  • hahaha they should put jack nicholson as joker one more time ........ sikeeeee

  • Gordon-Levitt already worked with Nolan on inception. Looks like it might be a possibility.

  • I agree, J, he can pull it off.

  • so funny you say that, my brother said the same thing about Joseph Gordon Levitt being the joker last year.

  • I'm way late on this one, but I was catching up on videos I've missed and came across this one. After seeing Gordon-Levitt in Brick I have to say I think he could do it. Not only does he look like a brother/cousin of Heath, he really can act. Nice call, Jose.

  • anythoughts on casting catwoman? if you look at the actresses that played to role in the past you can pretty much cast anybody in terms of look and race which is cool just need a good actress who is massively sexy angelina jolie does fit that and her name has been attached to catwoman but im kinda of sick of her

  • Batman has a lot of enemies, why only use the popular villians. i thought that when i saw the Dark Knight it would set up 2 Face in the third movie. his death had meaning in the movie, but still kinda cheap. Joseph could pull it off.

  • no way, hes not joker material

he just has the same head shape as Heath Ledger.

i recon put the Green Goblin Dude

  • Hoseph Gordon Levit would be a PERFECT replacment joker.

But there are two MAJOR reasons why i think he wont be.....

Its too soon to replace Heath in the public eye. ( it took 2 decades to replace Nicholson)

And out of loyalty or respect- NOLAN probably wont want to replace Heath.

I personaly think it would be perfect but not for B3 maybe a 4th movie when a ROBIN shows up it would have better impact.

The 3rd movie will have alot to live up to and could end up like the SPIDERMANs...

  • I say Bigger is better,

and I've only been watching for like two weeks, but trying to add to the conversation, so thanks for labeling me riff raff..

    *grumble*

  • He he. We've actually had some people try to start stuff on the boards here with other commenters, agent42q. We always welcome new viewers to the conversation. Hopefully you'll stick around. Send us a friend request, if you haven't, and you will definitely not be part of the riff raff.

    Thanks for watching and commenting.

    J.

  • I heard Paul Bettany was originally meant to play the Joker instead of Ledger and I think he would still be good for it

  • Marion Cotillard for Catwoman.

  • There will always be someone better, not to put Ledger's performance down in any way. The only problem is that recasting a character can sometimes pull people out of the movie. A third movie wouldn't work without the Joker and might not work with recasting. Levitt is a good choice though.

  • I read the latest issue of Green Lantern and I must say that it is prob one of the best issues of Green Lantern I've ever read. The back story for the Black Hand was really disturbing, but it certainly explained his role in Blackest Night. This issue was a great way to kick off blackest night and I can't wait till next week for Blackest Night 1

  • i would prefer what ever is easier for you guys actually. seeing as how i watch the episodes in sequence anyway, at the end of the day it will still get watched...but great job to date

  • omg the amazing spider man anuall #36 was SO awful, horrible writing. dont read it!!

  • Too late. I read half of it. What I did read was not good.

    J.

  • it really sucked :( i read the new green lantern issue with black hand and is it me or did that book need a parental advisory on it? i didnt see anything saying this should be read by younger kids and it was really graphic. great book thoe

  • That book should have had some sort of advisory on it but it was awesome none the less. It was the first issue of Green Lantern that I actually enjoyed in a long while. Doug Mahnke's art was incredible.

    J.

  • whats your opinion on mauro cascioli's art?

  • I am not a fan. That's not to say that he isn't talented. His style just isn't my thing.

    J.

  • Good casting, Jose! I heard that Riddler and Talia al Ghul are going to be in the next movie. I can't think of a Catwoman... Megan Fox? lol. I'm joking. As for the longer episodes I say bring em on!!! I will check out the blog right after I leave this comment!

  • man, good call Jose, i can't think of anyone i'd rather see play the Joker.

  • I should probably add that I actually kind of like the longer episodes that you guys put up, because you guys have a lot of really good things to say in those. It's pretty entertaining.

  • i'll second that.

  • I dunno... I think JGL could pull off the Joker, but I really think there will be an outcry, no matter how well he does it. He is a really good actor, though, I have to agree.

