This song is about the death of his son, I think he's talking about how he himself did drugs, and drank and did allot of bad things, And how his son was so young and pure, and eric feels like he isn't good enough to see his son in heaven,, But i believe Eric will see his son again, :)
eric clapton wrote this song several years after his 3 years old son fell from the 57th story of there appartment building some how trough a window break or a blacony (not sure) this song is the first he made after this terrible accident and for this was a form of therapy so who ever dare's to say this song is gay should drop himself from a 57th story of an appartment building and then think again if this song is gay.
well it makes me change the channel immediately. If not it would make me want to shoot myself in the head. Such a terrible song. A he is not god far from it. He is not even in the top 20 guitar players in my book. JMHO

This song is about his father - he was really missed him growing up. Eric Clapton was my son s inspiration growing up he is 17 a big guitar fan and went to one of Erics concerts in Germany calling me constantly on his mobile to say 'mum listen he is plyaing ........'
20 marca 1991 czteroletni syn Claptona Conor wypadł z okna z 53. piętra nowojorskiego apartamentu matki chłopca Lory Del Santo. Swój głęboki smutek Clapton wyraził w utworze "Tears In Heaven". Piosenka znalazła się później na ścieżce dźwiękowej do filmu "Rush".

so true, now mtv is all about game shows...and when it does in fact play music its all about this nigger bullshit, hip hop influence plaguing our minds and youth
umm, the nigger comment was not necessary. i hate a lot of the pop garbage that passes for music today but hip-hop is not the only reason why the mindset of certain youth is a particular way. that's just one of many factors and in some cases, what you'll find is that it's not even the most significant one.
i could go on but i'd rather not take away from the video and song.
ya but children should ask about sex when it comes to their mind but someone shouldn't teach then whenever he wants(the person that is telling the child)
Why? You tell them "this is the cow" before it comes to their mind. Sex and things about it is important factor of human determination. Children need to discover the world.
why dont u shut up!, u now this song can be heard by a little child, and he dosent know wats that (they now how to read), dont u have a little cousin or brother?i think ud love to show him ur comment!
his son was excited that he was back from tour and waved to him out of the window of the flats but fell out before eric got to the floor his son was on.
it's awful and this song is heart wrenchin and amazin.
what happened was, and i read straight out of erics autobiogrophy, that eric took his son Conor to a fair the previous night, and was going to take him to the circus the next day. on his way over to pick him up, Conors mother called him and was franticaly screaming that Conor was dead... he fell out while playing hide and seek, and the window was open because they had a guy come in to clean it.
Yes this song is for his late son...On 20 March 1991 at 11:00 a.m., Conor(Clapton's son), who was four years of age, died when he fell from the 53rd-story window of his mother's friend's New York City apartment, landing on the roof of an adjacent four-story building. Clapton's grief was expressed in the song "Tears in Heaven".. I really love this song.. It cheers me up when I listen to it or play it after a hard day... This is one of rare songs that will last forever in people's heart :) u_u

I work at a small country hospital & learned today that a small boy who was regular pt here died last week after a brave battle with leukemia- rocking in his mother's arms in a hospice room. since i was 6 turning 7 i lost at lest 6 people and now i'm 14 going on 15 next month and this song makes me happy alittle and mostly sad because it mostly remindes me about those 6 people.
It just goes to show though Clapton may be a God on the guitar and through voice but we have all lost someone we love and he is human just like us in that fact.
His son was playing near the window in the high rise appartment it was open and the Nanny was distracted, he'd be 23 or 24 now, so beyond tragic

It just goes to show though Clapton may be a God on the guitar and through voice but we have all lost someone we love and he is human just like us in that fact.
