His voice is basically gone, he's not the same but nevertheless he is still much better as he is now than all the crap that plays on radio and on MTV today .
Yap... the voice is basically gone.. his lung capacity has diminished and evident.. too bad.. but what he did was truly amazing... and I did have the pleasure of seeing him in the early 70's right when Thick As A Brick came out... thanks for the post.
@RedSkyTree1 This is his "Rubbing Elbows" band... Kit Morgan on lead guitar and James Duncan Anderson (Ian's son!!) on drums. The guitarist is NOT Florain Ophale. Florain does play with Ian, but this guy is Kit Morgan...I saw him at one of the "Rubbing Elbows" shows, as well as "Ian Anderson Plays The Orchestral Jethro Tull" show in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. Florain looks similar with the hair and stuff, but this isn't him.
I was so happy to recetly, finally for the first time see my favourites live...
Although, I had to say afterwards that it would be enough for me if Ian had sang the easiest parts and bring in a new singer who "still has the lungs for it". I think te performance would benefit and wouldn´t take off Ians "authority and spirit".
Well, lots of famous rock singers managed to die young, so they did not turn out like this. When Anderson was young, he was a great singer, instrumentalist, composer and entertainer. Nowadays, when he is actually not a great singer, he is still a great instrumentalist, composer and entertainer. That´s enough to me.
The problem with these aging stars is, that their concerts bring a sadness to my heart...well...and also a notion of aging myself.. However, its great idea, that there's a new generation of musicians who appreciate the real value of music of past several decades and, as it seems to me, they will continue to promote it to future generations.
Tull is one of the greatest performing bands ever, saw them back in storm watch days and a couple of tours before that, then when they tour with Lucia Micarelli a few years ago, absolutely awesome!
Did not have any money for concerts back in the day(70's)...got my LP of Tull...and a few cassettts to listen .....nice to see a live performance with a truley "great" band....and kucia!
Ian Anderson is like the old storytelling crazy grandpa we all wish we had, and this video just shows how age doesn't pass in vain, making me feel sad because he will never be the same again...
@mbkhelmet You may correct, but I saw him on June 15th in Boston and I will say that after better than 100 shows that I have been to, I'd say they were as tight musically as ever. So he's not dead yet.
great show! but nothing like the 1978 version also available on you tube.. check the 1978 Madision Sq. garden video..This was Tull at their very best! Ha Raha!
I saw him in Santa Barbara California and he had lost his voice. I still enjoyed his music, but not like the 70's. I wish i could have seen him with the band. Too late.
My wife and I were at the Boston show. When Ian took the stage wearing casual black slacks and normal footwear, I was a tad puzzled. When the band came out and I saw that it wasn't Jethro Tull I was VERY disappointed. But that ended quickly. Lucia was amazing. The entire show was fabulous. The video sound doesn't do justice to the sound live.
As I understand it this is is a solo tour not Tull the band, which explains the absence of Martin Barre. I really hope they do more with Lucia, she's very good.
I saw a show on this tour and I really enjoyed it, though I suppose if I'd seen them in 1978 there would be a higher bar to surpass, yes?
Well I'm going to be an old sourpuss and just say that this is a disappointing performance for me personally. It is very hard for me to be excited about a Tull performance if Martin Barre isn't involved. In fact, I'm not totally sure I even like the latest lineup very much at all...especially without Martin. Lucia is fine, don't get me wrong there...she kicks violin!!! ;) I just don't care much for this particular performance. Just being honest ;) LC
This is from Ian Anderson's solo tour, which is separate from Jethro Tull. He just wanted to experiment and see how the songs fit in a more classical setting. Don't worry, Martin is still the guitarist for all the actual Tull shows.
wow...he nearly even hits some notes once in a while...i both like and dislike some parts of this less electric sound. the intro is great thid way...but once they start rocking, i miss martin.great too see a different version, anyway
The Tull landscape has received welcome additional coloring over the past few years from a few different girls, all of whom have done wonderful work. Have to give a slight edge to Lucia, indeed as I understand it she came up for consideration as the ornament topping the Anderson family Christmas tree a high honor indeed. Here's hoping for more musical copulations between Anderson/Micarelli
Impressive

Ian certainly isn't what he used to be, but functioning at 50% he's still far better than all the crap that's out there now.

Does anyone know who is playing guitar and drums? Where is Martin Barre and the rest of the band?

@RedSkyTree1 the guitarist is young German prodigy Florain Ophale and the drummer is James Duncan (aka James Duncan Anderson...yes, Ian's son!)