And I think there are a lot of really cool things they could do with Batman's rogues gallery in this more realistic setting. They've got a tall order, though, with the success of The Dark Knight.

Personally, I'd like to see a Talia al Ghul character in the next film...

  • Talia is a character that would make perfect sense to have in the next movie.

    J.

  • Nolan has stated that Robin is at least 2 movies away because they are still doing the young Batman as he is just getting use to fighting crime, and if they have Robin it should be Tim Drake, because Dick Grayson works better as Nightwing and they should put him in a Batman movie

  • been championing gordon-levitt for a while myself, i'd love for it to happen. christopher nolan is working with gordon-levitt on inception so i just hope he does it, it must have occurred to him!

  • What do you think iof Silvester Stallon as BATMAN in the dark knight RETURNS?

Would it work? haha I believe the longer the episodes tha better but try to talk about more than one comic book in one video. If the book deserves a whole episode then talk as much as you want, but many books dont deserve a whole episode.

Keep up the LAST RANTS, and i believe you should talk more often about writers and artists, maybe which are your favorite comic books or perhaps a bok of the month

  • curious about something. when your videos go beyond 10 minutes (which i find is the standard for longest running vids on you tube), do you have to pay out of your own pocket for the "air time"?

  • No.

We've actually gotten up some vids that were 15 minutes. Don't know how that happens.

    J.

  • I think that since we're listed as a 'non-profit' channel, we get to upload longer videos.

    sssshhhhhhh...don't tell anyone. ;-)

    Elliott

  • hehe. np man ;)

and on the subject, i say the longer the better, especially if you get a few comics in there to review instead of just one. just edit it out if the subject or opinion gets too personal. i love j's bendis rants, but sometimes other subjects just tend to drag on forever *cough cough wonderwomancough*

  • You want us to talk more Wonder Woman? You got it!

    J.

  • See, this is why I don't like to think about movies and the creative process, because these ideas all have merit and will be stuck in my head when I go to see the third film. I would rather it be good and I know nothing about it

And yes. Every noir fan should see Brick. Talk about a breakout role. And Robin is awesome...when directors don't think he's a mascot and actually characterize him. Never happens, though.

  • But you don't know anything about it. All you know is stuff random people on the internet have suggested they want to see.

  • if you heard or not, joseph gordon levitt is set to star in christopher nolans new film " inception", so may be something could work out

  • There should be a Robin character because he is such an important part of the Batman mythos. I mean if done right Robin could improve the movie series. Just treat the character with respect, don't make him Batman's comedic sidekick, he's Batman's partner.

  • Just watch JGL on new york times-screentests, and i think he would be great as the Joker...

  • Yeah the only issue I think Justin would have is scheduling if this GI Joe franchise takes off that he might have too many movies on his plate. That being said, I also like Riddler in that he can play into the order vs. chaos debate that was being waged in the first two movies.

  • Would you want him to straight up mimic Heath or go the Grant Morrison road and have him play Joker completley his own and say he constantly reinvents himself.

Goyer who came up with the story for both BB and TDK said the third film won't use villains that have already been done in live action. So I how about Paul Giamati as The Ventriloquist and Steve Buschemi as Mad Hatter?

  • Ah, good villain choices! Paul Giamati as Ventriloquist is pretty genius. I dunno about Buscemi though... I love him, but as the Mad Hatter? Maybe. He would've totally worked as Scarecrow, though.

Mad Hatter's depicted as a "little person" sometimes. Maybe give Michael J. Anderson some work.

  • Don't close posting off dudes. I don't want to comment on every video but now and again you'll say something which I feel compelled to comment on, it's nice to be able to do that.

About the length of the videos, hey, just do the length you think they need, obviously not too long since what you might think is important to rant about might not be important to anyone else to the extent. It's the difference in closed and corporate blogging. The thing I find interesting here is your interested.

  • We are not closing the posts. As long as you are a subscriber and a "friend" of the channel you can post whenever you want. It doesn't really change anything for you guys. Just makes it easier for us to moderate.

    J.

  • post all of them in one day! The suspense kills me. haha. i love the longer episodes too btw

  • robin has NEVER worked on the big screen. I would rather eat my own face than see them ruin the other two great movies with that flop.

