doesn't the string show in full daylight? so up-close???

@teknought - we've tried different colored strings and surprisingly black works better than silver/grey/white. We don't use transparent/invisible string because the point of the flow-wand isn't illusion, but about dancing and moving and rocking out with the wand. We use teflon coated ice fishing line now, so it's smooth and very very strong. You can switch to Invisible thread, but it will break.

I have a semantics question...what do you call a levistick/flow-wand artist? levisticker? flow-wanderer? its been driving me nuts since I first discovered this form of artistic manipulation.

@acrylichaze - good question! I guess the same answer would apply to poi, staff or other props. People call themselves poi or staff "spinners" /"artists" /"manipulators"/ "dancers" ... I suppose what you call yourself depends on what you do with the wand and how you express yourself with it. look forward to seeing you flow/dance/manipulate ;)

@flowtoys I've never really thought about it that way. normally I think of myself as a manipulator of my props, a side effect of being more analytical than artistic. and as for me flowing, I was looking to make a rather sizable order to flowtoys for some proper performance gear so I can progress to a point were I can post a video and not feel like i'm a complete noob.

@neonluver55 Good luck with that. You have to weight them in just the right way and in the right places. It's too much work. A regular flowwand is only $25. Hardly a fortune, and it's totally worth it.

@themanoffewwords1 Have you seen Fine127 & MezzeFlame's flow wand videos yet? They take the string off the wand and replace it with one twice as long to do different tricks. I've not been able to find nylon string quite as thick - just Coats & Clark braided nylon thread (for upholstery and vinyl). You can carefully undo the knots on the original string to remove it, as I did.

The flow *light* wand has a really cool, tiny swivel between the finger loop and string, so it's easier to use.

@themanoffewwords1 - our flowwands are $25. the super bright light up ones are more expensive, but these are all handmade and great performance props. you can get firewands at trickconcepts (dot) com ... check out magician dancing canes for instructions on how to make dancing canes. it will not be a flow-wand as those are the canes as we make it, but you'll be able to make your own.

this totally answers my wishes to find a glow toy that really works with belly dance. while i love poi its harder to really let your body flow. with the flow wand everything is flowing and its so beautiful!

@IsanaAlraun Please get a flow wand and make a video of you making belly dance work with the wand. I've been trying to do it and not doing very well. After watching this video again, I realise that may be because Prisna's dancing involves a lot of foot and leg movement that is, as you know, very absent from a lot of belly dancing. Or at least it is from the style I've had training in, cabaret belly dancing. I think I'll be using my feet and legs more!

How does the string not burn off when it passes the flame?

It's kevlar string. Still you don't want to let it hang out over the flame for too long. And definitely watch that the string doesn't get any fuel when you are dipping!

how many flowlights and what rig setup would you lovely people at flowtoys recommend for a glow wand? I've got plenty of lights/parts... :)

we make them with 6 flowlights, but it can be done with 5 (more difficult, but possible). they are a real pain to make, but you can try. it would be pretty impossible to tell you how Sean makes it, because he creates his own jigs from scratch and there are several involved. you'll have to find a way to keep it all very stiff and if you have older lights without battery pull tabs, you'll need to install tabs, coz once the lights are fused, the batteries can't be "knocked" off easily. good luck!

Most of them have been sitting on our memory cards and hard drive for years and we finally got around to putting some of it together into a short vid. Not sure if we're going to be putting any of the full length ones online. It's a lot of older stuff too. Hope to put up some newer content soon, so you can link to those :)
