  • Truely one of the bast voices of all time. love this song.

  • he sure would

  • right there it is i got goose bumps all over every time i hear it god bless you

  • Loved to hear him.

  • My favorite song , of Keith's !

  • This guy still puts anything called "country music" today to shame. If an alien landed and wanted to hear in one song, real country music, I'd play this one.

  • he was a true legend

  • We used to play this song in my band we had the best steel guitar player in the Niagara region playing .. Lou was awesome and a lefty so a special steel was made for him

  • I am discovering a whole new world of country singers through you tube - thanks for this experience

  • love you and miss you,ky miss you to

  • Hands down one of the greatest voices there ever was in country music. But as long as we play his music, he is never really gone. Never get tired of hearing Keith sing.

  • keith was a great country music artist he wil always be remembered by me and he was way to young to die

  • the man is a absolute country genius, 32 was way to young to go be with the lord, but thank god for vidieos so we all can still hear that angeic voice of keths

  • Keith was and always will be the pride of Sandy Hook, Kentucky

  • what a shame, such a great voice that came to an end way to soon. definitely a legend. thanks for sharing the videos.

  • travel to sandyhook,ky an see if he is forgotten! sandy hook is down the road from where I finished highschool...people around that area still listen to his music an he is very much remembered! Keith Is A Legend!

  • just think what could have been it`s so sad

  • Such a shame he is no longer with us

  • In the intro to "I Never Go Around Mirrors," he talked about being a huge fan of Lefty Frizzell, which is obvious after the second measure of any song he ever performed. Sadly, he literally emulated Lefty to death.

  • By the time he did this he had one foot in the grave and was lifting the other foot to climb in. That gaunt appearance his liver was pretty much shot. Sadly loved the bottle more than music or Lorrie:(

  • I have loved this song since I was a young women in love. I have since married, had kids and moved on to another life. This song is still part of my life and will always be. He is exceptional in his performances and songs. What a wonderful character.!!!! He will be loved for years.

  • how long after this did he die

  • @cupcake11111s Im guessing this is jan or feb 1989 he died may 9 1989!

  • Great performance, and he always had sang w/ true feelings w/ out a dollar sign on for his performances. Lot of respect for him & his talent. I don't have any idols except the Lord Jesus Christ;, but I would have liked to meet him, & talked to him! I'm a mid aged male, & not gay; but he was also a very handsom man. I feel for his wife & family he left behind; & I'm sure he loved them & showed his love for them more than a lot of men. I could be wrong, but don't think so.

  • What the hell happened to COUNTRY MUSIC!

  • My goodness, I thought I had a great country voice, but this man just drives me to be a better singer. I'm a grown ass man and his voice gives me the chills. I wish he was still here to this day so I could see him perform live

  • @ameritechdj david allan coe is not even in the same category as any of those guys

  • I THINK IF KEITH WERE ALIVE TODAY HE'D BE A MEMBER OF THE GRAND OLE OPRY

  • The only artist that could have gave George Strait a run for the most #1 hits. So sad!

  • @vozzervox I to have fought that battle..

  • TREMENDOUS ENTERTAINER! WE LOST HIM MUCH TOO SOON....

  • The best!!!!

  • @ameritechdj Um No Show Jones, Merle and Charlie Daniels are all still alive.

  • It breaks my heart that he died so young, he was truely talented and country music was so blessed to have him for the time they did, I can only imagine what he could have continiued to accomplish if he were still alive today. He was true to his heart, his fans and to country and yes he is a legend and wil always live through his music.

  • Another legend gone too soon! Was a teenager when he died. Every word of every song he sang touches me.

  • While the rest of my generation has spent years listening to N*Sync, Britney Spears, the Backstreet Boys, and all the others I don't remember at this point, I was listening to and singing Keith Whitley. I still think I made the right choice.

  • you can see it on his face and in his eyes that somethin jus wasnt right. But the man will always be a legend and the best country singer ever in my book. R.I.P. Keith.

  • He followed Hanks footsteps. I just don't get it. They were so young and had a lot to live for. :(

  • Often imitated, but there will only ever be one Keith Whitley

    John Russell(UK)

  • this guy was so awesome!!!

