I think he means that when someone insults you or even punches or kicks you, he is helping you eliminate karma. There is a saying I read once that goes somelike "My enemies harm me, summoned by my bad karma".
Cool video, thanks for posting. I've always felt an attraction to Daoism, but other than reading a few books, never seriously looked into it.
I understand that the Wudang Taoist priest lived in the Wudang mountain, breeding bees and he claims he is still a child. He spent his days listening to 'troubled souls' that travel up to the mountain to talk to him about life and tao. Then he pack water and fruits for his visitors to consume on their way down the mountain. Full of smiles and kindness. Nothing in term of material being. 贾道士。武当山的神隐道人
消灾 means rid calamity (literally). or taking misery away, as translated. If a guy hits me, and I do not hit back.,I sort of achieve certain merit, thereby reducing my calamity, assuming my merit offsetted my calamity .
If I hit back, I will be reinforce the cycle of violence.. This is like the Christian saying that if your enemy hit you, you offer the other cheek for him to hit. Sooner the other side might realize that violence will not solve the problem. Just like Gandhi's non violence.
Therefore, we can't do much else but relax for 581 seconds, pretend to be close to the likes of you, before we have to wake up to our reality waiting right next to the screen, where bodies are of flesh and bones and strikes and insults hurt so bad, it makes the master's words sound ugly and sarcastic.
The attitudes displayed in this video are most admirable. Unfortunately, it is a lot more difficult, if not impossible to achieve these outside a harmonic environment like Mount Wudang. Privileged is, who may spend their life there, tought and inspired by those, who already did. The teachings, though, transported to the outside world, are like the marvelous view: Unreal like a dream and far away from the every day life of us "ordinary" people.
As far as I can tell the lessons aren't 'out there' but within. Experiences are the tools of learning, the teacher is within.
As far as I can tell with aggression directed at the self, when there is no self there is no harm. This concept seems empty because it is all theory right? It still hurts whether I am disassociated from my ego or not. But wisdom is not about avoiding circumstances, is it? Wisdom is about knowing why circumstances occur, and how to make the best of each moment... Maybe..
So if a guy smashes your face... is he giving you a gift? How can your misery be lifted by being insulted or hit? Furthermore... if you dont insult or hit people, are you giving them misery?
@rastu84 we create our own world. by hitting back after being hit we perpetuate action and reaction. by not returning the agression we break the chain of suffering
If you insult me you are giving me a gift. It's called opportunity. I was the dorky white guy in a neighborhood of crack dealers and gangs. I became friends with most of my neighbors simply because I could not be insulted or attacked. I have walked away from muggers, I mean literally walked away, while they still decided what they were going to do. The dhao is about seeing the moment and reacting accordingly.
Hi, I have a question about the lesson regarding retaliation: "Hitting me/Insulting me, he takes my misery FROM me..." "If you retaliate it is you that can't accept HIS gift, and thus return it..."
The insight of this teaching escapes me (mainly about the "gift"). Can you please explain in more detail what he means by this, youlihan?
is it not a GIFT, if i take misery FROM u? I mean, to give a GIFT, we dont really need to GIVE something, it can also be made by TAKING (un-need)things.
That was fantastic! Thank very much for sharing this teaching It has opened my eyes and enabled me to solve a problem I have faced for 10 years. I am grateful to you.
Very beautiful. Thank you very much.

No it isn't and if you don't know that, you've either lived too long on Mount Wudang or not yet long enough. ;)
However, thanks for the videos, keep them coming, we need those dreamy seconds.
