  • No, this is not my cup of tea.

  • Please find any videos of him and Patrick Moraz i.e. "Music For Piano And Drums"

and "Flags" there has to be some video footage from those days somewhere...

    Thanks!

  • This is karate kid shit

  • This is terrific. Thank you so much for uploading this. Finding about these guys twenty five years too late.

  • so interesting the sampled drums!!! i could watch this all day!!

  • Hey, if anyone has the time, do you think you could check out my drum solo and tell me what you think, what needs work, etc.? Thank you.

  • CAN YOU ASK HIM WHEN THE EVIL EYE IN 1993 IN EDMONTON? I WASNT WEARING MY KABALLAH RED BAND-ANNA..

  • no offense to bruford but D.C.'s SDX playing was way more potent.

  • @therekindled Dennis Chambers?

  • me pregunto que hubiera sucedido de haber tocado bruford con zappa, dos perfeccionistas y buscadores de nuevas cosas. Hubiera sido interesamte, verdad?

  • Simply... Wonderful. No words.

  • no wonder genesis got rid of this...

    very poor for genesis music.

  • whats the synth sound starting around 1:00min?

  • Simmons wizard

  • my god

  • Danny Carey sent me here.

  • brillante...

  • i can see why this is danny carey´s favorite drummer!

  • Are there any videos of Bill where he's playing completely without his hihat? I love to see that.

  • @nielswil anything 80's king crimson

  • I don't want to see camera tricks, I want to see Bill play!

  • I will speak to Bill and see if he will let me upload all the videos he has. I know for a fact there's a ton of unseen footage! I will try and sweet-talk him over a pint ;)

  • @darkphoenixmedia Yeah ! Good Luck with your try. I had arranged a Bill gig in Switzerland, 87, the year of the first Earthworks album and the memory of this concert is still in my brain's eye.

  • @darkphoenixmedia

Have you had that pint, yet, and what did he say?

    :-)

  • @darkphoenixmedia That would be fantastic

  • @darkphoenixmedia Any news regarding Bill permitting more of the David Torn stuff seeing the light of day? Ifhe won't allow YouTube to show it tell him to get it out on DVD. I would pay to see all of this (BIG Bruford & Torn fan!)

  • this isnt just a drum solo this is music

  • get some money and invest in some volume

  • 1.10 - 2.40 reminds me of 80's movie score music.

  • Agreed, sounds brilliant.

  • esiste tutto il concerto?

  • with all i heard about bill bruford,if i went to see this it would have put me to sleep sorry but i just dont get him...peart and palmer i get

  • I don't care for his personality, but he made Yes what it was.

  • Drumming Art!!! One of the greats to think outside what drums could be. Lot drummers with great chops have programmed their bodies to play chops but most chop players couldn't create art like this. Bill you always had the chops to go with creativity.

  • I remeber this - that was really something new - Bill Bruford RULES!!!!

  • It just doesn't sound like anything else on this earth...

  • wow cloud about mercury live i used to haVE THE LP CONVERTED TO CD NOW uh bonham was good 37 yrs ago this is a little more up to date dont ya think.

  • Neal Preat? haha. That's funny. It's NEIL PEART! Not Nail Preet, or Neel Proot or..or..

  • Do you have access to any more of this concert footage with the rest of the group? Puhlleez? Mahalo!

  • I will get in touch with Bill and see whether he wants any other footage digitised - I've seen literally stacks of tapes just waiting to be uploaded!

  • @darkphoenixmedia So? What Bill says? :)

  • Bill is one of those guys who transcends being a drummer - it's not even close to what he is. Cheers!

  • Buddy Rich is the best of all time. He was able to play on a full trap set at age 1 and a half. He is the most naturally gifted freak of nature, EVER.

  • he born to be a drummer he is a virtuos man many people study a long time for become a good drummer but bill almost always was an amateur when he began with yes and he's sound is so profesional also in that era his drumm kit was very basic and make sound like he has a big set my favorite drummers from all of time in order are:

    1.- Bill Bruford

    2.- Gavin Harrison

    3.- Terry Bozio

    4.- Neal Preat

5.- Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich

    6.- Phill Selway

  • sorry i forgot

    Cristian Vander

  • phil selway?! hahaha

  • well in my personal opinion he's tecnique are pretty basic but his preccison and his rithyms don't are so common so belive or not i like his style but in any case is my opinion againtsyours

  • I can't believe you wouldn't put Bonham or Palmer in that list.