  • Who knows what "might of been", I was listening mostly to rock at the time and remember being drawn back to country some by his great songs. "It aint nothing" is what people that didn't know his music got to hear after his death and that's the one that sticks with me. It showed his great vocal range and style like Hank's Masterpiece "Lovesick blues". The truth is I was going through the same thing he was and his death didn't change that. Garth's the only country singer anywhere close to Hank

  • lovely singer, very kind man, i met him yrs and yrs ago in TX......he sang with his whole heart like my hero, Steve Earle, who also knew his one lifetime of demons.....those of us who are recovering addicts and alcoholics take great inspiration from folks like Keith, God bless him and his family and all of the folks who loved him and stayed behind....

  • I cant believe 2 people didnt like this song,

  • @ameritechdj your wrong, as long as we play and respect their music their spirit will bever die or be forgotten

  • One hell of a voice...he's been missed even after all these years.

  • Almost every time I sang in the bars, I would end up doing this. Did it once at One Liners. My drinkin days have been gone for a long time-but Keith stays with me. And thanks for the dances, Garry Barnes.I wonder if anyone really knew how gentle you could be.

  • As you look back on what happened to country in the past two decades, it becomes more and more clear that we could not afford this loss.

  • Thanks SO MUCH for sharing these songs with us hun!! They remind me of my mom too.. when I hear them.. He was her favorite.. and mine.

  • great writer and singer his music will live on

  • Believe it or not, I still have this album...on cassette! Hahaha! My mom and I would take turns harboring it especially after I left to serve our great country with the U.S. Navy. All of Keith Whitley's songs remind me so mucy of mom. God bless you all.

  • Nearly all of your videos of keith are well over 100,000 views. Legends never die.

  • @mdgtrpckr Well said, Jeff. Keith lives! He lives on in all of us.

  • @mdgtrpckr Amen, he absolutely was one of the greats, I cried for weeks when he passed away, he is still and will always be one of my favorites.

  • R.I.P, Keith. I was just out of high school when you passed away. I remember hearing it on the radio and sitting there in shock for a very long time. You were my favorite country artist then, and still are today. Your music and memory live on forever. <3

  • @ameritechdj Rip Keith, as you died on my birthday in 1989, what a talent and a good friend by Keith

  • the 2 people who disliked this can kiss my ass :)

  • great song and great voice, I just hope he fired his hair stylist after this gig! RIP Keith.

  • keith is my 3rd all time favorite, only to george and george. and you can agree or disagree with me on this, but if keith was still around. he would be 1 of 4 singer out there still keeping it country, which are george, alan and brad...,

  • True country.....Just like the legends.....George Jones, Merle, Kris Kristopherson and so on. He left us way too early. He would have been up there with the best in country music! RIP Keith...Your music lives on!

  • Thank you MAMsMom97 for posting many of these videos. He is one of my favorite musicians and I'm pretty sure I have all of his CD's. I didn't know Keith or his music when he was alive, so, I didn't get to see these performances anywhere, and I appreciate getting to see these. It is a real tribute and it's nice to "see" a legend at work. Just wish I could've gotten to experiece these live or at least on the television. I hope sometime to make the trip to Sandy Hook to see his hometown.

  • Country at its best! Thanks again!

  • I loved hearing Keith Whitley sing traditional country music! Thanks for posting this video. This live version of "I Never Go Around Mirrors" should go down as one of the greatest live country performances of all time. I wonder what he would think about the "new" country music on the radio. Thanks again and God bless.

  • One of the true traditional country music heroes of the eighties. Sure could've taught guys like Tim Magraw and Kenny Chesney how to sing a true country song! Thanks for posting this. Enjoyed it.

  • How did keith die?

  • @pamela31301 - Tragically, he died of alcohol poisoning.

  • i miss keith

  • I know what you are talking about cgill about the cocaine. He was doing a lot near the end and it makes you not realize how much you are drinking. He had spent the whole weekend before partying and i'm sure he felt he needed a little bump to go golfing with his brother in law and ended up drinking too much without Lorrie there who he begged not to go on tour. I felt he kinda knew he was near the end.

  • I love this song the most of all of his songs.

  • Charlie Daniels is still alive

  • @ameritechdj Charlie D

  • I remember being little (let's say I was 2, and was born in '92), and watching the music video to "Don't Close Your Eyes" on CMT. At that young age, I never knew Keith had already passed away, until I saw Garth Brooks's "The Dance" video, with clips of Keith's "Homecoming '63" with Lorrie Morgan. Truly, the oldies from the 80s-90s bring back fond memories. Thank you for posting such a wonderful video of a voice that still rings true after his unexpected passing 21 years ago.

