I own this game and still play it from time to time, although the fourth boss frustrates the living hell out of me. Of course being blind I have to cheat to even get that far but that doesn't lessen my enjoyment. I'm actually thinking of trying to develop a game in the same style as Fantasy Zone but in audio only so blind folks can actually play it. A tricky proposition but worth it I think. Of course that's a long way off since my coding skills aren't up to it yet.
I've stuck with the Sega version to this date. The game is also available for the Sega GS and MD as Super Fantasy Zone, and in 3D on the Playstation 02. Sonic's UGC has the original copy, but do not use the 360 version of it. The disk crashed many times using this copy.
I can't believe this came out for NES. I remember playing it on Game Gear, and I know it came out for Master System, but I didn't realize Sega went cross-platform back then.
But this is a Sega game! How the heck could this possibly be on the NES?