  • I hope you guys not being serious about "VIP Only" comment posting...

  • I kinda am. As long as you are a subscriber and a "friend" you have nothing to worry about..

    J.

  • Love the longer episodes. Keep up the good work!

  • Really like the longer videos, becuase it lets you two go in depth with way you either enjoyed or disliked a certain comic.

As far as villians for Nolan's batman franchise. What about Hush or Deadshot just an idea. How about Kate Beckingsale for Catwoman?

  • To complete the trilogy, rather than bring in a nearly-brand-new villain like Hush or a "who?" villain like Deadshot, I'd rather see them do for another classic villain what they did for Joker - Riddler's the obvious candidate, but I'd also love Penguin, despite Nolan apparently hating him.

Throw in Catwoman for good measure to give the movie a *real* love/sex interest, not some forced-seeming bullshit with a character no one cares about (I'm lookin' at you, Rachel whatever-the-fuck).

  • They should make Tony Daniel the villain in the new movie. I would love to see Bats beat the crap out of him.

    J.

  • Ah yes Tony Daniel the greatest Batman villian of them all. LOL

  • You do make a good point about both characters I was just throwing around names. I have always liked the idea of seeing a realistic Riddle character, not like the previous verison that Jim Carrey gave us.

  • I could definitely see Levitt pulling off the Joker. He does have the acting chops but if he actually did get the part it would always be in the back of my head that he got it cause of his resemblance to Ledger. Now if Nolan really wanted to go a different route with the Joker the best choice would be Alan Cumming. The guys an amazing actor not to mention that it looks like the Joker from the Killing Joke was modelled after him

  • I know you said not to, but, there really should't be a new actor as the Joker. Whoever it is, no matter how good they are, won't break out of Heath's shadow and will inevitably be compared poorly. And the entire movie will be go down as being the one that - no matter how good it is - "wasn't as good as The Dark Knight".

Let an actor step in and deliver an equally stunning performance as a different villain, that's the best way to cap off the best superhero movie franchise of recent memory.

  • I really think no matter what Nolan does at this point the third movie will inevitably be "not as good as The Dark Knight".

    J.

  • Maybe, but casting a new Joker is gauraunteeing that to happen. No matter how good, people will go - "Yeah, well, Heath still did it better," and that'll be the overarching impression everyone ends up having of the movie.

If everyone puts their best into it (and Bale tones down his Batman voice by one or two retardedness levels) it could be as good or better than TDK (which, like you, I think did have some flaws). But that effort'll be wasted if it has a hurdle like Heath's shadow to jump.

  • Bale DOES need to tone down the Bat-voice. When I was watching the movie last week I just thought to myself "That voice is just fucking ridiculous" and laughed about it. I had forgotten how over the top it was.

    J.

  • The funny thing is, people were telling me it was ridiculous when the first movie came out, but I literally didnd't notice. With the Dark Knight I definitely noticed. I haven't seen Batman Begins since then, I'm curious to see if his voice got worse for the second movie, or if I was just on crack back then.

  • I really don't think it's AS bad in Batman Begins. It didn't bother me nearly as much as in TDK.

    J.

  • All I've seen from JGL is 3rd ROck and 10 Things I Hate About You, both of which had him play an annoying lame-ass. I dunno, I'd have to watch one of his *good* movies to judge.

  • Ya, don't judge him on those to things at all. Check out the movies Brick, Manic or even The Lookout. He's in a new movie that's coming out soon called 500 Days of Summer. He is an awesome actor.

    So, where you been Nkerklaan?

    J.

  • Working and trying to get some creative projects done, not leaving a lot of time for watching videos or even reading comics, unfortunately. Hopefully that'll change now though. It's sweet that you missed me. =)

I'll definitely check out one of those, after I get through the stack of movies and TV shows I already have to get through.

  • Speaking of trolls, I'll risk sounding like one and state my honest opinion that I didn't like either of Nolan's Batman films. I liked Memento and Following, but not the Batman stuff. To get even more sacrilegious, I really didn't like Heath Ledger's performance as Joker. Totally cheesy overacting, but not in a fun way. So, there ya go... troll in da house.

  • You liked Insomnia too, didn't you? And because of that you are just angry that Nolan didn't pick Al Pacino to play Batman and Robin Williams to play the Joker.

