You good sir have the most amazing collection of records displaying wonderful examples of great music. I would love to play some of these records on my 23' victrola.
have you ever noticed that most of the partyers in these old dance footages are folks in their 20s and 30s? You hardly ever see teenagers at these things.
@birdandthe That's because a lot of the kids today are dancing bores. Some today are exceptional and catch onto whatever the latest modern dance is right away. But the average 21st century youngster can't dance for shit.
@BadfingerFan In the 1920s, thru the repeal of Prohibition, the birth certificates of everyone in America (age regardless) were worthless scrip whilst Trinken war verboten.
A nice juxtaposition of music against the visuals! From the ledger: HMV B5083, matrix Bb8502 take 1, recorded 4 June 1926, recorded at Hayes NOT as the label says, 'at the Savoy Hotel'. That statement referred to where the band was playing, not where HMV was recording them.
The "dance" never seems to die - the most popular it seems even 80+ years later it is remmbered by all I think....I don't think it the name at least will ever die......My mom won a tropy at l8 for the dance on he state of the old Paramont........both the trophy and she are long gone....but who knows? maybe --
@HarborGuy Seriously. Have you seen the new dance that's popular right now, The Shuffle? Tell me that's not just the great-grandbaby of The Charleston.
@HarborGuy No. It's like party-electro-ish. It's actually a pretty fun song/dance. Look up "Party Rock Anthem" by LMFAO. You might like it. Anyway, the dance is called "The Shuffle".
Savoy Hotel Orpheans, My fave Brit band! Seems slighty faster than the mp3 version I have, but I guess recording speeds were all over the place those days. Those girls sure know how to have a good time!
Great stuff.

YES this is HOT. Great tune. I love Charleston and the period it was played in. Wish I could take a look in person :-)
