  • I'll forever lov Kris for this song but Johnny made this.

  • @1974Qball This is All Kris!

  • The way he got started is He landed a helicopter on Johnny Cash's lawn to get his attention. Johnny Cash was so impressed he invited him in and listened to Kris & the rest is history

  • @Virgil27ful He got a job sweeping floors at Columbia Studios in Nashville. There he met Johnny Cash, who initially accepted some of Kristofferson's songs but chose not to use them

  • @crazzzynut Interesting story but not exactly accurate. He rejected the songs from the janitor until Kristofferson landed a helicopter in Johnny's backyard during a "BBQ."

  • He is one of the greats

  • One of the greatest artist and mind that we have....

  • loved this

  • i dont know if you waste your time reading this dunmb shit. but if you do just like to thank you for turnin down west point. and writeing and singing such cool songs. ty

  • I read that his family disowned him for pursuing songwriting. He finished Army duty, declined a staff position at West Point & did whatever he had to do to find his way into music. Worked as a janitor & helicopter pilot.

  • 17 people didn't have that second beer for dessert.

  • still wrong

  • meant Silver Toguned Devil lol

  • love, love, love him..another favorite is Silver Tounged Devil, oh and also Loving Her Was Easier, oh and anything Kris sings!

  • What a clear picture of a person who is lost such graphic images of a life going on around that he has no part in,so sad and beautiful

  • So many great versions of this song out there... but if there ever is a "last time" this song is to be sung, *this* is the way it must be sung.

  • awsome version of a great, great song sung by a legend,,,

  • This is what YouTube is about..... Postin' the good stuff.

  • Take a song back to his essence. Mastership.

  • singing this song i think he misses waylon and johnny

  • I have loved this man and his songs for over fourty years - his songs have held me up when I;ve been down and helped me smile when life has been good.

Salted life down into rhyme.... Thanks Kriss xxx

  • @Tammywid me 2...seems we..he and i ..kinda lived the same life...dunno...

  • beautiful....

  • Reminds me of my dad. He liked a drink. I miss him so much. Dead 21 years and I still cry. Even more so when I.listen to songs like this R.I.P Brian Robert Horsley (Curly) ,,, thanks Kris. X

  • @rezavoiredogs

    peace....

  • kk legend

  • He also was a helicopter pilot, and he turned down a teaching position at Westpoint to pursue a music career in Nashville. his first gig was being a janitor at a record studio.

  • He actually landed a helicopter in Johnny Cash's back yard to present this song to him.

  • Great to see him on this clip from Irish TV, has always had a lot of fans over here

  • I love the way he sings this, so soft and slow makes you feel the pain in the words so much more

  • I work at okc state fair this was how I live that week drunk as hell

  • Who cares if he's an army ranger? He's a great musician! Enough said!

  • to je prostě nádhera :-) .....

  • There's something about a Sunday makes a body feel alone...especially when you are,

  • Comment removed

  • This is such a universal song...it could've been called 'waking up wasted on sunday morning when the rest of the decent world is off to wholesome pursuits while I lie here still hung over, reeking of smoke, sick from too much of everything not good for me.....and seeing a stranger here beside me makes it even worse!!' I'm so glad those days are far behind me and nobody could have nailed the feeling in a song like Kris did!

  • guitar sounds a little out ...still a sweet song....thank you meckoat

  • @flesheatingvirus70 gitter sounds like only a Gibson is good enough

  • Thank you Kris for your many beautiful songs, you are the greatest ! ! !

  • The last great country son writer!

  • Love this song so much.

  • ...awesome song.. love it ;)))

  • I saw him in Göteborg,Sweden a few years ago great singing, Pontus

  • One of the last original country singers

  • The disappearing dreams of yesterday.

  • According to at least two websites, KK served in West Germany but never went to Vietnam.

Regardless, to achieve the rank of Captain and graduate from Ranger School, he most certainly earned several medals. Active duty is not the only way to earn medals.

  • I remember when Johnny Cash had his TV show and they didn'r want him to say the word stoned, but he said it anyway.

  • smells like a vampire wiped his a55 with it....

  • Thank you Meckoat, old enough to feel its message and nobody does it better than Chris.

  • This is the guy from blade right?

  • You have to live this befor you understanded it.I did.

  • Truly amazing song, I'm in a very dark place right now, and songs like this remind me I'm not the only one.

  • Chris is a genius. Rhodes scholar. Brillant!!! We love you Chris

  • I always knew Kris was extraordinary .

Imagine ,getting up ,comming down ,going out .

Sunday morning i'd be lucky to find my bum with both hand's .

  • Yea...Chris is the man

  • I've Loved Kris for the past 45 years, & that has never changed. I've always loved "On a Sunday Morning Sidewalk" for just the same amount of time. He's Blessed.

  • He was an Army Ranger not trooper. and he was a three sport star in college a Rhodes Scholar and hes been in alot of movies! He has lived an amazing life

  • @razorskiss58 A very accomplished man that never strayed from his principals. To most he is just the old man from the movie Blade.

