Calzaghe would not even phase Pavlik. Pavlik's style is Calzaghe's weakness. When Calzaghe throws combinations, he leaves himself open and relys on the other fighter to be only defensive during those and no counter punching. Pavlik has proven to have a great chin and body, and he possibly has the greatest conditioning in the sport today. And his aggresive pressing will discard Calzaghe much so.

I think you are confused. Pavlik is in a differ3ent league than Calzaghe. Pavlik has fought, and has been fighting, and continues to fight, fighters in the middleweight class. The middleweight class is more volitile than Calzaghe's lightweight class. In the middle weight class getting hit by a punch, even if you block i partialy, can still result in a knockout. Calaghe cannot counter the force of Pavlik, he can punch back, but pavlik can take his hits better than anyone he has ever fought.

Haha not quite. It's hard to call someone a bum when they win the middleweight championship of the world by knocking out a champion who beat Bernard Hopkins twice, but that's just my humble opinion. In a sense I'm sort of glad this happened to Pavlik. He kept talking about moving up in weight but I always wanted him to stay at MW and defend his title. Hopefully this will be a wake up call to stay at 160 and take care of business there.

Well my friend not always in a year you fight with the best ones, you have to take some "easy shots" too and give opportunity to ohers that are going up in ranks. BUt to be honest KELLY PAVLICK is one of the strong boxers in this division and if he fight with Arthur Abraham, he will handle his punches. Take a good look to the fights he did with Jermain Taylor and you will find out what kind of fighter he is. Jermain taylor is fast and can hit hard but was unable to really hurt him.

Here's a fun fact for you: Kelly is only 26 years old, the age of most prospects and he's already a champion. He beat every contender his promoter put in front of him because it's TOP RANK who makes the fights happen, not Pavlik. If you listen to every Miguel Cotto interview he always says "I'm just an employee of TR and I fight whoever they put in front of me." Kelly may be a bit more aggressive in who he wants to fight, like when he called out JC, but at the end of the day TR picks the fight.

I agree that Calzaghe is a great fighter, but, saying he beat all the US had to offer is ridiculous... Hopkins, over the hill. RJJ, pretty much out of his prime. Jeff Lacy, obviously lost. Those are the 3 big US fighters he beat/will beat, but those are hardly credible opponents. Now if Calzaghe faught Pavlik and won, I'd give him his props. Calzaghe would not even phase Pavlik. Pavlik's style is Calzaghe's weakness. When Calzaghe throws combinations, he leaves himself open and relys on the other fighter to be only defensive during those and no counter punching. Pavlik has proven to have a great chin and body, and he possibly has the greatest conditioning in the sport today. And his aggresive pressing will discard Calzaghe much so.

pavlik is a dog in the ring he dont stop coming forward, i reakon he would beat calzaghe now but in my opinion calzaghe is just past he's prime, when calzaghe did a virtual shut out to jeff lacy AND YES i know jeff lacy was over rated but calzaghe's skills and fitness was still world class and would of beaten the now pavlik or at any time of pavliks caree. hope they do fight but its doubtful

Pavliks a great fighter and one of the best at the moment, beating Locket il concede is impressive but the talk of him fighting calzaghe would just be a step to far, hes got a great future in the sport and dosent need to have a stain on his recored and should consider building his unbeaten recored and focus on becoming a better fighter before he should face calzaghe, i dont even think pavlik want to fight him because there could only be one outcome to that fight a KO for calzaghe.

Calzaghe legend killer?....To me the situation isnt black and white.. i do think he's class, i also think he is a likable guy BUT i also think he fought Hopkins 7 years too late, fought Chris Eubank at the end of his career and is now lookin to fight Jones 10 years too late... I'm not saying he only fought bums but the fact remains, for whatever reason he did NOT fight the elite boxers of his time at the right time..

Pavliks whiteness is as important to me as Pacman is in the Phillipines. Joe has turned down to fght Pavlik in Wales Oct18 in his biggest payday and most important fight for his legacy. Then Joe and Enzo say they want Roy Jones? What are we supposed to think? He's 36yrs old and outweighs Pav and has much more exp than Pav who is 26. Enzo and Lockett know very well Joe wouldn't win. To Joes fans reading, what makes Pav truly the best imo is 1st he has awesome pwr beyond belief but unleashes it only when needed.2nd he forces the other fighter to fight him even if they're def masters! 3rd he shows unbelievable composure under pressure 4 he has imprved his def & ftwrk. dramatically.5th he is the most grnded wrkr the way he lives. I think you are confused. Pavlik is in a differ3ent league than Calzaghe. Pavlik has fought, and has been fighting, and continues to fight, fighters in the middleweight class. The middleweight class is more volitile than Calzaghe's lightweight class. In the middle weight class getting hit by a punch, even if you block i partialy, can still result in a knockout. Calaghe cannot counter the force of Pavlik, he can punch back, but pavlik can take his hits better than anyone he has ever fought.

Calzaghe won't fight Pavlik Oct18 in Wales.The reigning 38yrold sup mid in the world who is 20lbs heavier then a 26yrold Pavlik refuses to fight him on the largest payday at the end of his career. Calzaghe has been advised well by his father not to fight Pavlik. Calzaghe cant hurt Pavlik he has no KO PWR. None. ronoman88- Calzaghe is not 20lbs Heavier than Pavlik He is naturally about the Same Weight as Pavlik is a big Middlweight and at 160lbs only has to put on a few pounds and would fight Calzaghe at 168 so 20lbs is rubbish and Calzaghe is 36 not 38!

calzaghe i think would be more fearful of a bout with pavlik than pavlik would.pavlik has way more power than calzaghe is technically strong and has a metal strength that i have never seen in a fighter.he does not get carried away with his emotions. he does tire in the late rounds.

10 years ago the Calzaghe-Jones fight was arranged and ready to be signed and sealed until at the 11th hour Jones unreasonably demanded 2/3rds of the fight purse. The Calzaghe camp were considering this when Jones revealed that he didn't want to fight in Wales so called it off. For Jones 10 years ago Calzaghe was a high risk fight for little reward, all of a sudden he's interested. Lockett never had the class to win this fight, he is an average boxer, Calzaghe would be too strong for this fella.

It's Calzaghe's own damn fault he didn't get a crack at Jones and Hopkins when those fights would have meant something. He can still fight guys like Taylor, Pavlik and Miranda. You don't see him calling these guys out though. I guess in 10 years you guys will just claim they all ducked Joe.
