Another word of advice - People have adapted this as a nude hiking trail, it is also a boyscout trail - Don't be an ass hole and hike nude in this high-traffic area
A word to the wise. DO NOT place your head below the spring water. There is a parasite called N. Fowleri that has a 98% mortality rate. The Black Canyon is my playground. I hike down and clean it once a month. Please head this warning this parasite is very dangerous. It can live in water up to 113 degrees.
the big pool is non existent yes, and yes people trash the place, but there are still 2 good pools with caves and are much warmer than the big pool ever was.
Cool vid. only wish it is still that clean there. That large pool was still nice around '06 i believe, has been deteriorating since. Lots of people every weekend and none of them too bright. And yes naked people, lots of naked people.
The turnoff is in the same spot as the video shows. It is now a blacktop road that goes under the Hoover Dam Bypass being built.
The hot springs in your video were mostly destroyed by the large amounts of rain that washed down the canyon during the winter of 2005.
The rope at the large boulder is more substantial now, and there are 5 more ropes to make it to the river. When they are letting more water from the dam, getting to the river may be blocked.
PS: Your video was great! I read your full description after I posted my comment. The large pool has not been rebuilt. It has been replaced by two smaller pools. The upper pools are gone and much as dried up.
This is a great hike and even better as a night hike! Unfortunatly, I think the only way to get there now is via boat up from the river... If you go to the end and make a left at the river, you will find sauna cave and an area where boiling hot water randomly spurts out of the rock face. Great!
This is one of the most beautiful hot spring I have seen. It's quite a hike but if you are in good shape, you should have no problems. The pools are clean & well taken care of. Thanks to all who help keep the pools so clean. PLEASE remember if you hike it in, HIKE IT OUT. This is a must see. Enjoy!
SHHHH! You gave it away! Oh, well. That "roap" looked like it couldn't hold me. Rule number one in a desert: don't take unnecessary risks. Also, why would I ingest someone's discarded filthy plastic water when there is thousands of gallons of fresh water flowing by and a river right below? It was someone's TRASH that I hauled out. Rule number two, don't let garbage foul your gear.
