Cant imagine a much better cast for this movie except for the gal, but yikes the rest

Siodmak was at the height of his powers here: what a cast what a cast. For me this

is Siodmaks best, so many many wonderful scenes, Barry Kroeger, Hope Emerson, Mama Roma, and then of course Mature and Conte. They truly have forgotten how

to make movies like this. Alas.

@haziard  u must b very young recently gov't schooled lad. this was a drama...no intentions to rely on special effects. People were "top" educated back then as opposed to "bottom" educated. Thus people were more intelligent and could discern with great ease subtle meanings and the differences between wrong and right. with today's bottom down teaching such discernment and social intelligence is lost.

Wonderful picture! Even though film noir is my favorite genre, I'd never before had the opportunity to see this one. Gritty urban criime drama at it's best. Very touching ending...where Conte's hero-worshiping brother cries on cop Mature's shoulder. Loved the use of Neumans's "Street Scene" as the theme. THANKS a million for posting this for us to enjoy!!! Happy New Year to you & everyone else here at youtube!!! :)
