DO NOT BUY SEAGATE HARDDRIVES! My 500GB just broke, after 3 months of use, it started humming very loudly, made a huge CLUNK and stopped. seagate WILL NOT Recover your data as part of warranty, and want you to pay 1400 (yes, ONE THOUSAND FOUR HUNDRED) dollars to recover data that was lost because of their product. Do not buy, you WILL be sorry... (customer service is horrible)
Data recovery isn't easy from what I've heard, the only easy way to recover lost data is if it's backed up. But from what I hear it's a real pain to recreate fried data.
The reason is $1400 is because they have to completely dismantle the drive and place the platters on another identical drive or a machine to read the data. So back your shit up and stop complaining.
I would not complain if I did not have a reason. My main hdd failed 3 days later and it is not that difficult to replace a motor on a harddrive that it would cost 1400 dollars. And back up harddrives should not break after 4 months, agreed?
Hey I got this hard drive from maplin in the uk and its price was 79.99 but there was a sale on so it mite be different now hope that helped
