This tune....just makes me want to curl up on the sofa, with Mr Bear and a cup of hot milk, Mum's voice drifting through from the kitchen....rain pattering on the window, warm and safe, not a care in the world, about five years old. Why do we have to grow up.
@EBursey Are you in the UK? That is wonderful if you are. Beautiful land. Should I locate any black and white originals of this series, I will definitely post them and dedicate them to you! :) I'll keep my eye out for them.
@EBursey I have one somewhere but it is on a VHS video so it is an episode which was made quite widely available about 20 years ago and you may have it already. It is indeed one of the original b/w episodes but just one episode I believe.
Hell's Teeth! I loved this programme way back in the early '60's. Whats all this commercial rubbish creeping in? Sold, sold - you don't sell a classic like this!
Johnny Morris didn't do voice-overs - the animals really spoke, I can still hear them now. Dammit, who's been spreading malicious rumours - the river bank was British (the Turtle was just visiting!) I tell you, this is almost blasphemy........
Note: The writer of the above rant has been put in a straight jacket for his own safety....
@HeathenLoveGod I'm afraid it is, although having been raised on the BBC version, I was surprised to discover it. The producers tried to sell the show to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, but they didn't want it. It was then sold to BBC. The original Canadian accents were redubbed by Johnny Morris for the UK version, which gives it a British feel, but a painted turtle is still an unlikely animal to find in a British river, although they're common here in Ontario.
@megron113 Thank you for clarifying that as I find it can get confusing. Canada shares many programs with the UK and Australia and sometimes people aren't aware of whose is whose anymore, especially true when it comes to older children's programming.
I was so jealous. Those bloody rodents had a speedboat and I didn't.

That tune makes me so calm - almost like going back to the womb - I remember it well. Hammy, Ratty, Johnny Morris.

One of my favourites. Didn't know it was a Canadian programme. Turns out Hammy et al were dubbed for the UK market!

@steve998 Those happy years are so fleeting, but last in memories till we die.

Because of how Hammy & Co. ate boiled potatoes, they have been a favourite food of mine since I was five years old. (Daft but true).
Any full eps around (non-colour please)?
