This is one of my favorite movie scenes of all time. It's surreal, vivid, dark, disturbing, and haunting...but every time I watch it, no matter how entranced by it I get, I ALWAYS burst out laughing at the car derping out at 1:47.

During this scene is ALL of what tetsuo is seeing an illusion or are those espers actually moving some toys around the room too? in a leter scene they are moving toys around but tetsuo breaks them. Plus if the kids and toys were all an illusion how could they freak out seeing his blood? i dunno im overthinking this :D

I prefer the Japanese version and English subs. I think the Japanese actor for Tetsuo captured his insanity much better than the English dub. You can feel and hear his voice change throughout the movie. When the English version off Tetsuo sounded relatively sane throughout.. Then again i seen this movie almost 20 years ago. I cant quite remember... Fuck it im gonna watch it now :D

Normally I would agree on the concept of avoiding dubs since most suck, but this movie is one of the few that gets it right, especially the older one. If you don't agree then I have every right to assume that A: You haven't watched the film in Japanese and have been exposed to its rather bland voice acting or B: you are a weaboo. Probably both.

@MDthornton83 well this nightmare happened when I was around 7 or 8 so it was way before I saw this, my nightmare took place in a day care center at night and it didn't make an eerie chant or milk blood like the ones in this video did. and the mutant dog made out of socks wasn't really even a stuffed animal, it just looked like a mutant, floppy eared, button eyed, sock puppet from hell, lol. I don't know, I forgot all about the dream but when I watched this it reminded me of it right away.

Even if the monster wasn't made out of toys or utter a creepy chant, I bet something like that appearing in a nightmare has got to be one of the most haunting experiences. Crazy stuff. I saw the whole film Akira back when I was 13. And this was several years after its release in Japan. And I had nightmares from this scene.

Best scene in the whole movie IMO. I just dig the way he lashes out instictually and telekinetically and the gore dripping whole body parts from the walls and ceiling - so realistic. That's the way it would be too - just raw unfocused until you learned to focus it.

Wish I could get the original US dub on DVD tho [My old VHS from the late 80's is soooo worn out]. :/

Well, he is an oppress teenager who's been bullied that's why he's unstable. He lashes out at the world that oppress him and wants revenge. Yeah, I get what you mean though if you start seeing freaky giant stuff animals and toy cars trying to harm you. I was around 6 or 7 when I watched this with my mom and my sister who was like 5 I think...I don't remember but I saw this part with the huge teddy bear and the milk and weird stuff I got so freaked out. and then my older sister told me she saw a part with a creepy lunch lady who turned into like a blob of food or something and I got even more freaked out. In the end we made our dad throw the movie away. Now I wish we kept it so we could watch it now that we're older :P
