaron al español, decía. GRANADA TIERRA BONITA; DONDE EL JAMON ES JAMON; LE SIRVO SU COMIDITA; OLE OLE OLE OLE!!!!

    Que bueno por Dios!!! :DDD

  • Comment removed

OLE! OLE! OLE!" hubiera sido mejor.
  • Charlie is like the Charlie in Charlie's angel...

What? YOur numero quarto is on the flooro?

  • You know what I want to see in at least one of these Grover and Mr. Johnson sketchs?

I want to see what this "Charlie" looks like.

    lol

  • I never get tired of this one! OLE-OLE-OLE!!! OLE! OLE-OLE!!!!

  • Memories like this NEVER gets old!

  • GRAAAAANAAAADAAAAAAHHHH!!!!

    Garnada de Quesidilla,

    Where butter is called 'mantuqellia',

    You're treated so fine

When you come in to dine,

I'm always delited to see ya,

    OLE-OLE-OLE-OLE-OLE *smash!*!!!!

    LOL

  • this is one of my favorites <3

  • I'm an adult that I think this is hilarious! Am I normal?

  • Of course you are!!!

  • If you didn't think that this was funny, THEN something is wrong, not the other way around. lol

  • Let me give you one good reason why I actually like this sketch. I have the tape of the Sesame Street special recorded in its orginiality from 1988. I've grown up with it.

  • My all-time favorite Grover restaurant sketch! I used to re-enact it as a kid all the time, with actual food: "GRANAAAADA! Granada Cadiz Sevilla...."

  • It sounded like he was singing "GRANADA DE QUESADILLA..."

  • LOL I loved this sketch with grover and the blue fat dude...it was great.

  • ROFLMAO!!!! I loved this clip when I was a kid. Hilarious!!!!!

  • This is actually my favorite of all the troublesome waiter Grover sketches with Mr. Johnson. I love the singing part and "Where there is life, there is hope." I still wish Mr. Johnson would disappear. His aggravations I believe would scare little children.

  • Where their is life their is hope.

  • that puppet of Mr. Johnson looks more like an actual human than the other puppets. Right?

  • I guess if you overlook the blue skin and pink nose, right?

  • Grover has to be the funniest muppet all-time.

  • lol..I'm going down to the corner for a hamburger & some fries...lol

  • "Where there is life, there is hope". Best. line. ever.

  • Customer Screaming: "THAT'S IT, I HAD IT!!!!!!!!" LOL.

  • why don't you set it on the table so youd on't drop it you moreon!!

  • Ha,ha!!! That Grover is very...BRUTO!!!!!

  • Grover is also muy elstupido :)

  • Comment removed

  • Is this casualty or what? All places Fat Blue goes to dine at, the waiter and the cook are the same: Grover and Charlie. LOL

  • @Stereo4102 Not quite true: in the episode with the "tableful" of spaghetti at the end, the cook is NOT addressed as "Charlie", but as "Alfredo". Yes I'm sure.

  • @pianoman74 Agreed. This sketch should have been so too. Because of the Spanish setting of this sketch, the cook should have be named, for example, José, Juan, Antonio...or nicknamed Pepe, Curro, Joselillo, etc. instead of Charlie.

  • Comment removed

  • I think Grover said "Cadiz" not "quediz".

  • GRA-NA-DAAAAAAAAAAAAA

    Granada, quediz, sevilla.

    Where butter is called Mantequilla.

You're treated so fine when you come in to dine. I'm always delighted to see ya!

    XD

  • Cadiz

  • I heard my mother is coming to kill ya.... thanks for clearing that up! Where there is life, there is hope:)

  • this is my favorite one!

  • hahahh... did he just say " i have a difficult customer here??" hehehahah

  • Si, senor.

  • Does anyone else notice how they are counting backwards from 4 to 1 in Spanish? Thus, not only a lesson in the words for Spanish numbers, but also in counting backwards. Awesome!

  • "GRA-NA-DAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!"

    Granada, quediz, sevilla.

    Where butter is called Mantequilla.

You're treated so fine when you come in to dine.

I'm always delighted to see ya!

OLE! OLE! OLE! OLE! (Don't worry! I won't drop it!) OLE! OL-- (CRASH!!)

LORRRRL!!!! Love the 2nd time Grover does that dance!

  • You shouldn't have waxed the floor, you knew I was gonna dance!!

  • lol, he surved the number 1 along with chips for lunch

  • brimg a aloro omahe

  • GRA-NAHHHHHHHH-DAAAAAAAA!!!!

    Granada ca-de sa-via,

    Where butter is called Mantequila.

    You're treated so fine,

When you come in to dine,

I'm always delighted to see ya'!

OLE! OLE! OLE! OLE! OLE! OLE! OLE! OLE! OLE! OLE!

  • Thank you for posting the lyrics...LOL!

  • Damn! This is making me hungry for Mexican! :)

  • This reminds me of the D'AGOSTINO supermarket on Columbus and 91st Street in NYC. The employees always start having conversations with each other in the middle of serving the customers and that's why they're so slow.

  • LMAO!

"when there is life, there is hope!"

    I love Grover!^^

  • big blue head! lol

  • "I just have to get my choreography straight!"

I nearly peed my pants the first time I saw this, when I bought my kids the 'Put Down he Duckie'video. I think I watched it more than my kids! All the skits are terrific, but Grover's my all time favorite. His '39 Steps' his hilarious too.

The thing I love about Sesame Street is they always include humor for the parents. Barney & Co. just couldn't compete.

