  • POP gos the mouse's abdomen....

  • These guys have some truly wicked teeth, I got to look at a larger ones teeth and soon after he missed getting ahold of my hand by a pubic hair. Put the fear of god into me when it comes to blue tails. Animals that are definitely to be respected.

  • i have a monitor that literally took out a mouses intestine. he scratched its stomach and they came ou.

  • how often do you feed them

  • @noypiroller

    every other day

  • dam bro thats fuckin awosome man that thing eat 3 in ah row jesus lol

  • About 2.5 to 3 feet

  • @ChristopheRosenbauer

ok thats definitely not a 6 month old specimen, its not quite full grown, i would say sub adult 1.5-2yrs old. your lucky yours isnt aggressive, many of these imports are very aggressive. My best suggestion is to build its trust with you, they are naturally a very skittish animal. try tong feeding it for a few months, eventually it will allow you to pet it. Handle it for about an hour on a regular daily basis. this will really help out alot, the rest is in your hands.

  • I would really appreciate some advice on how to tame these. I have a six month old one. Doesn't whip bit or hiss but cannot stand being held. Can you help me?

  • @ChristopheRosenbauer

sure sorry about the late response i get a ton of comments, and messages

Adults are very hard to tame down, becuz thy are wc and have never been held, they will never fully be TAME, but with time may be accustomed to being handled.

As juvies they are much easier to work with, and can become socialable with proper work.

    how large is it now?

  • Do you have any advice on taming? I have a six month old. Trying to handle it everyday. It won't bite or whip or hiss just cant stand being held

  • alright thanks.

I'm actually looking on getting my first monitor. I've been researching green tree, blue tail and peach throats for a few months and my plan of action is to build a cage until the abosolute perfect conditions have bee met and then buy the lizard. I understand that they are not beginnner monitors but it's not my first time working with them, just owning. anyway, which would you recommend out of the three for a newer owner?

  • @shaycarisseyo

To be quite honest with you, my best recommendation for you is to obtain a Jobiensis, they are rather easy to care for and not as costly as Prasinus, or Doreanus. Peach throats are rather well mannered and do great in captivity and can make good pets. i dont recommend blue tails to ANYONE unless you get a baby, or are attempting to breed only. GTM are great and very docile, but can be hard captives, unless you know what your doing.

  • could you keep one of these in the same kind of enclosure as a green tree monitor?

  • @shaycarisseyo

yeah, however they do get much larger and more robust than the prasinus complex.

Same husbandry conditions and a larger cage is recommended.

  • those mice are like rat size

  • jeez, fuckin brutal :D

i wouldn't feed him/her in the cage if you use bark substrate, it might cause indigestion

Also makes it easier to clean up the mess

    nice monitor anyway

  • jesus that was brutal! awesome monitor though!

  • so these monitors get big would a cage have to be a tall cage or long

  • @AlbertoMuse

You need a tall cage to properly house theese monitors, they are arboreal monitors

  • @repticguy so at a reptile expo these were 250 is that alot foe these and how much do you sell them for

  • @AlbertoMuse

$250 is ok, thats retail price, a pretty high retail price for a reptile expo though, my price is $150-215 depending on size

  • @repticguy how much for a baby

  • @repticguy ]

my very first lizard was a Tokay Gecko, very aggressive.

  • that was really nice to watch

  • how big is ur monitor

  • well she is no longer mine but she was about 3.5ft

  • That is a beautiful monitor. I am thinking about getting a monitor. ether a savanna, green tree, or a nile. Which would you recommend?

  • If money isn't an issue i would get a green tree preferably a hatchling, cause adults are usually wc, and have never been handled before, and are really skittish

  • I would have to wait a long time before I can save up to $775 for a green tree but I would love one. I will probably get a savanna just because they are cheap and beautiful. I also will try to breed them because me and a friend are going to open a pet shop for exotic animals(monitors, tegus, boas, pythons, you name it we will probably have it). We want to breed them so we don't have to continuously have to buy them from other breeders.

  • dud the best thing to get mab would be a savanna, niles are a pain in the neck

  • @killiansherps

I don't mind pains though. I like a challenge when it comes to herp keeping.

  • yh def think you should get a green tree if money isnt an problem and if you are ok with a big big lizard then a nile is cool to otherwise a savanna

  • @maximiliaan1995

I am getting a Green Iguana this summer so no, size is not really much of a factor.

  • how big of a cage are you going to need once full grown do you think?

  • well a typical full grown blue tail reaches about 3-4 ft, and they arent really robust lizards, the are arboreal so the minimum size cage i would recommend a cage that measures 4ft tall, 4ft long, and 2 ft deep.

  • are they ok with handeling or not

  • You just have to love the New Guinea monitors!!

  • are blue tails aggressive?

  • i wouldnt say they are aggressive, they are a bit more skittish & shy tho. its basicly like having a mangrove monitor, it just depends on the individual you have, if you work at it they can become used to you.

  • how much do they usually cost?

  • thats a tough one because everyone has different prices, the lowest i have seen is 160, the highest 350, and the average is normally 200-250, they used to be alot more but now prices have been dropping because ppl dnt hav hundreds of $ to spend on a lizard. thats for wc specimens that are almost 4ft, if you get a juvie its gunna be about 300-350, plus shipping because no one breeds them

  • Plus there more expensive side..

  • bad ass ...gotta love any monitor 5*

  • haha yeah thanks

  • nice looking monitor 5/5 stars

  • thanks

  • you are RICH!!!!!!!!!!