  • ok plamer is a excelente drummer but mo matter what people say, to me Bonham is only a drummer i've heard all his work and he don't impres me, the drummer of my list can make me feel like the drumms were art and not only a rithym insturment

  • sorry but is my opinion very personal

  • neil preat? who the hell is that? I know neil peart but neil preat?

  • you are right man...

  • 3:06

Most dramatic hi-hat filming I've seen in my life.

  • now days a lot of drummer only played with fast tempo but they didn't think of the harmony. but not bill Buford

  • The thing I always liked about Bill was how effortless his drumming was - his movements were so graceful and fluid and precise. Real class act.

  • Yes he's the best and his son's a very very talented drummer in his own right too.

  • Bill always played the coolest stuff...was always on the leading edge of drum stuff

  • So, put this on an acoustic kit, and take away every melodic element, and it's still musical. That's why Bill Bruford is a god of a drummer.

  • god or good?

  • If you look at the gramatical context, it's god, but really, it's both. : )

  • this is amazing. however it's a tease of criminal magnitude that we can only see this clip. i'd gladly pay 20 bucks for a DVD of the entire show, and i hope that someday it's available.

  • Damn Right. Let's hope BB puts it out on his Winterfold imprint some time soon, eh? Now there's no new material to release, this is moire likely. A Moraz/Bruford live recording - for example - has just been released.

  • metalmike83 is totally wrong. Those aren't hot rods. I think Pro-Mark hadn't released those in the 80's. Bruford used to play with the sticks' butt a lot, like when he played with King Crimson in the early 80's. So, if metalmike83 is wrong- i hope he's not- the sensitivity madmusic25 is talking about comes only from the genius of Mr. Bruford, not from the tools he's using.

  • The sensitivity comes from Bruford alright, but he used a device called the Simmons MTM, allowing him to assign multiple sounds from different sound sources to each pad, depending on how hard he hit the pad. The bells and keyboard hits come from a Yamaha DX21, and the percussion sounds are from a Simmons SDS9 and an SDS7. Couple that technology with his enormous technique, and you have a solo that, even twenty plus years after the fact, still blows my mind.....

  • The amazing thing about Bill Bruford, is that no matter what he plays.....he makes it look so easy.

  • absolutely the Drummer of the Future today the master Bill Bruford

    Thanks for the video really

  • I really like the sensitivity of the snare he has there. can anyone figure out what kind of snare that is?

  • It's not his snare - it's the fact that he's using hot rods. - Basically brushes which allow for a much more subtle sound on drums.

  • Aha, thank you :). wasn't aware he might be using mezzos with an electric kit

  • jajajajaja how funny you are my friend BILL BRUFORD is the only drummer that i meet who can play with any drummer kit also in all bands that he is been perform the use a totally different drummer kit since he played with yes until now he's retired he changed his drummer kit he not depend from a specific drummer kit like mike porntoy, neal preat or terry bozio that's the reason for why he's better that the others also he was a hard influence for may drummers.

    please visit his official website

  • to the the most influencial drummer from of time in order

    1.- bill bruford

    2.- neal preat

    3.- cristian vander

    4,. terry bozio

    5.- gene krupa

    and

    6.- buddy rich

  • How about Stewart Copeland?

  • This guy is a genius! I have enjoyed watching him through the years from Yes to now and he never ceases to amaze me.

  • bruford is the best

  • COOOOOLLLL!!!!

  • a superb percussionist probably the best on earth and yet as polite and down to earth as the guy next door, i met him at the bottom line in 95 i guess, with tony levin another gentleman and great musician, it's a shame he's retiring from public appearances

  • OMG, BILL... BILL...Please grace us with your presence yet again... You know you miss your fans... You must ring up Dave, Barb, Allan, and Jeff - surely he could use a few bob.. and reunite Bruford National Health...

  • Please please please post more of this gig! I would have LOVED to have seen this performance. I assume you have more of it? RSVP

  • I saw this show in San Francisco in 1987, did they ever shoot the whole show? one of the most coolest things I ever saw was this tour for "Cloud About Mercury" !!!

  • fucking amazing!!