  • Ah, memories. I remember laughing so hard every time Grover went "Oleoleoleoleole!" LOL, I still laugh now.

  • ¡Buen apetito!

  • "Why is it that every restaurant I go in, I get that waiter?"

  • And every bakery, every store, every movie theatre, every park, every cab etc etc.

  • That's not entirely accurate. Grover wasn't in "Pizzaria Dos", but the ones who were there, weren't any better.

  • I loved this bit as a kid, only because I thought Grover was singing about my my mom's car(a Ford Granada)!

  • It doesn't matter where this poor guy eats grover is always his waiter! haha!

  • OleOleOleOleDon'tWorryIWon'tDropItOleOle- *CRASH*

  • LMAO!! OFL!! ooops I danced all over your dos! Love ya Grover!

  • Lol indeed still funny to watch as an adult.

Lmao... Granadaaaa! ... ole! ole! ole! ole! ole! ole!.... *

  • Funny the things you notice as an adult when you see your childhood stuff again. First of all, I think the guy that always comes in to Grover's restaurants is based on Jack Benny. Second, I have a weird feeling that the restaurant in this one is based on an actual place in NYC -- El Quijote, inside the Chelsea Hotel. It would fit with all the New York inside jokes Sesame St. did (but I'm from Texas, so what do I know?)

  • You can hardly accuse Grover for lack of dedication. This clip is hilarious and a true classic, and his quote "Where there is life, there is hope" should be in the top-10 list of timeless SS quotes. I can hardly tire from watching this. (In actuality, he should say "Buen appetito", not bon.)

  • lmao... i can't imagine kids watching this :D

  • I'm a little confused as far as time of day is concerned. First of all, Grover inquires "What would you like to eat tonight, sir?" And when he goes to retrieve the Dos, Johnson mutters "I'm gonna start bringing my lunch in a brown paper bag."

Was Johnson on his lunch break, or did he decide to go out to dinner?

  • "Where there is life there is hope!" ROTFL!!!!

  • "I seem to have danced all over your DOS!" lol

  • Perhaps Mr. Johnson should try cooking for himself at home.

  • he really should

  • the classic sesame street was my childhood. i miss my childhood.

  • lol

  • Where there is life, there is hope.

  • It's rather surprising, considering how many classic characters are gone now, that Mr. Johnson is still around. Not just on the show, but in specials. I hate to admit it, but I actually saw "Elmo Saves Christmas" recently just to see how they fit him in. His scenes were actually pretty humorous.

  • GRA-NAHHHHHHHH-DAHHHHHH!!!!

    Granadah ca-de sa-via,

    Where butter is called "Metakia"

    You're treated so fine,

When you come in to dine,

I'm always delighted to see ya'!

OLE! OLE! OLE! OLE! OLE! OLE! OLE! OLE! OLE! OLE!

  • I thought it was "mantequilla", not "metakia".

  • I love grover's dancing. OLEOLEOLEOLE, OLE-OLE!!

  • Silly Grover

  • "Where there is life, there is hope". What a great comment. Simply one of the best lines I have ever heard. I laughed out loud at this one.

  • i want 2 see charlie-....

  • Funny video! Grover needs to work on his singing and waiter skills, though. I'm suprised Fat Blue aka Mr. Johnson didn't file a restraining order against Grover for all the trouble he's caused him!

  • OLE! OLE! OLE! OLE! smash!

  • This still has my crying laughing! Poor fat head blue......... LMAOOOOO

  • Thanks for posting this video! I have this skit on tape but my VCR just died not too long ago. So i was not able to watch it.

  • you know how you never notice grover's little parenthetical comments as a kid...hilarious 20 years later

  • Comment removed

  • Poor Grover. He tries cso hard and keeps screwing up. By the way I received an email from someone who thought I was a Hanson fan because my youtube name is zacandtaylorrule. Hanson is alright but I am not a huge fan. The name comes from my high school days when I performed as a duo with my friend and our name was Zac And Taylor. Sorry about the confusion.

  • ' where there is life, there is hope ' :D

  • Yes, priceless comment.

  • Ohhhh... well, why didn't you say that in the first place? It would've made more sense if you did.

  • Where? I didn't see any maracas in Grover's hands.

  • What maracas? I don't remember seeing Grover playing the maracas.

  • You think you could e-mail a copy of the script for me? I'm thinking of putting this in a Camp Lazlo fan fiction.

  • I don't think I can.Sorry.

  • Oh, well that's okay. I'm sure I can find it on my own. Thanks for posting this video, wattamack4.

  • But you know, either that, or I can keep watching the sketch over and over again until I have enough inspiration for it. I'll try my first idea first and see if it works. Wish me luck!

  • "where there is life there is hope" grover is my favorite philosopher.

  • I laughed my head off when Grover said Ole ole

    ole ole lol

  • So did I.

  • Yeah

  • That was SOOOOO hilarious!!!! That Grover is such a card!

  • Hey Sorry it took so long I was in the bed

    I haven't seen this since I was 2 or 3

  • This one is my favorite!!

    Ole! Ole ole ole oleoleoleole!!

    *CRASH*

Plus we learn how to count to 4 in Spansish.

  • This was always my favorite Grover The Waiter sketch! Talk about laughing my ass off!

  • "You shouldn't have waxed the floors. You knew I was going to dance."LOL!

  • Anyone else hear Grover's mention of Luis from the Fix-It shop?

  • I did.
