  • Yeah, I guess there will have to be some "tactics" used at McCarren Park. Anyway, good to speak with a fellow D-E-V-O TEE as they seem to be hard to come by these days. Those that are not "in the know" do not know what they are missing (besides the red energy dome and yellow radiation suits). LOL!! I love this band - glad I have them on DVD to watch when I need a DEVO jolt! Are we not MEN? :-)

  • Hi - checked it out - also asked around - the complaint is that unless you are directly in front of the LARGE stage, seeing the artists becomes difficult since the area used to be an inground pool and is now filled in with cement. Also not sure about getting pushed and shoved by the crowds all night. Would prefer if they played at an "enclosed" venue like they have in the past or perhaps in Central Park again. JMHO! :-)

  • Hey - what's the story with that venue "McCarren Park" - standing only? Is it seedy or what??? Used to be a pool - now a vast wasteland or what??????

  • Wow! Look at all the hair Letterman had back then at age 35!

  • Smash skates!!!.Yeah Corey,go!

  • Man, I love Devo but why are they not actually playing it live?

  • Those crappy US shows never let bands play live, fearing they would screw up.. Everyone used to mime not so long ago - like on Top of the Pops! I always thought it was pretty rubbish.. I like Devo though! Supprised they're on Letterman..

  • True, but this was just as evident in the U.K on "Top of the Pops" as it was in the U.S, remember when Nirvana appeared in 1992? Granted that was Cobain's homage to Johnny Rotten of PIL's "Great American Bandstand" stunt but it's the same as it is everywhere. The music industry and live TV are unpredictable and only a few shows allow it from time to time.

  • My peer group was into classic rock and I got laughed at because I liked Devo. But I knew sooner or later my friends would have to recognize that...we're all Devo!

  • Jerry is holding a Steinberger bass guitar. But yeah it's a lip-synched performance.

  • Except live..this bass line is not played on a guitar. Its off bass-keys.

  • Love this band - saw them back in the day at the Palladium in NYC and also as recent as 2004 in Central Park and 2006 at the Hammerstein Ballroom also in NYC. Wish they would tour again - can't get enough!!!

  • Deee Eeee Veeee Oooohhhh!!!!!!!!!!

  • So original and ahead of their time!

  • this is awesome just awesome! i have no words!

  • Great choreography! :)

  • BEYOND AWESOME! DEVO Rules!

DEVO is / was the most underated PROGRESSIVE ROCK band in the history of comercial pop music.

    EM~

  • lol,lovin, that crazy hair

  • I want hair like that.

  • dont we all!!!

  • Great performance from a great band. Devo still puts on a good show to this day.

  • yeah I think the instuments are synched, but mark is singing. btw devo pioneered wire less mikes and instruments as well as electronic drums.

  • If only i was old enough to see them live!

  • Well, they do still perform live sometimes.

  • u probably don't know much about anything... take care.

    Cheerz

  • The only retard is the one too thick to understand the messages in the video.

  • that's the guy who stole my mom's glasses!!!

do you think he still has them.

  • Yep, he still wears them in concert now!

  • where are the cables for the instraments?

  • this was 1982. letterman was new, the group wasn't yet really mainstream, no budget for a live performance except a mics for vocals. also, if they were playing in town on the same day, they would only be able to take the gear you saw.

  • True. I saw them in Minneapolis during this tour and now, 25 years later (holy crap I'm getting old), it's still one of the best shows I've ever seen.

  • Live, they were one of the best stage acts ever. Just amazing.

  • i love this band ... especially their song Turnaround ..... i give this 5 stars

  • thanks for posting!1

  • Thanks for this.

There are no cords coming from any of the instruments if there is still any confusion.

    Still completely awesome

  • Look at him coming down the stairs ....brilliant!

  • BEST SONG EVER!!!!!!!

  • 2 things this sounds like it's straight from the record not live and there's no drum kit?

  • is it live it doesnt sound like it i still love it

  • I like how they dance and move like robots! ROCK On, DEVO!!!

  • This clip is much better and not tacky like the original video.

  • Not bad lipsync... but there are small giveaways. Typical for the time, actually. Good thing the high tech 80s gear didn't malfunction -- or maybe somebody wasn't keen on Ashley... or was the equipment she used made from inferior goods elsewhere? Oh well...

And wow, Letterman did look young...

  • wow..that was a quarter of a century ago!!

  • Yes, time is a wondrous thing.

  • yeah, rub it in

  • the best part of this clip is seeing letterman young

  • The only thing live is Mark singing

  • the pride of AKRON OHIO

  • Yeah...they sure don't seem to be plugged into any amps, do they?

  • i want an sh-101. what a great synth!

  • nooossa, isso e tao legal!

  • my first bf was a dead ringer for mark mothersbaugh..was nuts about him....

  • bob one is the coolest or is that bob 2.. the one with tthe guitar probably could skate the best I bet..get aload of these turd blasters what nerve.. I bet bon jovi was watchin this and going "what"?

  • I first heard this song in Thrashin!

    I freakin love Devo!

  • ABSOLUTE!

    CLASSIC!

  • For the moment my favorite song is "Speed Racer", and could live without Whip it.

  • pure devo steeze!

  • not one of the best DEVO moments

  • What are you talking about? Classic Devo!

  • How?

  • All I said was your lucky, what's wrong with that??

  • This song kicks ass! Why can't they make music this good anymore? Devo was like future!!

  • wow small world

  • You're kind of lucky, I wanna go out in public wearing '60s and '70s clothes like Plaid Pants, Tight Shirts, or Austin Powers Suits. Unfortunately, I KIND OF succeed in that. Where do you get you're Devo outfit from?

  • oopsie

  • Mike Mothersbaugh does some great scoring work these days.

  • LOL!!!!!!

look at what they're wareing!! >D

  • What, You mean the coolest outfits ever!

  • Spudgasm!!!

  • I remember that appearance. I stayed up and watchedit on my 13" black and white t.v. in my bed room. I even taped the audio onto my "Tandy" mono casette recorder. Shit I'm getting old. Devo's music will never get old. Uh..well maybe the Devo 8 tracks I still have in the loft of my garage will get old. Anyone know how to plug an 8 track into an Ipod? I cant find the door.

  • If you remember what you entered here, thank you. My portable cassette tape recorder was a 1979 Marantz Superscope, with two enormous speakers that ruled by then but did not blast as today's standards... gee I'm 40.

  • Wow, that must've been expensive cuz I heard VCRs were like around $200.00 or something like that at that time.

  • Can't remember, it was a gift from my old man...

  • Nice gift! Even though VCRs came out in 1976, my Dad says only studios and Police Stations must've used them, and in 1979, they sold for like a lot of money. My Dad bought his first VCR in 1980. He said it sure was expensive. You must've been one of those lucky guys in 1979 to get a VCR.

  • We had a VCR I reckon, but I meant a cassette tape recorder!! I even had to put it next to the stereo speaker to record the music I liked!

  • Oh, one of those Audio Cassette tape recorders! I thought you were talking about a VCR.

  • I want a keytar too.

  • yep, that's Good!
