me pregunto que hubiera sucedido de haber tocado bruford con zappa, dos perfeccionistas y buscadores de nuevas cosas. Hubiera sido interesamte, verdad?
I will speak to Bill and see if he will let me upload all the videos he has. I know for a fact there's a ton of unseen footage! I will try and sweet-talk him over a pint ;)
@darkphoenixmedia Yeah ! Good Luck with your try. I had arranged a Bill gig in Switzerland, 87, the year of the first Earthworks album and the memory of this concert is still in my brain's eye.
@darkphoenixmedia Any news regarding Bill permitting more of the David Torn stuff seeing the light of day? Ifhe won't allow YouTube to show it tell him to get it out on DVD. I would pay to see all of this (BIG Bruford & Torn fan!)

Drumming Art!!! One of the greats to think outside what drums could be. Lot drummers with great chops have programmed their bodies to play chops but most chop players couldn't create art like this. Bill you always had the chops to go with creativity.
Buddy Rich is the best of all time. He was able to play on a full trap set at age 1 and a half. He is the most naturally gifted freak of nature, EVER.
he born to be a drummer he is a virtuos man many people study a long time for become a good drummer but bill almost always was an amateur when he began with yes and he's sound is so profesional also in that era his drumm kit was very basic and make sound like he has a big set my favorite drummers from all of time in order are:
well in my personal opinion he's tecnique are pretty basic but his preccison and his rithyms don't are so common so belive or not i like his style but in any case is my opinion againtsyours
ok plamer is a excelente drummer but mo matter what people say, to me Bonham is only a drummer i've heard all his work and he don't impres me, the drummer of my list can make me feel like the drumms were art and not only a rithym insturment
this is amazing. however it's a tease of criminal magnitude that we can only see this clip. i'd gladly pay 20 bucks for a DVD of the entire show, and i hope that someday it's available.
Damn Right. Let's hope BB puts it out on his Winterfold imprint some time soon, eh? Now there's no new material to release, this is moire likely. A Moraz/Bruford live recording - for example - has just been released.
metalmike83 is totally wrong. Those aren't hot rods. I think Pro-Mark hadn't released those in the 80's. Bruford used to play with the sticks' butt a lot, like when he played with King Crimson in the early 80's. So, if metalmike83 is wrong- i hope he's not- the sensitivity madmusic25 is talking about comes only from the genius of Mr. Bruford, not from the tools he's using.
The sensitivity comes from Bruford alright, but he used a device called the Simmons MTM, allowing him to assign multiple sounds from different sound sources to each pad, depending on how hard he hit the pad. The bells and keyboard hits come from a Yamaha DX21, and the percussion sounds are from a Simmons SDS9 and an SDS7. Couple that technology with his enormous technique, and you have a solo that, even twenty plus years after the fact, still blows my mind.....
jajajajaja how funny you are my friend BILL BRUFORD is the only drummer that i meet who can play with any drummer kit also in all bands that he is been perform the use a totally different drummer kit since he played with yes until now he's retired he changed his drummer kit he not depend from a specific drummer kit like mike porntoy, neal preat or terry bozio that's the reason for why he's better that the others also he was a hard influence for may drummers.
a superb percussionist probably the best on earth and yet as polite and down to earth as the guy next door, i met him at the bottom line in 95 i guess, with tony levin another gentleman and great musician, it's a shame he's retiring from public appearances
OMG, BILL... BILL...Please grace us with your presence yet again... You know you miss your fans... You must ring up Dave, Barb, Allan, and Jeff - surely he could use a few bob.. and reunite Bruford National Health...
I saw this show in San Francisco in 1987, did they ever shoot the whole show? one of the most coolest things I ever saw was this tour for "Cloud About Mercury" !!!

Yes he's the best and his son's a very very talented drummer in his own right too.

Jetdreams65 2 years ago
So, put this on an acoustic kit, and take away every melodic element, and it's still musical. That's why Bill Bruford is a god of a drummer.

I really like the sensitivity of the snare he has there. can anyone figure out what kind of snare that is?
madmusic25 2 years ago
It's not his snare - it's the fact that he's using hot rods. - Basically brushes which allow for a much more subtle sound on drums.
metalmike83 2 years ago
Aha, thank you :). wasn't aware he might be using mezzos with an electric kit
