The 3rd frame Wes bowls is priceless, lol. Looks to his right at something and just takes off. Not a care in the world. 5th frame, vintage big nasty. 1st ball in 10th, you got to be kidding me. And remember, he was using plastic and getting the same reaction as most get with their high powered balls on "steroids" as Wilbon referred to them as. I am sure if Wes had decided to bowl in the plastic ball tournament that started this discussion he would have made the TV show easily.

@bowlinggod702 If you looked further into the competition, you'd find that the qualifier for the "plastic ball shootout" was open to all bowling equipment. The first year the tournament aired, all qualifiers could use their reactive material. I know plenty of people that didn't go for that reason; It was a joke of a tournament. Why Wes Malott didn't participate? Eh, I can understand why Wilbon called him out, but at the same time, do you blame him? It was a week break for him.

The way he got it to go straight was because when you throw a normal straight ball, your wrist will curve right making the ball cancel out any other motion. So... in other words, the wrist is a bit loose.

Now that I think about it...maybe he threw a straight ball on purpose. If this was an actual PBA oil pattern I don't think he'd come anywhere near the pocket regularly if he was trying to put some revs on it. I think the entire reason he bowled a 199 was because he threw it straight..

throwing a straight ball will go straight to the pocket on a pba oil pattern or a house pattern. What r u talkin about motogpboy?

The margin for error on a PBA pattern is significantly less than on a house pattern..pretty much close to zero. He'd have a much better chance at being consistent if he threw it straight because the ball is going to go wherever you aim it. It's much easier to mess up if he tried to hook it in. More powerful obviously, but for a non professional bowler, much less accurate.