    Jeeezus...could you imagine that movie?

    J.

  • No, I didn't see that movie. (Saw the original Norwegian version with Stellan Skarsgard, just to sound extra pretentious.) Forgot Nolan directed it... How about Steve Martin as Batman and Queen Latifah as The Joker?

  • That did sound extra pretentious. How about Emo Phillips as Batman and SInbad as the Joker?

  • Matt Berry as Batman and Rich Fulcher as the Joker

  • You win! I can't fucking top that. Genius!

That movie would be so full of win. Berry's Bruce Wayne would be awesome.

    J.

  • Old Gregg and The Hitcher would make great bat villains

"Eels up inside ya findin an entrance where they can"

  • ROFL!!!

    That's awesome locus!

    J.

  • I heard some people want Daniel Day Lewis should play the Joker.

  • I love Daneil Day Lewis and he could probably do a fine job as one of Batman's villains, but not Joker.

  • Secondly Elliot, the timing of the videos have been fine with me, 10 min is cool, not too short, if you really wanna rant about something then extra time for definitly. Good Job!

  • First thing, I think for the 3rd Batman movie, they should put in some villians that they have not used in previous Batman films in order to inform the public on these guys, such as Man-Bat, and Killer Croc, maybe that way they could give it a bit more of an amilistic tone, with Batman being dressed as a bat, and Man-Bat I think would be a great pick since well it would be bat vs bat with Killer Croc in it as well would be a great choice for Christopher Nolan to make.

  • so i was tryin 2 think of an actress who is feisty and malicious and justifies her means 2 an end...maybe eva mendes? a latina catwoman would be a nice twist perhaps...

  • He he. After seeing her in The Spirit I would prefer to never see her in another movie again.

    J.

  • Well...maybe a gratuitous women in prison flick

  • Haven't watched The Spirit, by ur comment im assuming i should skip it?

  • Oh, no no no no. You SHOULD watch it. It is the WORST movie I have ever seen in the theater and should be enjoyed by one and all.

Also, I would like other people to share in my pain of seeing it.

    J.

  • okie dokie i'll put my misery joining ur company on my to do list ;0p

  • If you survive the viewing let me know what you thought of it.

    J.

  • Second that, fuck I want that

  • I would definitely like it longer (and in mp3 format).

As for JGL, I'm not sure how bulpky or tall he is, but while his appearance definitely gels and he has acting skills, he seems to small to be Joker (or Cobra Commander. I gotta see this)

  • Dude, they fucked up Cobra Commander for the movie. His mask and costume are TERRIBLE! That movie is going to suck...but I still want to see how awful it will be.

    J.

  • it'll be like your spirit review all over again jose :D

  • I sorta did a Transformers 2 review for the Last Rants we taped on Sunday.

    J.

  • very nice, cant wait to see that. i was really not impressed with that movie

  • It should be Baron Ironblood anyway, not your bloody american cobra commander :p

  • He he, nice. After seeing how shitty CC looks I wouldn't mind seeing Baron Ironblood in the movie instead. I'm sure it could only be better.

    J.

  • While they're at it they could get rid of Duke and the rest of the Gi joes and replace them with SAS force, Z Force etc and have the Red Shadows as villains.

  • lf u change your mind on the sidekick angle, Jose...how about 4 Rob(y)n, EllenPage(juno) Keep the vids longer,

    k...o..

  • If they ever do a Dark Knight Returns movie I would be down for that.

    J.

  • For me I have to go With Riddler. At the end of TDK, we see the cops are after Batman, he's now considered a public enemy to Gotham. With the destruction Joker caused in TDK I say have it where the citizen of put faith in Edward Nigma, It would be the perfect riddle for him to solve who is The Batman.

  • That's actually a good pick bc Joseph does look a lot like Heath & he is a good actor.

  • Eliza Dushku as Catwoman.

  • Homina...

    I'm down with that!

    Elliott

  • As much as I love Dushku, I don't think she would be a good Catwoman. At least not in Nolan's version.

    J.

  • If the conversation is lively and the topic warrants it (like in last rants), then I'm all for longer videos.