  • Keith could have been our George Jones, he was that talented.

  • I was asleep and my daughter called me, sobbing, and told me he died. I cried and cried. I cried when Kurt Cobain died. We don't get to see many musical geniuses and they were definitely that.

  • This song was extremely popular and was one of his "trademark" songs. Someone isn't old enough to remember him very well.

  • They say the day he died, he woke up, hugged his mother, joked with his brother in law about going out later to do something. He layed back down and died of alcohol poisoning. What a voice he had

  • thanks

  • very good, i never knew he died so young..thanks for posting..

  • the lase time on grand old opry

  • I REMEMBER WATCHING THIS!!!! MAN, THIS BRINGS BACK SOME GOOD MEMORIES,KEITH WHITLEYS ONE OF THE ONES WHO TURNED ME ON TO COUNTRY MUSIC!!! THANKS FOR POSTING!!!!! THANKS YOUTUBE FOR ALLOWING THIS!!!

  • Someone who does Keith Whitley song very well is Chris Young, check him out. He is wonderful. :)

  • no voice like Keith's... so SAD... STILL. miss u Keith, rest in PEACE...

  • HE CAN SING RIP MR keith whitley

  • keith was and still is a ture master of country music, his writing and work is an icon and he will always leave foot prints in the sand of time.. Rod in hazel park mi.

  • alan jackson made a whole tribute album of keith whitley he is definetly not forgotten

  • Comment removed

  • @ronaldleenext2 Not at all.

  • This is was the first country singer,The best, that I bought his cassette tape.lol,I still have it after all these years.I mean these days there are like 2 good songs on a album,But every single song and everyone one his albums were GREAT!!!,He can still get me emotional just after listening to one song;He was the best glad I have all you out that feel thr same.

  • After the Hag he's my favorite country singer of all time. I get a lump in my throat whenever I hear "Tell Lorrie I Love Her."

I know it was a tribute but does anyone else get tired of hearing the Alisson Kraus version of "When You Say Nothing At All" getting played more than Keith Whitley's version or is it just me? I guess thats why I have my IPod, most of the new stuff just doesn't do it for me.

  • What A Voice

    JR

  • My all time favorite country singer..His voice is just mesmerizing.. Shame he went so young..Love all his music.

  • Met Keith one time in Jack Mcfadden's office. What a great guy. Really nice and caring.

  • He was F@#$%^&*ing awesome. It blows that he died

  • Keiths career was just starting to blossum when he was taken away from us way too soon. If he were still with us he would have been a SUPERSTAR by now. RIP Keith

  • @Mattea68 Amen to that, Mattea!!

  • The Opry has gotten pathetic in recent years...Keith was a true artist and sounded even better live..Can't say that about today's radio "heroes"...There will never be another Keith Whitley.

  • I cry now all these years later, just as I did then. He left this life way too early. I hope he's singing his heart out in Heaven.

  • great, just great

  • Such a beautiful song, so sad that someone couldn't help him or be there for him. He had so much talent!

  • this is great

  • LOVE KEITH WHITLEY. SUCH A LOSS TO THE MUSIC WORLD. RIP KEITH. WE WILL ALWAYS HAVE YOUR MUSIC THAT YOU LEFT BEHIND. THANK YOU.

  • A true master of country music & thanks to all for keeping Keith's memory alive! :-)

  • Have always loved this song. thank you for posting,

  • One of the very best. He died way to young.

  • @ameritechdj I don't think he's forgotten. After all, he will be finally enshrined in the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame in April 2011, and who knows? The Country Music Hall of Fame can't be far behind. Artists such as Ashton Shepherd, Joe Nichols, & Lee Ann Womack have paid tribute to him in their songs. No, I don't think he's forgotten.

  • @MAMsMom97 He Is #111111111111111

  • @MAMsMom97 He Is #111111111111111 Lou,ky doned1259@aol.com

  • Seriously, cannot watch this enough, must have seen this so many times, and it brings tears to my eyes.....my God, he was the best singer ever in country music and always will be past and present, this is why still today people are inspired to write, sing and be like he was, and why millions and millions of fans still today remember and love him....Keith RIP buddy.