  • @razorskiss58 And also Chief Hanlon, a ranger in the Ncr army. I love this guy.

  • @razorskiss58 You dick-lick, Army Rangers are Troopers! You must be a Navy, uhm, man. He can't sing a lick, can't act a lick, but he can write one hell of a song.

  • Mighty mighty Kris

  • God knows I've had many mornings like this and, while I've taken to the 12 steps, some days, like today, I just feel like this. Thanks Kris, for speaking my mind.

  • the words of this song is so exact

  • This has to be the best ever version, the man has it!!!

  • @RaidyK1

    AMEN !!!

  • Awesome song and singer.. love this.. he is sooo good .....

  • He was also a Rhodes Scholar.and a very talented song writer. Smart and talented man!

  • @LynneBratton I believe He's a ROADS Scholar Too!!

  • cant believe 12 people dislike this...a man singing from his soul and you can feel the lyrics. just goes to show you cant please everyone and that people are retards

  • @chrism5james yeah he loved Janis Joplin

  • Kris takes us back to somethin' that we'd lost somehow somewhere along the way... like disappearing dreams of yesterday.

  • amazing.......... i wish i could be stuck in a time when this music was being made. Sadness creeps over me when I hear todays attempt at music. sigh

  • every time he sings this song. he thinks of his friend johnny cash and it busts him up, keep singin it brother we love it. thank you

  • OUT-STANDING. I have heard many different versions of this song, I like Bobby Bare's and Johnny Cash's versions but this is without a doubt the way the song should be sung.

  • The Man

  • My God I love this, he is truly a treasure.Thank you so much Kris

  • It's Blues, it's Soul, it's filled with life and life turned upside down, inside out. It's much of Kris' life. How 'bout just try to interject something that isn't obnoxiously disrespectful, or maybe that's just what YouTube is all about. Go find the song he sang about Gandhi, Lincoln, JFK, see if American or country or otherwise has anything to do with the freakin' message. Always gonna' be a William Bonnie, better known as Bill the Kid, and there will always be a Joey Steele, but few Kris K's.

  • happy birthday kris. you are the most under-rated artist i know.

  • Happy Bithday Mr. KrIs ... have always loved your words !!!! <3

  • 11 people are already fucking dead.

  • I'm living the pain he's singing.Love ya,Kris

  • As said by many wise men country is the blues for the white folk

  • This is what you call the blues.

  • @curleyteeth rlly? This is what you call an ignorant comment. Thumbs down if you think this person is a noob. Kris plays country, this is what you call country my lad.

  • @thelizardking887 I know it is country but the lyrics are about unhappiness so it is the blues. They are connected aren,t they?.Idon,t know what a noob is by the way but My initial vibes are that it isn,t probably very complimentary and I guess you are an American so it is probably par for the course.

  • @curleyteeth No arguing with you curlysue, you can't teach some people I guess. Oh, and you can stay mad n00b. U mad and I think u jelly.

  • Back in 1972, when I was 17 years old, I first heard Kris Kristofferson sing, and I fell in love with his voice and his lyrics. The only other artist who has touched me in quite the same way, has been kd lang. Kris - I salute you. You are absolutely brilliant, and I am so grateful that you came into my life when you did.

  • He sings about himselve. He is so great. Best songwriter ever.

  • wishing lord that I was stoned. I grew up with Kris, through Johnny and Janis and willie, Kris knew how to express feelings,

  • @jbcook1000: You are dead on. Yeeears ago, I was telling people Kris is a poet, and one after my own heart. Musician he is, but he is one of my favorite poets. What he does with language in a song like this is outright hymnal. He will be playing in my vicinity in a few days. I won't make it, but I'll be thinking of him.

  • @jazzbluesshaman my wife and I saw his show with Merle Haggard last year, it was one of the greatest shows I've been to. We also saw him at the Bridge School Benefit last fall. His voice is not even as strong as it was whenever they made this video, he is getting pretty old. But it's great to be in his musical presence so to speak, and Merle puts on a really incredible show.

  • Kris wrote the prettiest, most purposeful words of the 20th century ! One of his early influences, William Blake would be proud of him ! I know Kris would not admit it, but he is a poet ! God Bless Kris

  • My Morning, xxx

  • @floridajeet I think I know already, but - what war(s)?

    Seriously, I don't know.

  • @floridajeet I hear he's also been President of the USA, and is soon to depose Kofi from the President of the United Nations. Then he's only one step from King of the World!

  • @diamondjimlegend

what a worthless waste of skin you must be. put your "suck me" energy in the bank and try moving out of that van down by the river.

  • @floridajeet Kristofferson was also a Rhodes Scholar, although according the Kristofferson mythology he told Oxford to stuff it!

  • @floridajeet And an actor

  • @floridajeet

He's also an actor, he was in the blade trilogy

  • @floridajeet

    ... and a Rhodes scholar

  • @floridajeet and before all of that...a Rhodes Scholar! Amazing accomplishments!!!!

