Divorce is common in other countries, the reason it might not be so common in others is social taboos against it - doesn't mean the marriages are happy. Illegitimate births are not highest in the U.S, its actually higher in a lot of European countries. Heck, many African countries don't take issue with it at all. And it happens even in the most conservative places.

@partenopea73 He is speaking Sicilian. The last word he says was not pronounced very clearly. I believe he says "Dove sono i mariti ? ", which means "Where are the husbands?". However, in the transcript of the movie, it is translated as "Where have all the men gone?"

@partenopea73 Calo doesn't speak English (Fabrizio does) so he's speaking Sicilian; he's asking Calo where have all the men of the town gone. Since traditional Sicilians married young (Vito and Carmela married at 18 and 16 respectively) "men" is interchangable with "husbands". That, and in both the book and movie Mike is presented as not really being fluent in local Italian, at least in order to pass off as a native. His Italian is enough, in the book at least to pass off as a Northern Italian.

I read about the part of him explaining to Kay what her soon to be Husband had done. Tom even had some action on the side, a mistress, I couldn't believe that part though.