  • I was almost 2 years old when he died, but i remember growing up to his music on the radio when I was a kid, and now once in a blue moon, the country stations will play a KW song. He was taken from the world way to early. I'm pretty sure if he was still alive, he would have a 50 Number Ones record sitting right next to Mr. Straits. They just don't make music like this any more.

  • would country have went this way if here were still alive?

  • Guys you captured the moment right but this was not his last great. It may be his last apperance at Grand Ole Opry. but he is not known for this. he is known for When You Say Nothing At All................. for those of you who don't know.. When you say nothing at all was his last hit... 1989....there will never be another like him so enjoy and please respect him

  • @kinged123 That song was only his 2nd of a total of 5 consecutive #1 hits. After that song went to #1, the next 3 singles, "I'm No Stranger to the Rain," "I Wonder Do You Think of Me," and "It Ain't Nothin'" all went to #1. And after that song, he had 2 Top 10's and 2 Top 20's. So "When You Say Nothing At All" was not Keith's last hit.

  • I agree with hunter5ohio! I have always said that! Keith was the best! RIP

  • please ....the best country talent ...ever....this cat died too young......dont do cocaine my youtube brothers and sisters......and yes i know he died of an "alcohol overdose". That shit will change your life. Peace out.

  • Again, I just have to say, if Keith was still alive people would be saying "Garth who?"

    RIP Bluebird

  • I sooooo agree with you!

  • I lost my father on this day 13 yrs ago today and we played this at his funeral and every year on this day I play this song. I miss him more and more as the years go by. what a great song!!!!!

  • For some reason I've always thought of I never go around mirrors as being sort of like Keiths requiem, the pain and the struggles that he was not able to overcome are perfectly stated in that song

  • I was 12 yrs old when KW died and was going through my first love break up. I now its funny now but i was a heart broken young man and the death of Mr. Whitley made it worse. I grew up loving all of his music and wish for country music he was still around today. He paved the way for Alan Jackson and a few others if you ask me! Neil Wallace Tampa Fl.

  • Classic Keith! What a terrible loss to country music when he passed away. I saw him live in Steubenville, Ohio in 1987 while I was working on contract there. Took a workmate with me who wasn't into Country Music and he was really impressed with Keith. Incidently, Lane Brody and Thom Bresch were also on same show - more great talents.

Keith played all his own lead guitar work and was quite a picker on his Telecaster.

  • oh goodness, never got to see keith and have never met anyone who has. it had to be such a fantastic memory for you

  • @phatfarm. Country music is big enough for both George and Keith had Keith lived....

  • Such a wonderful performance! I could watch this again many times!

IMHO, if Keith were alive today, he'd be one of the biggest Country Legends who ever lived. But wait...He still is a Great Country Legend!

  • I got the Keith Whitley tribute album as a gift after allison Krause came out with her song....and i cannot stop listening to it...one of the best Country artists ever. My favorite is AJ but i love Keith Whitley's work as well...may god blesss your day and sun shine on the ones you love....Mark..

  • Keith was the greatest ever. If he were still alive today, he would be THE icon of country music instead of George Strait.

  • @PhatFarm60

In my not so humble opinion Keith is THE icon anyway. George Strait can't hold Keith's jockstrap. And I do like George, but he can't even compare to Keith. In short, I agree with you. :)

  • Keith was beautiful, but looking at him from the side I realize he was so tiny...then again, so is a stick of dynamite!

  • i think this was 1989 just before he died. i noticed the same thing. it's hard to watch him thru the years.

  • He was one of a kind. Golden voice & looks to match.

  • @laurajoseph1 Amen 2 that.

  • yes he was

  • A beautiful voice, indeed. Everytime I hear it I think....What's up, with that hair, dude?

  • The hair did not help him sing any better or any worse. The hair was what was popular in the '80s, and had nothing to do with the voice. So, you say you get a mental picture of the hair when you hear his voice???

  • @Sleeko11 i love the hair bud we need more hair like that now a days

  • Keith Whitley has the most beautiful voice. It is so sexy and every time I hear him sing i get chills.