  • @floridajeet Not sure which ones he'd have because he never SAW Combat. I don't think he even left the states. But that's fine with me.

  • @floridajeet He also went to Sanford as a writer..he talked about it in one the bio's they did on him.

  • @daylanrayne sorry i meant oxford

  • I'd lay in HIS bed any ole DAY! Keep on PLAYIN!!!

  • Rip out my heart Kris. I turned my life around. Thank you.

  • there's something in the Sunday makes your body feel alone

    Kris, your amazing

  • noooo he's not 74 wowww he's still brilliant go kris go xxx

  • I agree with all the others who are celebrating his brilliance as a songwriter. For me, he's got it all -- heart, talent, humanity, creativity, and as much sex appeal as I can stand, even at his old age (and mine). Along with so many other wonderful talents, he's helped make the world a better place.

  • great one .... A small reminder that there is a thin line between being sober and being a drunk

  • hard man, gentleman

  • Good friends...Lambs rum...and Kris.....PRICELESS

A dream of mine to see Kris Live in concert.

  • good morning ...

  • This one of the GREATEST songs!

  • I am digging the slower version, really conveys the songs agony.

  • I love this man, such a brilliant musician, his voice is so good, I totally agree, he's one of the greatest song writers to walk this earth.

  • On the Sunday morning sidewalk,

wishing, Lord, that I was stoned.

'Cos there's something in a Sunday,

    makes a body feel alone.

  • Great song, one of my favorites. I think most of us have been on that Sunday morning sidewalk a time or two.

  • @brightchance1 Was there today! Walked to the pub to catch the Spurs-Ud game.Very icy sidewalk.0-0but a good game nonetheless.

  • And it took me back to somethin',

That I'd lost somehow, somewhere along the way.

    Oh yeah..

  • Great sentimental song. He desperately needed to tune the 4th string, though. Way flat, but he pulled it off even so. Sometimes a slightly flat string adds a bit of realism to the tune, especially after listening to modern recordings that are digitally made perfect before release. It seems he has not gotten the respect he has earned; 14 year old punks sometimes get more glory these days.

  • Thank You Kris, i bouhgt you big song book 34 yrs ago and learned to play that song and many others , good memories and WHY ME LORD is my favorite, sing it at church some times...........there is something bout a Sunday that makes a body feel alone - that is the soul saying, ask JESUS to come in my heart and believe.....JESUS will fill you up

  • This is pure beauty.... Thank you Sir, Kris/.....

  • Pure beauty, and wisdom....... holy holy holy...

  • thumbs up if you watched this on a come down...

  • It does not get more honest than this!

  • Det blir inte ärligare än såhär!

  • I'm coming down from speed and it's sunday morning so this sounds so good to me right now. dont do this much.

  • @Dleigh975 i feel you man speed makes me feel so sick when coming down but i dont do it anymore i only smoke reefer

  • true and greatest song writer and singer.....

  • One of the best song writers there have ever been

  • This song is posted on Facebook page called "Golden Tunes - Sound of Oldies", so if you have fb account and some time, check it, i guess you will like it :) Page is for everyone who like like warm cozy sound of evergreen music.

  • regina spegtor

  • @Mr.OutlawCountry Coe was born in 1939 and was a kid in the 50's.

  • the nine people that disliked the video are gay

  • Kris wrote it.

  • Nope, Kris wrote it. Coe wrote some great stuff. But Kris wrote Sunday Morning Coming Down. (Look at his first album.)

  • AND FOR THE LAST TIME PEOPLE, DAVID ALLAN COE WROTE THIS SONG! STOP SAYING JOHNNY CASH WROTE IT, OR KRIS KRISTOFFERSON WROTE IT. EVERYONE THINKS KRIS WROTE IT, BUT DAVID ALLAN COE WROTE IT FOR JOHNNY CASH IN THE 1950S ALONG WITH MANY OTHER SONGS. KRIS AND DAVID WERE FRIENDS AT THE TIME, BUT PLEASE GIVE CREDIT TO THE MAN WHO WROTE IT

  • @MrOutlawCountry 4 of the same comments on one video! Wow.

  • @SuperOzzilla Hey you guys I WROTE THIS SONG. NOW THAT'S SETTLED. LOL LOL LOL.

  • @MrOutlawCountry if it is as you say and Coe wrote the song why does Cash himself credit Kris with writing it and by the way I have the original vinyl copy of the album, and it does not mention Coe as a writer or co writer of this song and you can bet if Coe wrote the song he would be suing the shit out of Kristofferson for stealing his tune

  • @MrOutlawCountry YOU ARE AN IDIOT

  • I've always liked Johnny Cash's version, but this bare-bones take by the original is amazing. All the emotion he packs into simple lyrics and gentle guitar strumming are more forceful than any of today's overproduced lightweights!

  • greatest song ever wrote..sang by...the man who gave it to us..love ya Kris

  • @RWOODWARD64 I hate to break it to you, but David Allan Coe wrote this song for Johnny Cash in the 1950s.

  • I love this version, same as the Johnny Cash original, but this version is very very good
