Of all the Jesus movies, Jesus of Nazareth is the most memorable because of Robert Powell. Franco Zeffirelli made truly classic movies, and Jesus of Nazareth, to me, was one of his best. The casting of this movie was exceptional; think of all the memorable actors you remember from this movie! I wish I knew the story behind Robert Powell being cast for the lead role. His eyes are signature ones to be sure, but everything he did throughout the movie made it truly exceptional. Bravo, Robert!!!

Mr. Powell's portrayal as Jesus can't ever be touched and never be touched. The Vatican should just pronounce it the King of the Jesus Movies. Also, most people forget that when this was NBC, it eclipsed the Beatles on Ed Sullivan as the all time rating only to be quickly taken out by Roots.

I wish he would do an audience interview about that movie. I know we're wrong to hold an actor to such high regard, but I still find Mr. Powell rather "holy." I know that's wrong.

Robert really put the emotion into his charector as Jesus, its almost like he put himself in Jesus' shoes and try to feel what Jesus felt while he was on the earth. I don't know if Robert Powell knows Jesus as his personal saviour or not, but I'll say this, God must have put a special annoiting on Robert to help bring out the message of His Son's salvation and love for all of us. There are a lot Jesus films but this one is the best! I like to see on Blue Ray one day!

@beatleman69 I totally agree with you on this one! Out of all the Jesus movies I have seen during my lifetime so far, none of them even comes close to "Jesus of Nazareth". The man who directed this movie did a great job casting Robert Powell as Jesus. He was great!

I absolutely agree that Robert Powell is a very talented and awesome actor! In my opinion I totally believe that he was and always will be the best person to play Jesus Christ in Jesus of Nazareth. To me he practically looks like Jesus himself. He definitely seems to be an actor who knows what he is doing and can get into character with such ease and experience. I wrote him a fan letter and I am going to mail it today, hopefully I can get a response. That would be so cool!
