Please be aware that TB racing is FAR from the only horse industries where these beautiful creatures are treated as commodites and as "disposable".
The official associations for Arabians supports slaughter... Appaloosa mares are sent to Kill Buyers if they produce foals with the wrong coloring... Tennessee Walkers endure horrible treatment as do Dressage horses all for "show".
@dravenousone Yes, it is incredibly sad how so many horses are abused. A good friend of mine has Tennessee Walkers and knows more about that side of things. Racing just hits close to my heart because of my love for TBs.
One thing, not against the video or anything, but Ruffian didn't run in the Belmont. It was a match race against the colt that won the triple crown that year, she won the filly triple crown...sorry, just something I noticed you might wanna fix or do more research on.
I have a retired TB mare that was on the track in her early years, she is 11 now and living a care free life.Thank you for sharing this video..I will certainly pass it on :)
This video def made me cry. I can't imagine Tilly being slaughtered. I just started crying ridiculous amounts thinking of Tilly, and even Sugar :( And also, thinking about my mare - she was bred to be a racehorse but Stephanie bought her and saved her from that life. I just can't imagine my sweet baby girl being murdered for nothing. Sending this video to everyone I know!
I know some stuff about the racing world b/c my barn get race horse for the track all of the time from ones need time off or being train to be a race horse but not all own and trainer are meen to there horses yes I do know some that will race there horse to they brak down witch is so sad :( we send in two baddy TB to the track they are not our but they are done with trainand going to the train haha I told then they better not brak down b/cI wil be sad.about all of the horses in the barn are OTTB
@BornToRideHorses Yeah Tilly came from a really bad place, but Sugar came from a really GOOD place. It doesn't happen everywhere, but it definitely happens.
I, too, have an OTTB who is a FABULOUS Dressage horse, and has been an eventer previously. He still has so many bad manners that he got from the track. Everyone at the barn says how "crazy" he is, and I have to explain to them how horses on the track are treated. Sadly, no one believes me because all they see is the glamour of the KY Derby on TV.
I mean I just can't even begin to fully rant and rave a bout all this crap. We talk about it all the time in my Animal Science classes, as I'm an Animal Science major. ajsdlkfja;lkgja;kldgj;l that's how i feel about it haha
It is very true. All these stupid PETA and other such organizations have no idea what they did by forcing the US to ban horse slaughter. Like you said, they're just being shipped to Canada and Mexico, in giant trailers packed in like rats, with no room to move or barely breathe. Then there's the insaneness of the slaughter houses outside the US. I mean, everyone who's against horse slaughter, are YOU going to buy all these horses and take care of them? People breed way too many horses.
Wow, never knew the full detail, but i did know about their final destination. why end the life of these majestic and blessed animals? what have they done to us to deserve this? nothing, exactly.
Wow, this video is very impactful and i love horses. And yes its true, TBs can live up to 30 and i even knew one that was over 30, but these beautiful animals most of the time cant because of this inhumane treatment they get from racing. I mean, i get it if their is nothing you can do, but you have to put the horse down not market it for dog food and such. Good job and your horse looks beautiful =]
Thanks! Exactly. I hope in my future to save and rehabilitate OTTBs, I have two right now and I love them to death. The US really only uses horse meat to feed zoo animals (big cats). The rest is exported to Europe for consumption. The whole problem comes from the racing industry because thoroughbreds are bred at an alarming rate, and there's not nearly enough people who are knowledgeable enough to retrain them for a future in something else.
can i use this information on a speech im doing for 4H?

@barrelracer403 Sure, but you should do your own research on it, too. This video actually came from a speech I did for 4H :)

An extremely well said argument. Supporters of this horrific industry will be hard put to argue themselves out of these facts.