  • Wow... what a powerful and heartfelt song... no wonder Whitley "lives on" in the minds of so many. Thanks for posting! * * * * *

  • I miss the days when country sounded like this. and I'm only 33. Keith was the best male country singer of all time, IMHO... We lost him too soon!

  • when did he die

    this was beautiful.

thank you elisa for sending me this.?

  • i didnt want to but i went on to work at the chicken plant and cryed silent tears the whole night, kieth left us to soon

  • you never know what you have until it's gone

  • Thanks so much for uploading the different "Live" performances Sharon!

I could watch these performances over & over again!

There is no other singer/artist who can sing "Live" like Mr. Keith Whitley does IMHO!

R.I.P. Mr. Keith Whitley...IMHO, your music will live on forever and a day & hopefully inspire up & coming artists for years to come to compose & sing as Keith Whitley, Lefty Frizzell, etc, etc, did! :-)

  • Real, Live, OLD Country! the way the good lord meant it to be...

I've got a song I'm writing about it, first couplet goes like this:

"turn the radio on, and tell me what your hearin'---is it the latest country version of britney spears?

or is it some ol city slick, crooning phony yearnings---thinks that crispy new cowboy hat somehow makes him real"

  • i like it

  • justinother40, and tiggr1979, you are two great people.. and justinother40, that must have been a true honor, especially that close to his death.. thats a memory you will remember till the day you die. keep up the good work brothers, and lets stop the murder on music row.. i think george and alan would be proud.

  • my prayers and my sympthies goes out to the keith whitley family we love you and we will miss you keith whtley thank you keith whtley for al the great memories and great songs

  • i love it.....!!!

  • When I still worked in radio I had the good fortune to introduce this gentleman onstage and record my chat with him on his bus. A real gentleman, extremely polite and kind. That was Saturday night at the Armadillo Ballroom in Brazoria, TX....a couple of days before he died. What a loss.

  • You know whats sad ya'll?? I'm only thirty BUT thank god I grew up on Merle, George, Lefty, ect. Most of my generation can't get over no talent faggots likeKenny Chesney Keith Urban and the list is too long. It pisses me off to listen to country radio these days. And it really pisses me off to go into wal mart and Keith, Merle , Earl Thomas, the good CD's, are only five bucks and you pay twenty for a damn Kenny CD its a damn shame and disrespectful to the ones that made it what it is today.

  • The best version of "I Never Go Around Mirrors" I've ever heard and it's been covered by Merle Haggard, but Keith really puts the soul in the lyrics and the pedal steel sets the mood. Lefty would have been proud of this cover.

  • @blackwater5 Whitey Shaffer who wrote the song..Even wrote an EXTRA verse for the song when Keith recorded it...go back and listen to Merle and Lefty...Their version doesn't have the second verse..

  • thanks for this post, brings back memories of high school and simplier days. cant believe he's gone.

  • Lefty Frizzell was such an awesome song writer.

This is one song I absolutely love and thanks so much for this great performance :-)

  • They say in the 80s and 90s they let anybody write songs for country music. Now days the songs have to be perfect to get an artist to cut it. If thats true then why does all the new country songs suck so bad, and the classic country have such soul to it. Everything from the notes they play and the words they sing are just garbage. Hopefully enuff people stop buying the new country stuff it'll bring back original country, but i think thats wishful thinking!

  • Amen!!! New "country" SUCKS. I am 49 years old and will always love !00% PURE COUNTRY MUSIC.

  • twittyfan1 is right I'm 23 and my dad brought me up on this sutff 60s, 70s, and 80s country are awesome stuff...then a few years ago it started going contemperary and the local country station around here started playing a lot more ballads...so I quit listening to them...now its mostly classic rock and classic country

  • No one in country music today comes even slightly close to Keith Whitley. He truely was the greatest.

  • really sad to listen to him after hes gone ...........:( he had such a great voice

  • I don't think anbody to this day can sing live like Keith Whitley does!

    DaveR

  • This is wonderful! I kinda wish I`d been there to see this!

Rest in Peace Dear Keith Whitley :-(

    What a talent!

    DaveR :-)

  • God rest Keith!

  • The022450, I know alot of AM who really love country music too. My youngest daughter summed it up one day. She was only about 6 yrs old, and loves country music too. She said, you know it kind of gets in your soul. She is so right.

  • look at his eyes when he's started the last song they should have did some thing, everybody near him knew what was going on
