  • the Department of Veterans Affairs diagnosed me with PTSD/MDD/Schizoaffective. which one is it? Why do people like us have to take meds? how do i know they aren't poisoning me so they won't have to pay me benefits?

  • @nofxmike06 You can have PTSD, MDD and Schizoaffective all at the same time. There are different reasons and treatments for each of them. The meds are generally for schizoaffective and depression and anxiety symptoms. It is pretty much impossible to combat schizophrenia/schizoaffective symptoms without meds. I know it may seem like they are poisoning you, but they aren't. It is scary to trust the docs, but it sounds like you might need to. Just be honest with them and try not to be too afraid.

  • Hi Kristin,

I admire your reaching/courage regarding your condition. I have a 12 yr. old grandson that I am raising and "Nami" has been a big waste of my time as far as getting advocacy for him. There needs to be a change in the government to even acknowledge mental illness. I work for the system and see every day how so many adolescents never got the help they needed. You are very lucky that you have the support system you have and have taught you so much. Keep it up

    God bless,

    Nancy

  • Hey, stay strong :)

  • hey you there, kristyn, there, you. HI! i was diagnosed with schizo-affective disorder back in 1997, and although this is only an offshoot of having full blown schizophrenia, i find that it is very helpful to stay active. exercise, music, art, dancing, walking, swimming; things that keep you involved with the flow of 'mainstream' life and at the same time make it easier to meet people that like to do the same things. hope this helps, late

  • Hi Kristin,

I find comfort in my local club house style place for mental health. Jobs in the community, snack bar, meals, computer room and friends. Things can be strained or hard to go sometimes but it is worth it to go when I can or need to. People should check out this club house model and see about getting to one near them or petitioning local government to look into it maybe.

  • Thanks for a good video, I do not have many real friends, but they are pretty good and thats useful, Duncan
