@taylorlautnerS2 she is a junior but she can compete in senior. same as mao, she went for senior grand prix but went for junior worlds. at the age 15-16, woman are allowed to compete at both senior and junior.
To be honest, I don't see the big deal. Every year there are girls that they say, "Oh, she could be the next great one," and they fizzle out. Gao is good, but she has a lot of room for improvement. She had no pressure on her here, it will be interesting to see how she handles that this year at Nationals. And puberty, that could throw a kink in things.
I love the music she skates to. Philip Glass' music is so beautiful and I love his score to 'The Hours'. This season, too- Christina chooses music that is off the beaten track and I appreciate it!!
I just got the chills....she has Brian under her belt and I feel the FUTURE Yuna Kim! So cool! US really needs a star performer right now. Mirai and Rachael are great skaters but for me I don't feel that star power like I do with Yuna Kim. But this girl has the potential!

She's 16 and almost a half and 5'3" so she may not grow much more. She is thin but she's not much smaller than Mao or Yuna, I don't expect her to have a big growth spurt at 17, she has only grown a little taller in the past 2 years so she's likely just petite. Yuna was built like Christina when she was 16 and she has changed a little since but it hasn't affected her skating ability.

Christina has a much better technique than Caroline, because Christina, is more an athletic type of figure skater built on speed, and not just because she has a better coach. Chrstina is more determined and Caroline, is just quite the opposite of Christina. Christina was chosen by the coach of Yu Na Kim, because she has a similar drive and ambition that Yu Na Kim has. Orser is about creating fine skaters, Christina Gao and Yu Na Kim are the results.
WOW! A friend on Facebook told me about her - and he was right - SO much potential! Brian Orser seems to be a GREAT trainer - he also trains Adam Rippon.
Her coach is Brian Orser and she also gets trained at Toronto Cricket club with Yuna. Apparently she and Yuna are very close, and he sees Yuna not as a friend but also a role model and mentor. Maybe that's why, I see a lot of technical strenths in her performance
That is a truly horrible thing to say, kmkayluh! Rachael is not fat- I imagine she'd have to be pretty damn muscular to land all those jumps like she does, Rachael Flatt is like a jumping machine, she just keeps pumping out all those triples.
I agree that Christina Gao's figure is great, though- her artistry and technique is fabulous as well. And I love Philip Glass, so I very much approve of her music choice! Very excited to see where Christina goes!!
yuna used to be built like that at her age and now she has the perfect body for jumping. she reminds me a lot of yuna so I don't think puberty should affect her too much
honestly i can't see her future on jumps.she is thin and underweight,so she jumps easily. but when she grows up,they are not high enough to roated in the air.hope i could say this is untrue in future.
ayamasamtu, I'd imagine that when she grows up, she'll gain strength with her training (and perhaps muscle mass as she physically matures), continue improving her jump technique and thus be able to keep fully rotating jumps like she's doing now. She's very talented and Brian Orser is one amazing coach. What a lovely choice of music from The Hours!
