  • I really admire the power and intensity he works into this piece. I don't know when I will ever be able to play this piece.

  • this song reaches the point where it stops being music but pure emotion

  • I've heard it said that good music is better than it can be played. For me this is one of those pieces, and luckily the playing is amazing too. thanks for uploading

  • WHY IS THIS PIECE SO HARD

  • I'd like to hear the person who hit "dislike" play this.

  • @jokerXL512 maybe its not that he doesnt like the playing, maybe he just dosnt like the way the song sounds , i mean just because you like classical music dosnt mean you have to like every song in the whole damn genre

  • @CeriousNick

    You're calling it a song...please stop that.

  • This piece always makes me cry. So beautifully played. Thanks for your posting.

  • @KPJP1978 I'm crying right now too. so beautiful and emotional

  • This is just pure music. So perfect, it does exactly what music is supposed to do, draw emotion.

  • An excellent piece of music to go along with the perfect Jew fro.... Magnificent!!!

  • Maisky the best playing the suites.

  • 0 dislikes, that's what I like to see

  • Masterful and elegant!

  • You can actually hear this suite performed on the 5 string cello right on youtube. Type in Josephine Van Lier.

  • I don't get when you use thumb, cuz violins dif of course and I'm learning cello...

  • Why all this critic about who plays best this piece, who plays better the other ? Every person is different and unique, so just listen to the music and no comparisons please :)

  • IM IN LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL PIECE!! ITS LIKE U CAN JUST CLOSE YOUR EYES AND IMAGINE A BEAUTIFUL BACKGROUND!!

  • Un Small observation for the lovers of the music of SR Edward Elgar Big Composer Englhish, that is: The any compass of you Symphony nº 1 he was mak the extract of this Sarabande of Bach, but everibody not yet mentioned that performance.

  • fantastisch :)

  • trivia: Suite 6 was written for a cello with 5 strings, an instrument that is now rarely heard.

  • @bachkirche

It's called a Violoncello Piccolo, and it's not that uncommon, you can find them a lot on various internet stores.

  • wunderschön

  • who was the east bztvp?

  • I love the way Sting did this in his new album (song called "You Only Cross My Mind In Winter")

  • This movement to me is more catchy and ten times more beautiful and elegant than anything heard on pop radio or Mainstream TV. I love this movement the most out of all six suites and this guy plays it excellently. The second best I've ever heard it played.

  • I'm pretty sure I saw a tear at the edge of his eye, and if it wasn't there than there was definately one on the edge of my eye.

  • it's a shame that people only hear the prelude of the first suite when they think bach. this music, on the other hand, is long forgotten, and little known. beautiful chords are the heart, soul, and center of this piece, and they have been done no dis-service here. Bravo!

  • Well, this whole suite was written for a cello with an E string, so that might explain why it's long forgotten. This movement is incredibly beautiful, though, I don't mean to take anything from that.

  • como habla ese chelo!!!!!! y el alma de johan sebastian bach

  • those suspensions and anticipations at the end get me every time

  • So lyrical....I wiped a tear from my face the first time i heard this.

  • i wipe a tear every time i hear it

  • Good!

  • One of the most beautiful and heartfelt pieces Bach ever wrote.

  • not just heartfelt but also lamented

i think he thought about he's lost childen(7 of them died)

  • Given the joyful and life-affirming nature of the 6th suite as a whole I find it unlikely that Bach was lamenting with this sarabande. I, personally, always thought of this movement as a moment of peace and reflection.

    Certainly it could be both.

  • yes emotion . i trawled he web to find this music after i heard it played for pope benedict an ground zero . this music is for your soul .

  • I love his emotion in it. Such a beautiful piece.

  • Such an amazing piece. My favorite out of all the suites. It's actually pretty difficult to play as well. Many might assume since it's not flight of the bumblebee it's not technically challenging; not so.

  • Most beautiful piece written for solo cello...

  • Its great but as a part of the whole suite I don't think it makes sense, because the sarabande should be slower than the allemande. Maybe if he picked up the allemande a little and slowed this down a little it would make more sense. Alone both are amazing but together they seem incongruent.

  • Every piece in Bach is different story, so we can't think of it as a whole suite. You can't automatically assume sarabande is slower than allemande. Besides, the notes and length of the notes are different. Personally I think Maisky's sarabande and allemande should be slower (imo).

  • Composer name things like that after their speed, because no one would create a allegro vivace at 40 bpm.

  • Truly God in action!!! Thank you!

  • beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fantastique!!!!!

  • Maisky's cello is truly amazing! I mean the acoustic makes it sound a little unreal but still this is one of the best cello in the world for sure.

  • Bach ! my favorite !

  • This is my favorite piece of music that bach ever wrote. Phenominal

  • this guy plays and looks like jesus...he's burnig..

  • Well Jesus was a jew too! ;)

  • Es el movimiento mas dificil de la suite!
