I have aslo though of using wood to make a mold, harder woods like Maple,Oak etc.
Also the though of using Wet Sand in a Bucket and taking a sinker and pushing it in the sand,(making a copy) if you will, may work as well. What Kind Of Wire do you use to hold the Line?
@omt07 Do you have a shooting range anywhere close ? 22. cal bullets are mostly lead. Ask if u can have them (after they have crashed into the bullet catcher thingy). Normally a win win situation, because we have to pay for delivering the lead to recycling, at least here in Norway, always nice if someone takes it of our hands. Hope that helps..
hello i have a question:D i never melt lead and i want to buy some leads and make weights for a weight vest and my question is if 1 kg fits in this sizes : shape is rectangular and the sizes are this: length: 11 cm, width: 5cm and thickness 2cm. please if you can answer me!
@illusionist0505 Make a wood mold with the bottom of the mold narrower than the top like MZ's mold in "MAKING A SPIDER WEIGHT BY MANUEL Z" or you could buy an ingot mold like MZ's "SEACO" mold that makes 1 lb bars.
Potato can be a great mold. You can even cut it in half and work on both halves to make a shape and then put it back together and secure it with wires. Make sure you carve a little canal in one of the half so you pour the lead.
you are the man! i do alot of surfcasting/rock fishing in New Zealand and i have access to alot of lead flashings from old roofs. (have been a roofer in the past) so ima put 2 and 2 together and start making my own sinkers! great video :)
Drill a tapered hole (Point down) about 1/4" shorter than a long shank trebel hook. then drill another hole in the center on the bottom just big enough to bury the hoks eye then pour your lead into the hole making your snag hook.
I'll add a link to a picture in the side bar comments!
i make my own sinkers also. i also use a torch to speed up the melting process. never thought of the other "homemade" molds, but i have a few i bought.

ok i went and got a 10 gallon bucket full of the lead so do i have to clean the lead before melting or just throw it in there
07671978 2 years ago
you can buy flux that will bring all the impurities out of the lead when u melt it , just skim it off the top and your ready to pour

I want you to put a fan in the window and run it when you melt lead - that stuff is poison and I want you to stick around!!!