  • Now that I think about it, they could bring the Joker back w/ a different actor and I'd do it like this.

Joker breaks outta Arkham and since he believes Bats is his "playmate" he wanna look good for Bats, so he gets plastic surgery wit new teeth et al to better present his true 'Joker' visage

  • I clicked the invite friend button to support the idea of "comic fans, no trolls" policy.

    Matthew

  • i like rants that are longer, reviews seem fine. also could johnny depp play the joker? i heard some people would lik that. what say you guys?

  • I don't want to go backwards in the series. Lets move forward with new villains. Begins tested Batman's strength Dark Knight tested Batman's Morals, lets put his brain to the test

  • RIDDLER!! :D

Right? That sounds like its what you were going for lol

  • i agree because when i see christains bale batman, i dont see the escape artist who thinks of everything batman from the comics. i want the third movie to convince me the bales batman is like that.

  • Totally, that's a really good point. Having Riddler be the central villain of the 3rd movie would definitely kind of complete the Batman persona.

  • good video nd i dont think they should do the joker again but good choice on the actor

  • Gordon-Levitt could pull it off, but I'd rather Crispin Glover

  • When I heard that The Joker was going to be in the Dark Knight that's the first person who I thought should play him.

    J.

  • lf u're talking about that kid from 3rd Rock, yeah...l can see that!!

As far as other bad guys go, let BM really go physical, and take on Killer Croc and if he has the chops 2 pull it off, get the wwe's Batista all reptiled up. Perhaps the guy that plays Dexter 2 play the Wrath.

E, as far as Cats...l'd say--not sure how u spell her name--but CatherineBell..(veronica mars) not JAG!

As 4 the friend deal, does one click on friend 4 the request or does one make a request in your comments section?

  • I wouldn't mind seeing Rachael Weisz play Catwoman.

    J.

  • Agree or as Talia Al Ghul

  • u mean kristen bell ..i luv her.

  • i definetly can picture JGL as the Joker now that you pointed it out, its funny cuz i just seen him play a really fuct up role in the movie 'Mysterious Skin' the other day, it's intense and disturbing movie, ya'll should watch it I think it'll prove ur point.

  • Actually that is a movie of his I haven't seen yet. I'll have to check that one out. Thanks jerriardo.

    J.

  • Eh...rather have Benicio Del Toro be the Joker.

  • That would be cool johnny. Didn't really think about him.

    J.

  • Yeah, I think Benicio could pull it off, definitely.

  • I'd take Benicio as a true Bane or Killer Croc

  • I'd bypass recasting the Joker, unless they can explain the Joker's different appearance.

  • That's the thing that killed Batman Forever for me. They didn't explain why Bruce Wayne looked like Val Kilmer instead of Michael Keaton.

    J.

    p.s.

    Please note the sarcasm. :P

  • Heh..well either way if they gonna recast Joker I'd like an explaination

  • Me personally I would like to see the Riddler in the next film He is my favorite batman villain next to BlackMask.

I heard before the Joker, Nolan was going to go with Black Mask but decided to do his version of the Joker instead.

  • I'd go for the Riddler also.

  • Yeah I want to see a Riddler that will put batman mentally to the test, I mean I think riddler is the only villain who knows who Batman really is. He confirmed it in Batman Hush.

  • Instead of having robin in the next film i think that nightwing would be better, but change his character around so that he is a rival to batman and have him better than batman in some ways. This would make for a great film in my opnion. Nightwing is dark enough for this kind of batman movie

  • God no..no Robin no Nightwing no sidekicks, not for this version of Batman. Nolan's Bruce wouldn't put a child in danger like that.

  • If Batman had to have a sidekick for the next movie I totally agree with you that it should be Nightwing. Just have the film take place a few years after The Dark Knight and have Robin already grown up.

    J.

  • Then it's Chris "I wanna drive the batmobile" O'Donnell all over again

  • Not if Jack Black plays NIghtwing. It would be totally different.

    J.

  • If by "different" you mean "terrible", then yes.

  • i think there should be a 3rd batman movie, but the problem is how do you make it better than the one before it, i could see joseph gordon levitt as the joker, but i heard that two face might of not died and went into a coma, and then of course there j. depp as the riddler
